Let's get this straight" somebody is basically saying GOG is dead to them because they don't like the new graphics on the site????????????
I am not a GOG fanboy, and have blasted them in the past when they have screwed up. (Pushing games out before they were really ready to play on modern systems..and I am looking at you, "Interstate 76" and "Outcast".) And don't get me started on how stupid that stunt was back in 2010 where they pretended that GOG was basically going off line permanently in a really ill thought out attempt to publcise a revamping of the website.
But quitting GoG because you don't like the freaking New Graphics???????
It is a good example of the reputation that the GOG forums have for really mindless whining.
Look, it's your right to quit GOG if you want. But IMHO it's really, really stupid.
ANd it's another example of one of the things I HATE about the Internet:People who go in High School Dramatics just because every little thing is not the way they like.

And what I "hate" about the internet is people who think their opinion is the only one that matters.

I'm a collector. Other people here were also.

Just because you don't understand it or agree with it doesn't make it any less important.

One of my favorite sayings is, "Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone has one, and they all stink." ;-)

Really? Man the only thing I really hate about the internet are the fucking popup ads. My relatives aren't that annoying!

Hmmm interesting , your an American who spelt " Arseholes" like we Brits do instead of "Assholes" ... which I thought was the American way.

dirtyharry50: Here is one saved search view of my own database setup which isn't like the shelf but I like it.
The attachment is how my collection looks in GCstar.
I wouldn't mind the difference in box size if the differences were to scale.
I don't like it when what were the largest boxes end up showing as the smallest.
Which means I may end up resizing some pictures.
But for now the priority is to get any pictures at all.

As you can see, I couldn't find any covers for the Ben There, Dan That games -- so I shrunk down selected areas of screenshots. I may tweak them later.

That looks quite nice. I can understand why you'd want consistency among the box art sizes there too. Even with some variances though, that is a nice looking setup with a lot of info nicely laid out. I think one of the challenges in finding nice box art for newer titles, particularly indies is that there was never any real box to begin with. So sometimes it is just some square graphic or whatnot unless you can find something somebody has done which is better or edit something close to what you want yourself and that admittedly is some work. On the other hand, depending on how into this you are at least the option exists like what you did for the time being with Been There, Dan That.

In fairness, the OP hasn't posted anything nearly so dramatic as your response here to him. I get your point on the one hand but is it so hard to cut somebody some slack on the other hand considering they are consistently civil and polite despite being bashed like this?

bleclair: I don't want GoG to close up shop, but I find it hard to believe they couldn't have adapted to attract new customers and kept the old ones happy. And man, learn to communicate! An email should have been sent out about the changes. Let people backup their PMs. Let people know the account system people have used for years is changing so drastically. Heck, maybe even ask for some input. And lastly; after forcing down the cod liver oil, don't try to convince everyone it's honey! :-)
I couldn't agree with you more. I feel like a lot of people would agree that The EnigmaticT's time on the forums were the Halcyon Days of GOG's customer relations. Between his regular presence on the forums and his "This Week on GOG" video series, he really did a lot to foster transparency and good will between GOG and its users.

I really think the biggest problem GOG has going forward -- hand-in-hand with its mounting site problems -- is recapturing that spirit. I'd argue that one of the strengths of GOG has been the good will fostered between the company and its customers, and it feels like GOG has been squandering it, without any recognition of what it's losing.

I've been impressed with two blues I haven't seen around before in some of the game sub-forums.
I think an email or two to users about the changes would have really made a difference.

Just changing everything like that, especially in the beta shape it's in... Not very professional, IMO.

bleclair: Fun to watch all my posts get low ratings.

Like I give a shit about silly internet points. Here's another post; have at it! :-)
k, why are you still here? You're done with GOG, why aren't you on the Steam forums or elsewhere? EDIT: Fair edit above, but c'mon...

Okay, had a long post here but you know what, never mind.

Those of you that like GoG still and the direction they are going, well, different strokes for different folks.

We'll just agree to disagree.

(And I have left... as a customer. Still interested in this topic though.)

It would have been nice to be warned so I could save the box art before they took it away forever..

And I'd prefer a list with no pictures at all on a single webpage to the slow-loading 3-page mess that's there now.
Why should it take longer to load 1/3 of my games than it did to load all of them with the previous software?
