I have no argument with any of those selected. Personally never a Mario fan but i can recognize the impact it had.

The first six games

What's the sixth game? Is it hiding behind that World of Warcraft box some joker positioned in front of the camera?
I miss the era where Pete Rose never gets in, despite being a bit of a Pete Rose fan. And no steroid user should EVER go. I hope the writers maintain their integrity far into the future.

And no, just because someone KNOWN to use steroids is never let in, doesn't mean everyone you THINK used steroids can't ever go in. I want to jump through the screen / radio and beat to hell all these jackasses who say that because Player X is 100% a known steroid user, we therefore cannot ever elect a player from the 90s - early 00s.

Don't use piss poor logic sportswrite / talking head - just say you're okay with letting in a cheat you gutless jerk.

Wait, was this thread about something different?

I know that. It was a joke, because I really think WoW doesn't belong there.

The games inducted are fine, but it's weird to me to have a hall of fame that seems to be dedicated entirely to the games without including the people who made them.

guess they want to focus on the actual games

otherwise we get a parade of the usual suspects again ( wil wright shigsie bushnel meier and so on )
Hmm, I read the article and was wondering why games like "Civilization", "Pirates" or "Railroad Tycoon" were not in the last round. Or "Xenon Megablast", because of it`s cool soundtrack back then!
*Looks at list and sees World of Warcraft*

This list looks more like Hall of Shame to me.

Replace Doom with Wolfenstein 3D and WoW with Wizardry and it will start making sense.
Where's Sacrifice ???
Blizzard has a knack for getting undeserved credit. Warcraft over Dune 2, World of Warcraft over Ultima Online... makes me wonder if there already are people who think Blizzard invented collectible trading card games with Hearthstone.

To be fair, as much as Blizzard has been plagued by a lack of originality all along (excluding the genre-defining Diablo which ironically was acquired from another company), they've always been able to get more out of other developers' concepts than the creators themselves. But yes, a lot of the credit is undeserved. Both the gameplay and content of their flagship franchises are rip-offs that only slowly evolved into their own thing.

Agree up to the point that you say its undeserved credit. Are they original? Hardly. But neither was Star Wars or any fantasy setting after Lord of the Ring (which was lifted from folk tales). There is zero shame in taking something and molding it to your own design. What Blizzard does best is take an idea and develop a story to reach a ton of people, casual and hardcore alike. I mean, how many people have died playing WoW and Starcraft yet you can sit down and play through having never played a game in your life. Thats what they do better than anyone else and they deserve a ton of credit for it, its not an easy thing to appeal to the masses.
