ACE: so I'll have to download the GOG client to buy and download games that are available on steam.
Please do tell me why should I do that and how is that beneficial ?!!
avatar
Adzeth: There is no GOG client. If you want to see how it goes, go to your My Account and download some of the free games.
Ohk I'll probably download the games which arent there on steam, but then what about the ones which are there on steam ?!!

You are kinda missing my point - Why should I buy and download games here rather than steam itself ??!!!!

Sorry dude, but this is getting annoying. It doesn't take much time to figure out by yourself what GOG is about without asking so many weird questions. GOG has a lot of games that no other distributor has and all games that GOG has are DRM free and can be directly downloaded via browser.

Take it or leave it.

sad people around us !!
btw I have no intentions of trolling around. I did read about the site but i didnt get the point of buying steam games.

But now I see, the site's mainly for the old and classics available nowhere else.

a) DRM free - you are free to keep backups. No company can suddenly say "screw you, we're closing your account, say goodbye to your games"
b) Some of them include extras here which are missing from Steam.
Srsly, you don't need a client to run the games available here on GOG, the way you do with Steam. Mind you, I use a LOT of services including Steam but with GOG, all I need do is download the game and it is mine forever. Get it?
That is what DRM-free means.

Momo1991: Nope. They are DRM-free. I know you must be saying, WHAAA? But it's true, ALL true!

1. There is no client, purchasing and downloading is done entirely through the website. There is an entirely optional downloader, if you want to go that route, but you don't need to.
2. Steam is DRM. Every game you buy from them is basically a rental and your ability to continue using those games is entirely under their control. GOG does not have DRM. You buy a game from them, it is yours to use unrestricted forever... literally.
3. There are many games here that are not available at all on Steam, plus all of GOG's games come with additional extras like soundtracks, concept art books, behind the scenes videos, wallpapers, avatars, etc that Steam does not offer at all or in some rare cases, offers at additional cost.

Hmm, so I can buy a game and then literally go and sell it in the market ?!

Nice !!
