Hinterbichler: @DCT: Maybe gog should cooperate with Canonical. One goal for Ubuntu 13.04 is to become a better gaming platform. Ok, that would be kinda unfair for Fedora, Suse etc., but you have to start somewhere.
I never said they couldn't but again you just gave a problem with that it would be unfair to users of other Distros and let's face it GOG supporting one Distro over the others will still cause mass bitching and complaining from those who are going to be left out so it's not really solving much outside of satisfying those who use that one distro. Yeah I know and heard the argument from people saying that those who have other distros will figure out how to run the games on theirs in the meantime and that maybe the case for some but the are still going to be a backlash over it and GOG strikes me as the type of company that rather go all or nothing(well as close to it as possible) when it comes to supporting OS's.

dirtyharry50: Bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch.... Will you just shut up? Nobody wants to hear your whining about Apple and how you disliked the Macintosh of 9 years ago in a thread that is about the great news of Mac games being released on GOG.
I hate being disrespectful to others here on the forums, but...

Stop it. Seriously.

I don't know Bloodygoodgames personally, but what I do know is that she (he?) is one of the more mature, reasoned, and level-headed posters that I've seen recently on the forums. I've seen her (his?) posts in the political/societal debate threads that pop up on this forum from time to time, and I've often found her posts to be bold and insightful.

Just like the many, many others on this forum who happen to dislike, for many rational reasons I might add, Apple and the Mac platform.

They are perfectly entitled to their opinion, just as how you are entitled to yours. But do you know what you are not entitled to do? Act disrespectful and arrogant because someone disagrees with you. I think Bloodygoodgames has every reason to be annoyed; I would have wanted Linux compatibility too. I was just fine running my GOG releases before this announcement and honestly, it doesn't really change things for me, except that with more customers and money coming into GOG, the probability of us getting more classic and indie releases increases dramatically.

You're doing yourself – and the other Mac users on this forum, like myself – no favours by acting like that. Yeah, I've been offended by some of the comments made about Mac users like myself by some of the people here, but I try to remember that there are more important things to argue about than Mac vs. Windows, and there is a lot more depth to a person beyond something ultimately frivolous as what computer they choose to use. If you're fed up with someone's complaining, the best thing to do, IMO is just ignore it and move on.

cyboff: Hey GOG! You are suprising me still and everywhere!!! I didn't noticed it at first, but artworks in .dmgs are just AWESOME!!! They are made with real love! Thank you Windows users can be jealous:D
Oh yeah, I noticed that too! Try zooming them all the way up to 512x512 :)

This is what I was talking about, Mac apps somehow tend to have that little bit more polish than their Windows cousins, probably just cause of being in a posh neighborhood, so to speak ^^

Bloodygoodgames: LOL. I see why your rep is 4 :)
I also only have 4 posts, more or less. This is the only thread I've read and chimed in since joining GOG 3 years ago. I was content with just burying your irrelevant posts until you started derping about others doing the same thing you were doing. That was too much to let go lol

As for your rep, may I suggest spotlighting the fact that "yeah, you're a girl" a little more? A signature linking to your Facebook maybe, a pouty/busty photo in your avatar? I hear the duckface does wonders.

Thanks Rampancy :)

Now how me mentioning I wouldn't buy an Apple because of past experiences is "disrespectful to others" only someone who really isn't that intelligent could come up with that kind of rationale. But, yep, those types of people are out there and unfortunately they occasionally show up on GOG :)

As for GOG offering Mac games, I said before and I'll say it again, I think it's great. The more ways GOG can get gamers involved in the better, IMO. And if that means offering games compatible with the Mac computer, good for them!

I've never had a problem with people buying Apple products. It's a free world. It's just not something I'll ever be doing again.

BTW, it's definitely "she".

And no.....I won't be wasting time answering the fool that posted below yours. That boy must be 12 years old :)

dirtyharry50: I am curious about something. I guess you missed her posts recently in this very thread where she was insulting others personally. Yet for some reason you did not deem it necessary to scold her. Me on the other hand, you do scold. Why is that? Scroll up and have a look at how pleasant she can be to others. See for yourself. Maybe then you can understand my lack of patience for her.
avatar
Psyringe: Not really. There's nothing wrong about feeling passionate about something, and even rants can be entertaining to read. And, even more important, she actually delivers factual arguments, and contributes to the discussion. Your post, however, was just a very primitive attack with zero arguments. Sorry, you lose. By a landslide. :)
LOL, I'm not sure how 'factual' some of my arguments are. I talk "out of my hat" quite a lot :)

Actually, I was talking about backgrounds and design of .dmg file, when you open it...
I didn't noticed perfect icons before, another surprise :D

Gizmojunk: ~Speaking of Life sucks.... Why did 'good OLD games' require Snow Leopard for their MAC installers!? Is it really impossible to run these on 10.5?
avatar
HiPhish: Might be just a "better to be safe than sorry". If you want the DOS games they are just standalone Boxer ports, you can get Boxer from here: http://boxerapp.com The current version still runs on 10.5 but support for that will be dropped with the 1.4 release. To get the Boxer file from GoG's standalone port right-click it -> Show Package Contents -> Contents -> Resources -> NameOfTheGame.boxer Take that nd put it somewhere where you want your Boxer gameboxes to be. then you can just double-click the gamebox to start Boxer.

The Witcher is a Wineskin port, those don't run on Leopard anymore. The developer's reasoning was that that any Mac that's Intel can run 10.6 and PowerPC Macs cannot run Wine anyway.
This was a good answer. Thank you.

I should have clarified that I did mean just the DOS games; my MAC is 10.5 PPC, and would never run the Witcher at passable frame-rates.

Yet another sign (as if we needed any more?) that GOG truly cares, and an encouraging sign that when GOG does Linux support (and I no long have any doubt that they will), they'll make sure that they won't do it until they do it right.

I don't know if Boxer runs on PowerPC or just Intel. Before you rush ahead and buy all the DOS games you should download Boxer and try it. Boxer already comes with a few nice DOS games already wrapped up in gameboxes and ready to play.
Oh, I forgot to post this picture since it fits this update:

Wow. Just Wow. Now that is a smart move right there.Yeah, let's spend money and resources on (puts on glasses and magnifying glass ) 6% marketshare Apple has. You guys should concentrate your resources on things that matter like bringing on a lot of requested GOOD OLD GAMES to GOG that are nowhere to be found . Where is SWAT 4 , Dune 2 (yes it could be run on windows 7) etc etc ? But yeah , let's invest time in supporting those 6% of hipsters from which perhaps only 3-4 % are interested in games (and i'm beeing very generous ) What can i say , a smart move is a smart move.

Oh I have dozens; (both from GoG and on 5¼ & 3½ floppy). Boxer [1.3] does run on Power PC. This one is an old Imac [1Ghz], and while it cannot run Boxer fast enough for Dungeon Keeper, it does work for less the less demanding titles.

Thanks for mentioning Boxer, (I had never heard of it before).

You do realize that user base is much more important than market share?
It is entirely possible that 30 % of the user base are (or will be) Mac users. If you want to involve statistics like these into the discussion, you need a chart showing how many "people who enjoy DRM free old games" use each operating system.
I hope you also realize that expanding the user base increases GOG's income (as does making new games available), meaning that one can help the other instead of inhibiting it.

umadbro?

First off, even if the total number of Mac OS X users was 5% of all desktop computers, it'd still be millions of potential customers. Basic maths, learn2percentage.

If you want to pick at it, these statistics are either derived from browser usage - which won't be able to differentiate pirated OS'es, that is the vast majority of Windows installations worldwide (how many people do you think actually pirate OS X, let alone have non-Macs that can run it?) - or licenses sold, which will include OEMs and corporate sales. In any case, the total number of Macs in use has been increasing for the past few years while PC sales had been stagnating, and even a few % translates to millions of people.

Next, 70% or so of all computers sold for over $1000 also happen to be Macs. Check out the statistics for things like the Humble Indie Bundles; Mac owners generally pay more than Windows scrubs. So, it's a richer demographic. There's mucho money to made by catering to the Mac world; ask Blizzard, Valve and all the other devs that offer OS X versions for their games.

Finally, if you really wanted SWAT 4 and Dune 2 shouldn't you go petition for those elsewhere on this site instead of raging over people getting to enjoy their favorite games on their preferred platform?

Haters gonna hate. <3
