Archimedean Dynasty!

The greatest submarine RPG known to man!
Great news!I can't wait to see what this collaboration will spawn in GOG's catalog. Though it remain a mystery for me why GOG didn't made this agreement public so far (their agreement with dosbox was announced on the site news).

rampancy: Oddly though it seems to have been broken in MDK. I've ended up making a wrapper in Wineskin for it as a way of working around this.
avatar
crazy_dave: Good to know, thanks!
I should clarify that either CrossOver Games 10.x or Wineskin with a CXG 10.3 engine, with nGlide installed, is the best way to run MDK that I've seen using WINE on the Mac (you can even play it on widescreen resolutions); I'm still not sure why this broke in WINE 1.4/CX11. I'll likely try WINE 1.5.x and see if that fixes things.

Maybe they're waiting Tuesday to announce a game along with this? Maybe they're working on the implementation on some of their old games to announce the updates? There are many possibilities.

Although I'd like to hear their own comments on the matter.

Makes me wish that they'd get a deal with Bethesda and sell The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard. Loved the demo, but never got the chance to play the full game.

grynn: I remember choosing Glide rather than oher API's when I had a Voodoo 3.
avatar
hedwards: That's because Glide was the 3DFX specific API. Doing otherwise would be silly, just as I would use the PowerSGL version of the game with my Matrox M3D. The proper API would usually have more features than the other ones would.

Which is why people eventually moved to OpenGL and DirectX as the API of choice. It just made no sense to develop using a half dozen different APIs that were specific to one chipset or another.
Actually OpenGL was looking better for some games, but I always prefered 3dfx's own API, it was faster I guess.

GODS YES!
Works in DOSBox, too! With a little tweaking on joypad config for timing issues to make it controllable....
And made by BlueByte! Who ARE here, already! (Hell, I had it on a bonus CD from when I bought Settlers2. Not usually a fan of pumping, throbbing techno-music, but it actually works well in AD).

Y U NO HAVE IT, GOG?

That's usually because the developers weren't using the API correctly or were more focused on having something that everybody could play with their card.

wormholewizards: S3, Matrox, 3Dfx.. what else beside Nvidia and ATi at that time?
Rendition Verite was one of the early ones. S3 had their awful Virge and later Savage.

I think those were the major ones though, I think there were a couple others that I'm forgetting.

tfishell: Matrox! (spelling?) I remember that brand before ATI and nVidia became the two head honchos. My family had a Matrox G200, I believe.

hedwards: The M3D was one of the only cards on the market powered by NEC's PowerVR chip. It was technically superior to what 3DFX was selling at the time. It had 800x600 resolution compared with 640x480 and didn't require a pass through like Voodoo did.

Unfortunately, NEC screwed up the roll out of the next generation by devoting the chips produced to a certain console that shall remain nameless and by the time they got the next one to market it was essentially too little too late.

The performance on the M3D wasn't the greatest, but the chip had potential. And it was quite affordable.
Yeah, I'll take your word for it. ;) All I remember was Matrox G200 with 8 megs and 3D Acceleration capability. (Growing up I was all about 3D Accelerators, because even though I didn't know what they did, I knew the games that interested me the most needed them.)

Side-thought: I really hope GOG writes up an announcement next week about this, and maybe hints at some of the awesome titles we can be expecting or re-releases of DOS to 3DFx/nGlide (or whatever the technical details entail) that will happen.
Does this finally mean Tomb Raider 1?

Good chance, considering Eidos is already on GOG. I loved the original TR, I have so much nostalgia for that waterfall/dinosaur level.

Since we have Squeenix on board? That would be great! I played 3, the 2 demo, and AoD but never 1 or full 2. So having the full series on here would be amazing! (I'd love to re-purchase AoD again, and at least the theme as a bonus is a MUST! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41aq7BR_5nY [YT man strikes again ;)])

Glad to see that someone appreciate Angel of Darkness. I thought this one had the best storyline in the series (too bad it's unfinished).

Tomb Raider 2 was my very first game on the Playstation. Never got to play 1 and I only played a little bit of 3 (the difficulty is simply brutal).

TR 2, 3 Last Revelation, Chronicles, all work fine on Windows7 as far as I can tell, I tried them briefly, but I did have a problem with getting them to work with my gamepad, and I have like the best Logitech wireless one around, though it's probably something on my end. And playing TR on the keyboard is like trying to play WC without a joystick, suicidal.

JudasIscariot: Does nGlide make Gorky 17 work properly? Because this would go a long way if it did. Then it could finally be fixed.
I think I'll try this today in Windows 7... So what exactly is the problem (link)? If I am able to run GOG Gorky 17 at all without visible errors (with or without nGlide), is it fixed? It happens on all PCs, or only some?

I didn't yet check the subforum for this game, I want to be sure if there is some specific problem or several different problems with it.

I have played only the first original TR (on PSX and PC, with 3Dfx patch yay!), and I don't remember having any issues finishing the game with the keyboard.

Are there some keyboard problems with the sequels then (which I haven't played, except TR2 demo briefly a long time ago)? I hope GOG gets the TR games to its line-up...
