In CrossOver Games 10.x/WINE 1.3.x it works perfectly. Under CrossOver 11/Wine 1.4 it's a little more complicated. Interstate '76 works. Deus Ex and Unreal Tournament work well too (but they already work well in DX/OpenGL anyway). I think I remember Blood 2 having Glide support but I don't rightly remember.

Oddly though it seems to have been broken in MDK. I've ended up making a wrapper in Wineskin for it as a way of working around this.

Ah, I see it, the relative position changes. Actually I think that's pretty neat. I'd say the 3dfx effects were superior to the flat perspective.

I'll have to dl the wrapper and replay it, I wouldn't have bothered if I hadn't found out about this.

The perspective effect can be enabled in Direct3D mode as well :)

Check out the difference in the sharpness of the terrain between Glide and D3D (attachments). Both shots are at default brightness and contrast settings, Lighting Detail set to High, Blended Shadows on and Perspective on.
It looks like Direct3D mode is using some weird upscaling or filtering on the terrain texture and shadows, and has a completely different default setting for brightness and contrast.

As was Diablo 2, I miss 3DFX. To bad Nvidia bought them out and gutted all of it's best features. Screw you Nvidia.

Sounds great.
The best glide wrapper for Diablo 2 is this one called Sven's Wrapper or some such, but personally I prefer running D2 in DirectDraw and in an older version so I can run the widescreen mod. Diablo 2 in 1080p is truly something to behold.

That's because Glide was the 3DFX specific API. Doing otherwise would be silly, just as I would use the PowerSGL version of the game with my Matrox M3D. The proper API would usually have more features than the other ones would.

Which is why people eventually moved to OpenGL and DirectX as the API of choice. It just made no sense to develop using a half dozen different APIs that were specific to one chipset or another.

Yes, but using it with DOS games requires some extra steps to set it up. Refer to the downloads page for instructions.

The M3D was one of the only cards on the market powered by NEC's PowerVR chip. It was technically superior to what 3DFX was selling at the time. It had 800x600 resolution compared with 640x480 and didn't require a pass through like Voodoo did.

Unfortunately, NEC screwed up the roll out of the next generation by devoting the chips produced to a certain console that shall remain nameless and by the time they got the next one to market it was essentially too little too late.

The performance on the M3D wasn't the greatest, but the chip had potential. And it was quite affordable.
S3, Matrox, 3Dfx.. what else beside Nvidia and ATi at that time?
