I find echoing sentiments from those who make the same argument against companies that cascade their games with 'play house', or 'different colour' dlc, and take advantage of pay-pig stupidity (slightly different, sue me). Honestly, if I'm blind enough to not take a few seconds and see a clear statement before making a choice, then I'd laugh at myself, and eventually rectify the mistake with zero consequence during.

Ahh, I feel five pounds lighter.

marklaur: Unfortunately this is what I have started to do. Not buy many GoG games now.
Are there alternative shops? I know only of HumbleBundle for indies.

or you could just uncheck "Install GOG Galaxy" in Options when using the installer with Galaxy included and the choice wil be saved for every single installer.

Unless you are using Wine and each game has its own prefix.

Of course, if you are using Wine, than you are likely able to follow my advice whenever possible: Don't download the Windows version if a native version is available. It is currently impossible for Linux versions to have Galaxy included, as there is no Linux version of Galaxy yet.
Shouldn't disabling both Galaxy services work if you want to leave it installed but only use it once in a while? You'd have to turn those services back on when you want to use it, of course.
I use galaxy and like it but i agree that the hidden auto download is shady and bloatware at its finest. well done graphic!
I use VirtualBox for my WIndows install, so the easiest thing is to just take a snapshot, download whatever games I want to using the client and then revert to a version that doesn't have the client installed.

My main complaint with the client has been that it doesn't let you download everything in one fell swoop. You have to select individual titles to download. Whereas the third party downloaders will allow you to just queue up all the downloads at once.
Great OP. I use Galaxy but I don't like the way how by default GOG presents Galaxy in ways that attempt to push it on old customers who don't want it and also trick new customers into using it by not making clear to them that they don't need to do so.

The descriptor "Classic Game installer" is vague and ambiguous; therefore, customers can reasonably misinterpret/misunderstand what that is supposed to mean.

"Classic Game Installer" should be renamed to something that makes what it is 100% crystal clear to all customers (including customers who will never read this thread), such as "Installer that does not include the Galaxy client."

What, you mean like the text that appears at the bottom of the download list that says just that?
I really wish GOG would go Microsoft already and force Galaxy, updates and whatever else so I don't have to keep up with all the bullshit and know not to buy here again.

Keeping up with all the bullshit in that sense gets tiring I agree.

I am on the verge too, after I've seen the KasperHviid's illustration image. It's bad practice to installing client like this. Like in some shady page with bootleg. This really put GOG down. I don't know if rest of the people is numbed enough to not care and we (who are complaining) are just strange or what.
