catpower1980: Actually, it's also on different days in Europe. In Belgium it was last week while in France it was 2 weeks ago.

On my part, I offered one my old cellphones to my father as he's old and don't have one so in case of emergency (while he's on the road) he can still contact someone.

trentonlf: I see now that Mother's Day and Father's Day is different depending on where you live, did not realize that before. Thanks for the heads up, always good to learn something new :)
Slightly relevant: http://satwcomic.com/mother-s-day
Happy Father's Day to all who celebrate it.

dtgreene: Just wanted to point out that this holiday isn't happy for everyone. Some people have abusive dads, while others have dads that have passed away, while some were raised by single or lesbian mothers.
You're the guy who's always the life of the party, aren't you? "Happy birthday!" "I just want to point out that at this very minute millions of people are dying, and you're celebrating being one year closer to your death."

This is Father's Day, BTW, not "bitching kid day". Let the fathers have their little celebration.
Happy Father's Day to all fathers (of course).
May the force be with you all.

tinyE: My heart goes out to all those who either had abusive fathers or no father at all, but it's no reason to ignore the dads out there, like mine, who busted their asses and gave their children someone to look up to.
I agree. Parents make a big impact, for better or worse.

Ummmm, abandons kids, falls into lava pit, takes over Universe, tries to kill daughter, cut's off son's hand.

Hey, works for me! :D

That is all.
Yes thank you for the truth. +1 rep to you.

People have kids for selfish reasons. They want a genetic insurance policy that will grow up to take care of them when they are old or just want to brag to their friends that "Oh look, I have kids, what an accomplishment, blah blah blah"

Plus too many fathers are just absent from their kids lives because they are deadbeat poor, lazy or chase younger, hotter girls and dont want a family to begin with, while impregnating slutty females left and right.

No pun was intended.

trentonlf: Each and every day is as happy or as good as you make it despite any extenuating circumstances. My father has passed and does her name this day any less happy for others? No.

Should I be selfish in not wishing others a happy Father's Day just because my dad has passed? I don't think so.

If you choose to look at the negative side I'm sorry, but I would still wish you happiness no matter what.

tinyE: Well said.

My heart goes out to all those who either had abusive fathers or no father at all, but it's no reason to ignore the dads out there, like mine, who busted their asses and gave their children someone to look up to.

Now I feel kind of shitty just giving my dad a stupid book about football today. :P

And on a side note, what is wrong with being raised by lesbian mothers?
A good parent is a good parent and bad one a bad one; gender and sexual preference don't enter into it.

Shit, now I'm actually kind of pissed.
Your dad busted his ass because that is what he "HAS TO DO". After all, he made kids with a woman. ITS THEIR DUTY to look after kids.

If he did not do that, then he would be running away from his responsibilities and society would shame him for that.

Plus, gender and sexual preference do enter into parenthood. Kids from a traditional family background fare better on average than kids from gay couple household.

The wisdom that a father gives to his kids cannot be given by lesbian mothers.
Part of why this past month has sucked for me is that I've gone through a separation, and my ex- moved several hundred miles away with our child very suddenly. Being a father was the most important part of every day, and now there's just a void.

I've been dreading father's day for that reason. While there's no question there are terrible fathers out there, just as there are terrible people/Christians to whom we still wish a very Merry Christmas.

Vader never "took over" or ruled the universe. As a matter of fact I don't recall him ever demonstrating any kind of political power. :P

The 1950s called, they want you back. :P

If you get offended over others celebrating their happiness you're a prick and sure as hell don't deserve others being sensitive over your personal unhappiness. Seriously, this "if I'm not happy nobody is allowed to be happy" mentality is the stuff mass murderers are made of. And that lesbian mother couple example is beyond moronic.
Wait, I just got another call.

It's the 1850s. They say they want you more than the 1950s.

There's nothing wrong with being raised by lesbian mothers. It's just that it's not obvious how to handle holidays like Mothers' Day and Father's Day in that sort of situation. Similar (though not identical) situations happen when one (or both) parents is/are transgender.

Also, I'm not offended about people being happy. I am just asking you to consider the fact that not everyone is like you,

Actually, studies have shown the opposite. For an example, see:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/25/lesbian-moms-high-self-esteem_n_4854450.html

The fact that children with lesbian parents do better in some studies can be explained by the fact that same sex couples don't have children by accident. If a same sex couple has a child (and it isn't from a previous relationship), it is because they want that child.

It is an accomplishment. Sex is terrifying. I suspect I'm still doing it entirely wrong and everyone is just too polite to tell me so.

Quit knockin' my hard-earned fatherhood.
