AM I A HARDCORE CRPG GAMER NOW!!??

Wow what an RPG...and I do not like it :(

My review:

This game for the most part is......boring and unimmersive.

The lack of music and the dull 8-bit graphics really does not help, and yeah there is that xu4 mod that makes it 16-bit and has music, but you all what happened the last time I attempted to install that mod :P

Fighting most enemies are easy, until I faced the Balrons and Tree creatures that spams sleep spells that fucks with me everytime I encountered, it is even more annoying if I have the volume on because I have to hear "eeeeeee" noise when they cast the spell.

Do I have to mention the progression systems, This is by far the most bullshit way to level up my stats:

http://ultima.wikia.com/wiki/Magic_Orbs

In order to level up my stats, I have to touch these orbs in the dungeons, but they deal massive damage as a result, what a bitch, this game punishes me for leveling up my stats :(

And lets not forget my favorite part, grinding virtues, I said it before and I will say it again, that begger in the game makes me never want to give anything to beggers in real life.

How do you find enjoyment in typing "Give", "1", and press ENTER 1000 times just to makes out my compassion virtue.

Last but not least RPG elements are primitive, here I can fight dragons and demons and still kill them at say level 3 with a normal sword :P

Oh and the wind system is programed against me, its like its predicting where do I want to go when I sail, I go north, the wind blows north slowing me down.

If there is one thing I like about the game its the original story and the sandboxy feel of the game, I liked battling enemies on my ship, because it reminds me of Pirates of the Carribean.

Basically my problems with this game stems from one obvious fact: This game is too ancient. After playing more modern RPGs its hard to go back.

I am really sorry for not liking this game as much as I should, oh well lets hope Ultima 5 is better.

Yes, thou art. I hereby dub the Sir Knight of Hardcore Gaming!

(and yes, Ultima 5 was a big improvement over Ultima 4 - but still you might want to get the Lazarus Mod for Dungeon Siege, if you have that game. Lazarus is a faithful remake of Ultima 5 with much better graphics)
Thought you had given up on it.
That takes dedication the likes of which I will never possess. Congrats. :D

Well, congratulations on powering through a game you didn't like. A question remains: why?
Finish the rest of them too, then do Darklands, and after that you are an official member of the PC Master Race.

To see this whole series though, and the next game I will play is Ultima 5 which everybody says is WAAAY better than Ultima 4.

Also I dedicating 2013 to beating classic CRPGs, I already beaten Diablo 1 and 2, so now I decided to do Ultima.

It's rather old by now as well. So it should be available cheap somewhere. Just check Amazon or Ebay or some digital platforms for good deals. Or you might get lucky in some retail store that still has it. Just make sure it's Dungeon Siege 1 (two and three won't work for the mod).

The mod itself can be downloaded here: http://www.u5lazarus.com/Downloads.php
i never played Ultima, but congratulations.

This is only my opinion and in the grand scheme of things is worth less than a box full of dead rats at a tampon factory, but as someone who actually completed Dungeon Siege I have to confess I thought it was WAY too long and stopped being exciting or fun five or so hours in.

Yes, that's true. I also never finished Dungeon Siege. I just got it for Lazarus and boy was that worth it. The mod is WAY better than the base game.

Ah, i see. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. While i admire your dedication, i personally draw the line on playing any particular game when i don't find it fun anymore. Of course, now that you have properly finished the game you can not only say that you didn't like it, but how much and why you found it so.
Which i guess is ... a good thing?

I guess that going through with your goal is definitely praiseworthy, but i can't but think that you should try to enjoy your free time as much as you can. (maybe despite all you said, you did manage to have fun, i hope?)

Of course, in the end, your time is yours alone, so don't think i'm trying to tell you what to do during it :p

Great. You already have found an option. - If you have a Steam account that is. But I would ask first in the forum there if the Steam version also works with non-Steam mods. Nowadays you never know what 'features' Steam&Co enforce.
