Probably not a good place to ask, as this appears to quickly be degenerating into a lot of code giveaways, but...

Have GOG considered adding an optional torrent component to their downloader? I understand that technically it might be quite hard to implement, but it may help smooth download times during sales etc, as the increased traffic would work for you.

Just a thought.

hmmm, great minds i suppose. Though I am advocating actually putting it in the downloader, just indiscriminately linking to a public torrent, no matter how trusted, provides too much risk to GOG, as they can't be in control of the file they're providing.

The humble bundle torrents aren't public as I recall. Not sure if the authentication is done when getting the torrent or when connecting to the tracker, but there are ways to use an authenticated torrent.

Not sure of GOG's stance on it, I personally wouldn't mind it though.

Indeed. We need to take away this misnormer torrent is attached to, people shouldn't just assume you're pirate only because you use the same downloading method. Besides, it's a brilliant set up as people who want to download and back up their games could easily keep the games in a torrent client and continue to seed, should help considerably during huge sales or popular releases. The only thing GOG has to do would make sure there're no legal issues and make sure an authentication system works.

I won, I won!

First I'd like to thank my parents who eventually stopped telling me to go play outside, then my firend, you know who you are, who'd invite us to his house to watch him play video games, GOG without whom this wouldn't be possible, the Dosbox web site where I first heard of GOG, the ROA developpers... what do you mean my time is over? it's a little sooner than I expected. I had this whole section on civic pride...
