HELP! Choices are haaaaard!
I have been promised one game from my Steam wishlist for my not quite here birthday (sorry gog!)

The proviso is that I get something I won't shelve half way through, which I am wont to do. Some games hold me, but not all. Hennyoo, I have four sitting at the top of my list now, but I still can't narrow them down.

The choices are:
Farcry 4
Wolfenstein: The New Order
The Talos Principle

(removed) Styx: Master of Shadows

... in no specific order.

So if you were getting one of those, which would you most like to have, and if you can say why that would help heaps too

EDIT: I've taken out Styx. I love stealth games, and do want to play this one, but I think from the reviews I've read (many positive) that it is one that I will wait for on sale and get it myself

Only Far Cry I like is FC 2, never got into any of the others.
Wolfenstein is a laugh and cheap.
Styx, haven't heard anything good about it at all.
Talos, if you like moral conundrums and puzzles, then I guess this is a good game (I don't).

Wolfenstein: The New Order was a pretty good game, though if you want to play for a lot of hours(open world an all) I would go for Farcry 4.(err didn't play that one though but FC3 was (IMHO) awesome)
Far Cry 4 for most of the gameplay, preferably the Deluxe Edition and from the Ubi store. You are better with UPlay only, as the Steam version has both UPlay and Steam opened while you play.

Styx has a good story, Wolfenstein being actually a good addition to the Wolfenstein series.

Don't know anything about Talos, so i can't help with that.

If you want a Steam only game, grab one of the last three games from the list. I'd say Wolfenstein.

If you want FarCry 4 get it on UPlay, so you won't have to deal with TWO DRM clients. This would be my choice, as you get a lot of gaming hours from it.
Wolfenstein.

Don't trust in Ubi garbage. I mean, FarCry is a common FPS, and I am sure they recycle some stuff from any other Ubi game.

Wolfenstein on the other hand, have some personality it self and were developed for more time and better team than FarCry.

"something you won't shelve halfway through" as a condition... then I wouldn't go for Far Cry 4. You can finish Wolfenstein, but if you're supposed to do all the side activities in a Ubi open world game... good luck with that.

I'm just terrible at completing games without stopping for a while and playing something else. Worse still, I often find that I burn out about an hour before the end. There are numerous games I have played that I then shelved, in one case for three years, before taking out again, basically tripping over my shoelaces and finishing!

I would go with Wolfenstein: The New Order. I do not own it, but I have played it a little. I thought it was going to be a shit game, but man, was I wrong. It's an almost perfect hybrid of the good things of old school and new FPS (not perfect, because it is a bit linear, but very good), runs fairly well, looking nice even in low settings. The gunplay feels awesome and the cliché storyline is pretty nicely well done.
About the other games, my priority would be The Talos Principle. I played a little of the demo and liked it. It's a very close second. You might consider choosing this as Wolfenstein is older and more likely, it will be heavily discounted in near sales.
Styx looks nice, but I would wait a little, since it's the cheapest and gets modest sales often.
About FC4, I have not tested it, but would be the last. Not saying that it's a bad game, but I find it too similar to FC3 to justify both the high pricetag and uPlay. I would wait for a discounted "GOTY".

tl;dr
Wolfenstein > Talos >> Styx >>>> FC4

I used to force myself to finish every game I started, but I don't care as much anymore. I do try to finish them, but if I don't for whatever reason, it's no big deal. I've also finished games years after I first played them, several times. That said, it's not me we're talking about, it's you and the requirements put on you for this one gift. The risk of burning out while doing sidequests in Far Cry is huge. If you want a shooter you can complete, Wolfenstein is a lot more focused.
BTW, owing to living in Switzerland, I get an odd warning on Wolfenstein. See the pic attached (hope I did that right).

First it tells me I can't get the game in English and it will be a censored German version.
Then it tells me I would get two copies, one regular and one German. I presume the second notice supersedes the first, but if so then why show me the first warning at all? The joys of living in the European island of Switzerland I suppose. Where all Steam sales are in Euro too, the bastages.

Still, at current rating, it looks like Wolfenstein is winning, followed distantly by Talos.

Far Cry looks like fun, but I guarantee I would only get gifted a copy through Steam, so I'll have to get that one myself some time in the future through UPlay directly.

Styx, as I have said in my updated OP, will be a personal purchase sometime down the line when on sale.

However, if others want to throw their voices in I'd be happy to hear them!

Well, that sucks. Regional restrictions are bad. You should find a way to circumvent them or choose another game. Without the censorship I would choose Wolfenstein. But with the censorship go for something else.

That's the thing. I think there are no regional restrictions for me. In fact I think Steam is going to give me access to both the uncensored and the censored versions of the game, if I decide that's the one I want. It's just not very clear.

Also, my dad, who has given me this puzzle, lives in the US, so he will be buying from over there. So far we can still make purchases for each other across the Atlantic.

To be completely honest, and somewhat confusing, I couldn't really care less if there were Nazi's in Wolfenstein. The game looks like great fun, and they give it context, but I could play it with different names. But I would like it in English. I've played a couple of games in German, and my command is not good enough to get the same level of enjoyment out of it.

I'd choose The Talos Principle by sole virtue of it not being a shit console shooter.

It looks as if Steam has two warnings---it throws up one if you're marked as being located in a German-speaking country (the "language not supported" bit, and because of the German censorship rules). You got the second because Steam has realized that you're in multilingual Switzerland, and therefore you get both the version with all the Nazi stuff intact (but no German language), and the edited German version. I can't fault Steam here, they're actually trying to give you the best range of options.

That's how I'm taking it. Just confusing being in two parts. They could have just had the second box and dropped the first one since it was overridden.

Hmm. Still don't know.

Twitter is saying Far Cry, but TBH there, the accounts answering have been named from the games themselves.
