I have had issues like that normally it was because of missing dependencies...
Try to launch it from the console to see if it throws any error message.
Funny shit is that even on Windows GOG games have missing dependencies. For example the correct DirectX
I ended up saying to hell with it, and launching windows versions with wine.

Are we talking about Wasteland 1 or 2?

Just to check you did do "sudo apt-get install" in the terminal and installed all required dependencies listed on the GOG game page right?

First one, and not yet.

Well then that would be likely why it was not working.

If you haven't solved the issue yet (excluding Wine), can you tell me which version of Ubuntu are you using (Kubuntu, Xubuntu, etc) and is it 32bit or 64bit?

Also, did you download the debian (.deb) or the tarball (.tar.gz) file to install the game?

32 bit ubuntu 14.10, haven't done much of anything to solve it yet as I've been sick so been too lazy to try.

I got the debian file.

Ok,

1) open the terminal and paste this link as it is: cd '/opt/GOG Games/Wasteland 1 - The Original Classic'

2) type: ./start.sh

If the game doesn't run this way, please copy and paste to me the entire terminal log. We'll get it working in no time.

Could you try to start the game directly from the executable and paste the log here? You do this by using the commands as described before and then run "./game/bin/Wasteland" (might be slightly different).

Hey, sorry. Was out the whole day.

I've tested Ubuntu 14.10 with this game yesterday, the distro already comes with all the necessary dependencies as I was able to run the game just by booting Ubuntu in live cd mode.

Try running the start.sh file in terminal again but this time as root: sudo ./start.sh

If all else fails you can try to download the tarball version and try to run that, personally I prefer using tarballs, I have more control over the file contents in general.
