jepsen1977: Vampire TMB: I have tried 3 times and I just can't get into it.
That's the saddest thing I've ever heard.
Rogue Galaxy. It got good reviews, and the developers have made some decent games, but there were just too many furries and cliches!

F4LL0UT: Evil Genius, I guess. It should be like the perfect game for me. It has a setting and style I love, is largely inspired by some of my all-time favourite games and it was critically acclaimed. Still, I just can't get into it. Whenever I try it several hours in I just don't feel like playing it anymore. It's the same in case of my brother - he loves the style and the premise of the gameplay but he also quit very soon after trying it.
Have you tried Dungeon Keeper 2? I love Evil Genius and was looking at that
For me that would be the Starcraft series. I really like RTS but it just won't work.

As a Fallout fan I wanted to love Arcanum, but it did not appeal to me . Later I tried again and did end up loving it!

I'm actually playing it right now (and already played it back in the day). I like it but not nearly as much as the original game. They tweaked the gameplay a lot in the sequel but I just can't stand the silly and colorful style.

Btw, if you are looking for other games in the same vein you may want to check out Startopia and Majesty. Startopia was actually developed by people who had previously worked on Dungeon Keeper.

Oh yeah, and in case I wasn't clear: Dungeon Keeper 2 indeed shares many similarities with Evil Genius so if you like the latter you may find a lot of joy in Dungeon Keeper 2 but DK is more simplistic than Evil Genius as far as I can tell. If it's the building and managing of facilities inhabited by autonomous characters that you're looking for and don't need combat you may also wanna check out Theme Hospital if you haven't already. It was also developed by Bullfrog and Dungeon Keeper and its clones are all clearly inspired by it. I'm normally not a big fan of these kinds of management games but Theme Hospital has all the stuff that I love about Dungeon Keeper, Startopia, Majesty and Evil Genius.

Mainly modern games, I am much more critical of those than of older ones:

Skyrim ... a disappointingly lackluster and dry Fantasy-world
Dark Souls ... the storyline was too thin, bad camera angles, glitchy combat, too much pointless running
Far Cry 3 ... made me realize that I prefer more linear FPS
Saint's Row the Third ... after a while it became too childish to enjoy
Diablo 3 ... I enjoyed the previous games but this felt more like an MMO the more I played of it
Dragon Age Origins .... I expected something more unique and adventurous from the game

All of these games had something about them that I really liked and interested me, hence me buying them, but eventually the negative parts took over and the whole experience just faded into nothing.

Indeed. I understand that the kids who didn't have any experience with the formula before Skyrim love the game but honest to God, I don't understand how so many veteran RPG players can be thrilled by this game. I can live with the consolified interface, I can even live with the STILL incredibly dead and sterile world which has become TES' trademark but a setting and world this bland and boring kept me from enjoying the game at all. Neither did I care about any of the events or characters nor did I enjoy exploring the world. Ergo Skyrim had practically nothing to offer for me.

I know what you mean. Far Cry 3, like the Assassin's Creed games IMO, shows how sandbox games tend to be much less interesting or entertaining than traditional linear games. To this day I consider Assassin's Creed Prince of Persia gone wrong. Still, I wasn't bothered by Stalker for some reason, I think it's really something specifically about how Ubisoft handles sandbox gameplay that makes these games boring and uninspired to me.

Agree again. I loved the wackiness in Saints Row 2, it was possibly my best sandbox experience to date and it felt like what GTA should have become when going next gen (well, last gen at this point) but with Saints Row 3 the devs just went too far. It was so ridiculously silly and over-the-top that the game somehow lost all its appeal for me.

F4LL0UT: snip
I think I'll buy Dungeon Keeper 2 soon and I plan on playing TH, without Corsix, as that appears to be unfinished.

Have you taken a look at War for the Overworld? It looks very similar to DK.

I have not. I've heard the title but I haven't taken a closer look at the game yet. I certainly wasn't aware that it was another game in the same vein as DK.
