Insomnia returns to GOG.com.

BREAKING TOO: You bought all the classics. Nice! Fresh new games are taking over both streams until all units are gone. We're getting there, so be quick!

BREAKING: Doomsday projections of an impending worldwide caffeine shortage reported, as the hyper-popular Insomnia promo returns to GOG.com. Last spotted in May of 2014, the "greatest promo ever" has since transformed into a phenomenon most accurately described as "Double Insomnia". GOG.com's best men have been unable to fully comprehend the nature of this beastly transformation so far. Preliminary research indicates, however, that its effects are relatively benign.

Welcome back, sleepless friends. Against everyone's better judgement, the hyperactive promo returns to GOG.com with twice the everything. The Double Insomnia Promo will feature more games than ever, and two simultaneous pools: Seasoned classics and Fresh new titles. If you know how this works you're probably trembling with anticipation already (or is it fear?), but if you're just joining us... well, you'll still probably make it out okay.

What's all the hullabaloo about? All sales are offered in limited quantities, and the number of copies remaining is labeled with a huge counter on the front page. There are two pools, and only one game from either pool can be on sale at one time. Once a game sells out, another will immediately take its place so that two are always available. If you missed your chance, fear not but keep your eyes open! Your favorite one will probably be back. Insomnia mercilessly goes on, day and night, until every single unit is gone - like a carousel of deals. You might even have a chance to get a free game, if you're lucky that is.

SoanoS: Hah. Seems a lot of people hate me now. Well, that is too bad I guess. Hate me all you like if it makes you feel better. Let that anger, disappointment and hate out and "downvote" as much as you like.
Hell no! I don't hate anyone, certainly nobody here. :) No anger or hostility here either, quite the opposite. :) I don't bother much with the up/down vote thing either because it is completely useless IMHO, although I occasionally habitually +1 people who host giveaways and whatnot out of convention/habit. ;)

SoanoS: All I really wanted to say was that promos would be fair and equal chance for everyone, unlike these "insomnia" stunts. That's all. This promo favoured certain groups more than the others because many never had a chance to see what they want on sale because of real life or bad timing. These "copy numbers" are in many cases irrelevant, considering some of these titles are sold in unlimited quantities with indie/humble bundles for 5 games or more for 2 dollars or less every day. So I don't think it is the publishers imposing a limit on the "copies".

And no, I am not bullshitting on health risks of sleep deprivation if there is a pre-existing medical condition. I actually started shitting blood after trying to keep up.

Lastly, jokes of me 'not liking promos/discounts/nice things' aside, I think an anti-sale for a charity would actually be an idea I would get behind.
You're certainly entitled to your opinion like anyone else here of course, but life is far too short to let a sales promotion on a video game retailer website cause any undue stress/anger or other emotions, although it may happen to us all from time to time if we're too tied up in things.

If you're literally shitting up blood, please please please get yourself to a hospital as soon as possible, that can be seriously life threatening! Don't take any chances, especially if you have a health condition!

Hey, your idea for charity is not a bad idea at all. They could perhaps structure it as GOG donating an equal amount to charity as a person pays above the regular cost of the game. That'd be a great idea actually.

Anyhow, get yourself to a hospital and hopefully you've got nothing serious going wrong there! Let us know how you make out when you get back!

Shendue: If i am right and it's completely random, it's just sheer luck. You must be a particularly strong case of bad luck.
Did you play Pixeljunk shooter already?
avatar
TrevorWilliams: I'd guess it's completely random. I bet there's someone who clicked all 600 or whatever occurrences and didn't get a single freebie; and someone only clicked three and all were free.

And if that's me you're asking about Pixeljunk Shooter, yes. I've only played 20 minutes or so, but it was pretty fantastic. I'm saving it for a gloomy day when I need a definite cheer me up game.
Didn't click on 600, but pretty close and didn't get a single freebie. I did purchase 8 games at great prices though!

That is good to know that you don't hate me after all. I sometimes do get wound up about things that I care about, but it has only been last few months that I have been on a "hair trigger".

I did put a "Charity Anti-sale" suggestion up on the community wish-list for a site feature. Hopefully something good comes out of it :)
If anyone wishes to vote for it, here it is: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/charity_antisale

Anyone who is worried about my health, fear not. Tthere is no need to be alarmed about it, this has been going on for a while now, due to my Crohn's Disease which has been flaring up a lot lately. I do have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and I hope the miraculously incompetent Tampere University Hospital gastroenterologists will figure out something that will make me better.

There is a book called Breaking the Vicious Cycle that you might want to check out, which was very helpful to a friend of mine who had severe intestinal problems (IBS and other). There are videos on Youtube covering the topics covered in this book also, namely the "Specific Carbohydrate Diet" which is the main topic of the book. He feels it saved his life, so it's worth investigating at least.

Hope this helps!

I have actually read that book, but at the moment I am not sure if I am able to take up on the challenge, as that diet is VERY strict and I am not sure if I am able to follow it without help. I may need to revisit it again if medication continues to prove as ineffective as it has been lately (weak medical response to different treatments). But first I need to get back on my feet again. Been a little bit of a rough ride last few years.

It is indeed quite strict and challenging, however one can ease into it slowly over time by making individual meals from it and gradually phasing them into the diet to get used to them, then more and more over time eating habits change a bit more and more. The biggest challenge is elimination of sugar and stuff that contains sugar. My buddy had the toughest time with that part, but it did wonders in the end. Another thing to check out if you haven't seen it is the movie "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" which is pretty amazing. I'm about to soon do a 15 day "reboot" based on this. I did a 3 and 5 day several times and felt great after, going for a bigger challenge this time but I think I can handle it as I weaned myself off of a lot of the difficult-to-wean-off-of things a few years ago. Makes ya feel like a million bucks though.

Sugar... Yes. That would be the main problem, as my metabolism has been living of sugars for over 2 decades now. Trying to cut off would probably drive me insane. I cannot handle any of the artificial sweeteners either because they cause physical pain and cramps...

Gah. This would be so much easier if I didn't have to go trough all this alone.

On the bright side, I am not at risk of getting overweight, not with the malabsorption and the state of malnutrition I am in. :P

One thing I did a long time ago was dropping out all the "junk food" like burgers, minced pork/beef (whole meats only) and processed foods. That helped me immensely and probably has been the main thing that has enabled me to struggle this far (23 years from diagnosis now, 37 years old).

It is nice to see there is at least someone who cares. Thank you.

Ciris: It was... Mostly, sleepless. And I couldn't do any other tasks, pretty much, because either I was waiting for a game to tweet about (I'm responsible for our social media), so I was on the lookout as a title dropped from 600 to zero in minutes, or I was anxiously watching the changes between streamers on Twitch, as that's also a thing I was responsible for organising, to make sure nothing critical happens.
Hard to imagine, especially as you are sitting "at the source". Didn't you at least have a tool which notices you when one of the games on sale changes (or for the slow 3rd round even wakes you up)?
