Re: GOG, no, I spoke with them today. They told me they were unwilling to stock our game because they don't think indie titles should be priced above $15 and we won't sell if we do (they figure all the die-hard fans will have been swept up by pre-orders and the Kickstarter by release).

Said Goldhawk Interactive, authors of Xenonauts in the comments of their Kickstarter project.

Edit: The sentence from GOG read exactly like this:
“We feel, and our customers tell us, that Indie games should be priced at $20 or less.”
Thanks to Mr. England, the lead dev of Xenonauts, for chiming in and clarifying.

I understand the reasoning behind this but this is a bit deeper indie game (indie as in not funded by a big publisher house, not necessarily amateur-ish), not just another vector shooter or pixelated scroller.

I bet you would gain goodwill if you accepted them and helped them despite your objections.
Give them a chance, no?

I certainly wouldn't buy it at $25, and I wouldn't appreciate seeing that price on this site, either.
ah, they're making it into a kickstarter now. This was my hope for an X-com remake back before Firaxis announced theirs. I guess attention for Xenonauts will have dropped off some since then.

Do think they were asking for quite a bit though, like $30 or something? (seems to be 25 now but I'm pretty sure it was in the 3 before.)
Good to hear GOG are showing restraint on the pricing. I think they would lose far more goodwill from selling at that price than not.
Indie titles shouldn't be priceed above $15? Is that for real?

Shame they couldn't apply the same philosophy to games that came out in 2004.

I agree, but after that it happened it is nice to know they still draw the line.

Steam says the same and it's been shown that the few that have forced through higher prices have seen massive sales improvements after lowering it to 15 or less
Says on their kickstarter page that the game is going to be DRM-free anyway, available from Desura (without having to use the client) and maybe the Humble Bundle store. No real need for it to be on GOG.
Well, I'd much rather pay $25 for a great, brand new indie game than $20 for a mediocre non-indie game from 2004, but that's just me.
Eh. In 2 years it'll be in a PWYW indie bundle anyway.
Yeah let's all say no to indie titles that have a higher price than $15, just because.

What the hell GOG? I'm not seeing the logic here. It's fine to sell a $30 game that is published by a 3rd party, but it's not okay to sell an independently published game that costs $25?

I think it's from business point of view. RCT3 maybe because they already partner with Atari.
How many indie games out there that priced above $15? From Desura it's not much, but in my opinion not all of them deserved high price point. Maybe GOG should make an exception for Xenonauts.

Maybe they just mean this game as opposed to all indie games. Either way, I'm glad GOG is showing restraint.
Here to register my vote in favour of Xenonauts on GOG for $25 (or less is possible, obviously =).
Make it so, GOG!
