darthspudius: The Two Towers was the one I got through the fastest. Thought it was better then the third book.

Elmofongo: Can I ask did any of the Middle Earth books developed the Orc/Goblins as a whole race with thier own culture rather than just mindless mobs in service of the evil gods?
Check out the Tolkien wiki. Brilliant source of info.

Best I read the books before I spoil myself from the Tolkien wiki.

l0rdtr3k: ...Anyway,I'm halfway through the first book and it does start out slow but it picks up the pace and you read expecting the next chapter like and always alking what'll happen next.
Prepare for a long period of drought starting in book two and lasting to about book four. I found the first and the fifth book particularly good. If anything could be said about A song of Ice and Fire then that the author could write faster and less.

Alot of it isnt that bad for spoilers. They're quite good to have on hand for the books. Explains things in more detail.

I always prefer the Tolkien Wiki over Lord of the Rings wiki.

Tolkien wiki seems more for the books while LOTR Wiki is more for the movie audiance.

It wasn't meant to be berating, I wish he'd hurry up a bit as well. It's just always the first thing that pops up in my head. :P

l0rdtr3k: LotR can be a chore to read through especially the second book. But they are great books.
I was wishing for Frodo to be killed by that Shelob spider. I think the story would be better if Sam would take up the chore of carrying and destroying the ring. But noooo... He could not abandon his friend.

I was offered the first volume of A song of ice and fire, but I have not read it yet. I think Martin is more of my type of story teller. At least I would have no problem in killing the main character in a non-gratuitous way if I was writing a story.
