While I would
like to see Microsoft's games (Crimson Skies, Mechwarrior(?)), I'm a little afraid of it being one of their tactical maneuvers. They have pulled a lot of their "Embrace, Extend, Exterminate" stories in the past and I believe they would like to see DRM-less approaches fail and their own "Games for Windows Live" prosper.
I think in this case it would be difficult for them to do, other than offering crippled games or some sort of optional Games For Windows "enhancements" to entice folks - but that wouldn't be harmful.
Also, OMG, Mechwarrior 2:Mercenaries. Want. I think it's Microprose, iirc -- I used to multiboot with Win98 just because I couldn't get it to run in XP or Linux, and I loved it that much. Only mech game I've played where it actually feels like you're piloting a huge, lumbering mech . . . and I liked my custom midrange sniper mech build. :-)
