wormholewizards: The demo is awesome, i'm instantly hooked. Don't look down on indie game, but still i haven't decided whether to get it full price or wait for promo.
avatar
lowyhong: B-b-but it looks like a Facebook game!
Plough the graphic. Most of Paradox turn based game also have lame PS1 graphic, but they're still regarded as the best grand strategy game ever.

The sound effect in Xenonaut is damn nice. If only there's some tutorial or tool tip.
Anyway, this is just 1 GB alpha demo, i'm sure there's lot of other excellent stuff in the retail.

ChrisEngland: If you're keen to buy Xenonauts, every other major distributor we've spoken to is keen to stock us so you'll have ample chance to buy the game elsewhere.

Pheace: Any chance that includes Steam? (stares full of hope)

Although I think they don't easily commit to indie games that aren't done yet.
Yup. First distributors to be signed on with are Steam and Desura.

Yeah I know, I was just being snarky.

Pheace: snip
The Dev said already that they are talking to Humble Bundle guys alongside other Digital Distributors...so that assumption...is quite possible.

I know, but i can't believe anybody would complain about the look in GOG site. Can't say Realms of Arkania graphic is much better than this.

@SimonG
You got a point there. If the price is little bit lower, i'll not hesitate to buy it. You can still get the standard edition for $20 at Desura.
I have updated the first post with the exact sentence GOG sent to Goldhawk Interactive.

Thinking about it now maybe it was a negotiation bid from GOG, not outright rejection:
You want to sell it on GOG for 25? Well our upper limit is 20 and our hands are tied - our customers set the price.* What can you do with that?

klaymen: $25? That is way too much for an indie game in my book.
So... If a game is indie, it's worth less than that of majorpublisher? How does that work? I've had more fun with an indie game (English Country Tune) last year than a had with Skyrim and possibly even Portal 2. Indie =/= Terrible game.

And yet major devs use more people to do a game = more expenses.

Same ratio.

Starmaker: "Unfortunately?" Aren't YOU the devs? This is year 1979, which means the Soviet Union is still around, and there are female machinegunners, tank crewmembers and pilots.
avatar
JMich: It's an engine limitations, since as I recall reading quite a while back, they can't just add a weapon's model to a soldier's model, they have to create each and every soldier/weapon combination. So assuming you have 100 models total with the current male only squads, adding female soldiers as well means having to create 100 more models. If you want, I can try to dig up the relevant post from their website.

Edit: Found it. FAQ, Section Gameplay, 2nd point.
That is a bullshit excuse. They don't list upgrading the engine as one of their kickstarter goals, and the sprites they use now - armored and helmeted (unlike the female sprites of UFO with their awesome but impractical ponytails) - can serve for women just as well as for men. Or do they think women need boob armor?

So what? It isn't the expenses that set the price.. the market does.

Just happened to be reading the thread about Ogre.. which proves the point.
Who doesn’t want their fans to say that they’re willing to pay you more than you expected to do something you love, and in fact they want to give you the support to release an improved product? This is a strong case for the board game community’s willingness to pay more for quality.

So adding another pool of faces/names for females, along with a gender chance will be enough? If so, send ChrisEngland a PM with that suggestion, he did register in the forums today, and he also replied to you. Can't say I really care either way, though it does make a good suggestion.

No women do not need boob armor. I don't see why this come down to sexism considering this isn't just about not having females but not having soldiers with any other body types in general. So no, not boob armor but the armor would certainly have to be re-done to fit another body shape.

Add to that the complexity of a body part engine isn't that much more than a straight sprite engine... "Oh my god I have to load X number of image strips not just 1!!!!!" give me a break its a 1 maybe 2 day fix (load in head, chest (can include the weapon but doesn't have to you can just have a heavy weapons, pistol and AR chest then load the weapons over that), legs (you can then use the same legs for everyone in each armour and don't have to draw them x times for the weapons)... the stupid part? It would actually lower the art load overall since about 60% of the art is reused that way...

::edit to add:: The hardest part would be ensuring the body parts line up so I'll add an extra 2 days for debugging that to be kind and say its a week... since they undoubtedly use a 1 tile hit box rather than the sprite to hit I'm actually kinda suprised the coder didn't point out he could just load 3-4 sprites and line them up...

spinefarm: And the market says: 25 $ for indie game is too much :)
Let's see.. just taking the two lowest tiers:

634 backers @ $20 (minimum) = $12,680
193 backers @ $30 (minimum) = $5,790
($12,680 + $5,790) / ( 634 + 193 ) = $22.33

That's the minimum those backers may have paid. Looks pretty close to $25 to me.

Just for "completeness"..
Maximum:
634 @ $29 = $18,386
193 @ $49 = $9,457
( $18,386 + $9,457 ) / ( 634 + 193 ) = $33

Middle:
634 @ $25 = $15,850
193 @ $40 = $7,720
( $15,850 + $7,720 ) / ( 634 + 193 ) = $28.50
