Crosmando: Not sure if this will get me in trouble or not...
It will. Please remove it. I'm not kidding.
Blimey - proper necro'd....

I'll have a look at some point and see if i can dig something out...
Hello. I had Tie Fighter working previously on my Windows 7 computer. I recently tried to start it up again and the intro video and the cockpit during flight was constantly flashing. The only possible fix I could find was to disable SLI on Nvidia cards. I only have one GPU and see no SLI option in my Nvidia control panel. Any ideas?

Robbeasy: I've posted this once, but as someone pointed out, it looked like a 'I want this on GoG' thread and has been largely ignored, so I'm gonna try again. Yes, I know these games aren't available here, but it seems a great place for advice on getting older games working, no?

If the first thread was ignored because no-one was interested, feel free to ignore this one as well...;o)

So - the games...

Specifically the Win95 versions off the Collectors CD, that came out with x-wing v tie-fighter.

OK - first problem - damn things wont even install. Go to http://www.markusegger.at/Software/Games.aspx and get the relevant files, following instructions from that fine gentleman.

You WILL need the original CD's - this isn't a pirates way to get these games!

You should now have a working version of X-wing or Tie Fighter? Good. Want the 3D acceleration working? Excellent. Grab this - http://www.lucasfiles.com/index.php?action=file&id=653 - an official file that should make it work with newer cards (mileage may vary on this bit).

Theres also a .bat file made by Reimer to help with graphical issues - see http://www.xwaupgrade.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9625&start=100 for info. It was originally made for XWA, but has stuff for XWing and Tie Fighter as well.

Still got crazy kaleidoscope colours? Turn off explorer before you start the game (create a .bat file - have a look in the Interstate 76 forums if you're having trouble doing this)

And Voila - a nice working X-Wing game. Sadly I still cant get the 3d Acceleration going in Tie Fighter, but the game is still good in software mode....

All thanks and much Kudos to Marcus Egger for the new installer, Reimer for the .bat file - now I am a happy happy man.....

Disclaimer*** This worked for me - I cant guarantee it will work for everyone, but you can but try, right??

Now, if only we could get Lucasarts to talk to GoG........
Now if only you can do the samething for X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, X-Wing Alliance, and Dark Forces 2

Speaking of which I wonder why even Steam includes the Dark Forces games but not the X-wing games
I know how to fix the color problem if anyone needs help with that.

Funny you should say that - here's info on getting X-wing Alliance working.....and for anyone with concerns, it DOES involve you owning a copy of the game...

X-wing Alliance doesn't recognize modern systems - again, you need an installer tool - get it here.

OK - now you need to create a 'disc' with the new installer - you WILL need a couple of tools for this
iso creator
daemon Tools Lite

Get your X Wing Alliance disc one and copy it to your hard drive - into a folder called XWA_DISC_1. Now - use your installation tool you downloaded and select the folder you put on your hard drive. If you don't get a message about overwriting files, you're doing it wrong (you should say yes to overwriting in this case).

OK - now you have a copy of the game with a new installer - this needs burning and mounting. i use IsoCreator to create the ISO, the Daemon tools to mount the ISO image as a disc. MAKE SURE you name the iso you create as XWA_DISK__1 (note the double underscore!).

Once this image is mounted , navigate to the setup.exe in the folder, and double click to start installation.

Et Voila - XWing Alliance on your latest machines. Make sure you use the XWINGALLIANCE.EXE to run the game instead of the default ALLIANCE.EXE - that one wont work!!

other useful files -
Font Fix
2.02 Patch

You'll need these if you want to do the next bit - which is get your old XWING missions working in XWING ALLIANCE!!!

First up - Ultimate Craft Pack - this awesome upgrade of flight models by darksaber is just essential. Follow the info on the linked page to install.

If you want to enjoy your Souped up game of XWing Alliance, stop here. The next step will overwrite some files so you cant play the main game....

OK - still here? You want X Wing in your Alliance game? OK - go here, and download the two parts under the XWC3.1. This will add ALL the xwing missions to the battle Simulator on the flight deck of your Xwing Alliance game!! Again , follow the instructions, and enjoy!!

obviously - none of this is down to me, great kudos and thanks go to the creators of these wonderful mods - and
this PC Gamer article that first got me onto it....
I need help here. I have X-Wing Collector's CD-Rom.

I follow the steps.
-Copy cd-rom content to folder.
- run the msi installer patch for 64bit
-create ISO of CD
-install 3D acceleration patch
-mount ISO

But every time I select setup.exe I receive the following error message:
Error reading from file:
G:\XWINGCD\DEATHSTARTEXTURE.TEX. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

PS: I used Imgburn and Daemon Lite.
Here is a guide that I wrote 2 years ago but just updated this week with information on how to get these games working on a modern PC: www.savingcontent.com/2014/08/09/guide-play-x-wing-tie-fighter-series-on-windows-7-windows-8-windows-8-1-with- an-xbox-xb1-playstation-ps4-controller-flight-stick/
I'd love to play these games again, but unfortunately, every link in the original post is now broken :(

I think most of the information is now also here:

Haven't tried the links from there though...
I guess it's time to bump this thread, so the GOG compatiblity wizards get kickstarted :-) And GOG gets an edge over Steam (that doesn't have those games).
So how exactly do I get X-wing vs Tie fighter working on my Windows 8 computer?
