GOG.com's catalog has around 300 titles already, and we add new titles most every week (admittedly, we’re taking a bit of a break on new releases for the rest of the holiday season). Our catalog might be a little intimidating for a GOG user who hasn’t poked around it a lot, not to mention our new members. Yes, we have loads of classics you know GOG.com for like Fallout, Duke Nukem 3D, Baldur's Gate, Freespace 2, Myst, etc., but there are games that have landed under the radar of the masses--but they still deserve your attention!

As a guide to some of these gems, we’re offering a three part series over the next 10 days, whereby we’ll give you insight into what some of us on the GOG team think are the most underappreciated gems in our catalog. Each of these articles will be focused on a different genre of games, and this article by Cook covers hidden gems in two genres: RPG and adventure games.

I have two CDs of Darkstone and neither will install in Windows 7. Would love to be able to play it again. Any thoughts? Thanks.

You may want to provide us with some more info on your system.

On mine, (core i5, win 7 64bits, geforce 360M ), I had to use the following trick : http://blog.nosilleg.com/2007/09/darkstone-on-windows-xp-x64-edition.html
I have one title that you should definitely consider adding if at all possible. "The Dig" provided me with hours of fun, pleasant graphics and on a whole challenging enough to keep me happy throughout the game. Wish more games like these were made, but the adventure genre seems rather lacking when it comes to producing decent new titles these days.
Ok this one is a bit older... Darklands, this was a game done by Microprose years ago. I don't think GOG could find it as I hear the property was lost to the ages and failing companies.

Second a great adventure mystery game called Ripper it stared Christoper Wlken and music by Blue Oyster Cult. Hours of fun..

IN the same vein as Ripper .. the 11th hour I think it was called :)

1. Darklands by Microprose
2. Ripper
3. 11th Hour
I like some space games i havent seen on your site. They are as follows,
Starflight 1 and 2
Dune 2
Planets Edge
Space Empires 5
X-Com
X-Com Terror from the deep
X-Com Apocalypse
There are other games but i cant think of them right now.
I would love to see warlords 2 and then warlords 3 (both expansions).

freddde: As a Military buff I would like to see:
Panzer General 1
Steel Panthers 1&2
Warlords 1&2
Powermonger
Imerialism
Empire series
to name a few..
Privateer 2: The Darkening !
System Shock 2 please :)
There are a lot of sierra adventure games in the catalogue, but one series that isn't available is the heros quest/quest for glory series. I would love to see this added in the future as I rate the IV instalment as up there with the best story driven adventure games. Hope to see it there in the future.

Love the site btw. I have been loving replaying all the great adventure games from my past.
I just ordered the Myst special and am so looking forward to playing these games once again. i was also pleasantly surprised to see that a number of free games had been added to my "owned" shelf that I have never before played. I think it is wonderful that gog.com is releasing these beloved games we have not been able to play for so long. I also would like to see added to the catalog :
Shivers
Shivers 2
11th Hour
7th Guest
Dreamcatcher games such as:
Atlantis
Beyond Atlantis
Beyond Atlantis 2
Crystal Key
Amerzone
Jewels of the Oracle 1 & 2
Beyond Time
--just to name a few :-)

Thank you Khalaq, I had read the game catalogue list and missed it. I will be ordering it.

These are some of my favorite old Adventure games. I still have the disks and walkthroughs for all of them, but unfortunately have no way of playing them any more.

Rama
Timelapse
Lighthouse
Zork Nemesis
Zork Grand Inquisitor
The Dig
Mission Critical
Obsidian
Atlantis-the Lost Tales

Hopefully someday these games can be ported to today's hardware, they are great relaxing adventure fun.

Wow, those are some great old titles that I used to play myself. I still have the disks for some of them. I was never a fan of twitchy shooter games, adventure was my style. Good list, hope they make it out on here someday.

As you probably know already, the Zorks are now available here at GOG.com. Most likely, there is also more to come.
