Personal Nightmare, a supernatural horror adventure from Horrorsoft (you have to know how to make horrors with a name like this) will chill you to the bones with a 60% discount for the next 24 hours.

A strange letter from your father, a pastor of a small village, makes you return to your old family home, only to find that he is missing and all the townsfolk are unwelcoming and acting odd. Soon you discover that evil forces have taken over the village and you need to find a way to stop this madness. Personal Nightmare is definitely an old Gem (1989) but not a rusty one. Although you cannot expect too much flare from graphics and sound, once you get sucked into the storyline and chilling atmosphere, expect some decent scares and a wicked twist.

This is a game for both horror enthusiasts and adventure fans. An oldie but a goodie from the GOG.com collection, Personal Nightmare is highly recommended for only $2.39 until 10.59 AM GMT on 3 May 2012.

grviper: As it is common among the 80s games the Amiga version looks way better http://www.lemonamiga.com/games/details.php?id=830
Yeah, EGA game and all... the Mobygames screenshot page shows the differences quite well:

To me personally, more important is that the PC version lacks sound. I played the GOG version some yesterday evening, and the only sound I heard was that scratchy laughter in the intro. Then again, I would have hated if the PC version had some beeper music, silence is better.

Anyway, the game reminds me a bit of Uninvited, a horror adventure game that I liked a lot on Amiga. So I might actually play this, for nostalgia and stuff.

I didn't know there was a Windows (3.x) version of Uninvited which looks vastly superior to the Amiga version. I'd really like to get my hands on that.

Woot! Thanks. :) I remember that too from the ICOM Simulations games, but my personal favourite over Deja Vus and Shadowgates was Uninvited, due to the horror theme.

About Personal Nightmare: I'll give it one plus for the world not being static. The clock ticks all the time, you see people come and go even if you stand by etc. The world seems to live around you, a bit like I remember being the case in The Last Express (available in GOG), and possibly Darkseed IIRC.

gameon: You mention the last express aswell. Whats that like?
Not a horror game, if that's what you are after. I mentioned only because (IIRC) it also creates the illusion that the world does not revolve around you and only waits for your next action, like most adventure games.

Not horror. You are in the last Orient Express before the outbreak of WW1 and have to deal with some international intrigue, spying, theft and murder. The experience is quite railroaded, but you can roam train cars and observe what different people do in real time, hoping to hear useful info or steal items.
