Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

TheTomasz: We have added online statuses in Friends Activity on Game View, so you will be able to check who you can play the game with nearly immediately.
I have a suggestion for this, you should sort by online status first... put those online at the top so it easier to view and then sort by time played as a secondary sort. Maybe even add some AJAX (if not already doing so) so it can refresh on the fly without a full page refresh.

So, I ran into this weird problem today when starting up GOG Galaxy . I got a "GOG Galaxy couldn't connect" fatal error message, so I tried starting GOG Galaxy up manually. Then I got a "GOG Galaxy is missing essential components" fatal error message. I tried starting GOG Galaxy again and got the same message, but the third time I started GOG Galaxy it started up normally.

Anyone know what is the cause of the message? I'm especially curious since GOG started working without me having to actually reinstall anything, something I didn't expect would happen since the message said I had to reinstall GOG Galaxy. Could the recent update have caused this?
Due to security concerns, I use a standard windows account (without administrator rights) for my everyday gaming and internet use. GOG Galaxy usually runs just fine in the background along with my Steam and Battle.net clients without any problems. However, GWENT received an update today, and GOG Galaxy attempted to automatically download and install it. This lead to no less then five separate requests for administrator rights (four for various MS C++ runtime libraries, one for GWENT itself), which interrupted an ongoing (Steam) online match by minimizing the game and bringing the authorization request to the front multiple times.

GOG Galaxy, as well as GWENT itself are installed outside of windows' protected program files folder in a self-created folder named C:\Games, so no admin rights should be necessary at all for accessing/installing updates.
I assume the admin rights are needed to create the desktop shortcut inside C:\Users\Public\Desktop, which indeed does require admin rights. This is kinda annoying by itself, because I want the desktop shortcut on my account's desktop ONLY, not on the desktop of every user of my PC (including my girlfriend who doesn't play any of my GOG games at all).

Please consider to create the desktop shortcuts for the current logged in windows user only, not inside the public folder, or give us an options in the settings menu to choose between.

Also, rerunning C runtime installers with every update is completely unnecessary, please consider to change this to a one-time only event during/after the initial installation.

I really like GOG Galaxy and your visions for it (youtube.com/watch?v=nyYW9AOWh-8 ), but this mentioned aspect regarding admin rights for game updates are handled better by steam and battle.net - not once was I ever disturbed for an automatic update running in the background using those clients.

Apart from that, thanks for your hard work.

I've been getting the same error message for a while, and multiple reinstallations haven't solved the issue:
whenever I try starting the client, it will either take a couple minutes before it even appears, or it will try updating but then stay stuck at 100% on "updating...".

I then receive an error message saying there was a problem and that I should download the latest version (which I already have).

I'm guessing it might be an issue with my registry keys, but I'm not sure which ones to edit or which values to change them to (or which ones to add, in case some are missing).

While I will usually still be able to get the client to run (eventually), it takes several minutes each time, which is fairly annoying.

It would help us to fix this issue if you would submit a ticket at https://mantis.gog.com and attach your logs (instructions are provided on the linked page)
Hello!

I don’t know if someone else already asked this question, but I would like to know why Galaxy seems to be unable to import game folders or even recognize games that were installed using the offline installers.

I already had this happen several times. Two that I remember and just installed recently are Sang-Froid: Tales of Werewolves and The Witcher: Enhanced Edition.

I just installed Witcher and Galaxy tells me it can’t find anything in the game folder. For Galaxy to work with Wicther I would need to uninstall Witcher again, reinstall it via Galaxy, which means I have to download 9 GB of data with my rather slow connection again... This is rather annoying.

Is there any reason why Galaxy simply does not recognize several GOG games that were installed using the offline installer?

Thanks for your help.

I have 3 options for you:

1. Top-left menu icon -> scan & import -> choose parent folder of where the game is installed to

2. Library -> The Witcher: Enhanced Edition (go to Game View) -> MORE -> Manage installation -> "Import folder..." -> choose folder of your game

If those 2 didn't work, then something is wrong with the installed game instance, or Galaxy Client have some problem on your machine (you can file a Mantis report with logs).

3. Library -> The Witcher: Enhanced Edition -> INSTALL -> Choose parent folder of your game folder.

Check if it starts to install inside the same folder, or it creates new one with similar name. If it's the same folder - it should download just the differences (or nothing :) ). If it's different folder, you might cancel the installation, rename your full installation game folder to one that Galaxy created and try again.

Thanks! I’m going to try #3. I already tried the first two, both of which did not work. I only get the standard “No game found” pop-up message in both cases. I’ll let you know if #3 works, and I’ll file a report if it doesn’t.

Edit:

So... I went for option 3, started the Galaxy download and the folder name is different.

Offline installer: The Witcher Enhanced Edition Director's Cut

Galaxy installer: The Witcher Enhanced Edition

I renamed the folder to the Galaxy version and Galaxy downloads a difference of well over 400 MB. The installation/update/whatever process worked in the end.

400 MB isn’t just a minor difference. Is the Galaxy version actually different from the offline installer? 400 MB for cloud saves functionality? Wow!

The offline installer size is 8.4 GB, the Galaxy installer size is 9.6 GB.

Galaxy says: version 1.5(A), the offline installer says version 2.0.0.12...

These inconsistencies of file versions, file size differences etc. are really confusing and kind of frustrating.

Hi I have a small, or BIG problem. So, I participated in Closed Beta of Gwent. It was told that if you played CLosed Beta you will receive an email with code for a Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. And i did not received any email yet. What should I do?

P.S I logged to GOG every day
Found an issue with getting Galaxy to recognise updated games. New patches were released for a couple of the games in my library, and Galaxy displayed the update indicator as usual. However, after downloading the standalone patches and using them to update the games (rather than running the updates through Galaxy), Galaxy wouldn't recognise that the games had been updated to the latest version. Re-running 'Scan and import folders' didn't work, and I can't find a way to do it for individual games through the 'Manage installation' menu.

I eventually fixed the issue by deleting the 'galaxy.db' and 'index.db' files from C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage and then re-opening the program. However, it should really be possible to scan for updated game .exe's within the client itself.
May I ask where the FAQ is for how to move GOG Galaxy-installed games from one computer to another (from Windows 7 to 10, new motherboard, processor, and boot drive) without having to re-download them? Is it as simple as installing GOG Galaxy on the new machine, then pointing the program to the installed game folders and having Galaxy do its magic (please say yes)? ;-) Uplay works like that at least from AC 4 Black Flag on (which came out late 2013--no luck with FC3, Blood Dragon, or AC Brotherhood). With UPlay you still have to provide your backed up save games.

Basically, I only have a new motherboard/CPU and boot SSD with windows 10 in this machine, otherwise all the storage is the same, so it makes sense to avoid re-downloading stuff if possible. I backed up my Windows user profile before from the old boot drive (I assume that's where save games are kept) so I should be able to pop them into a directory once everything else is in place and have it all work, right?

Yes, that should handle it! If it doesn't, using the Scan and Import Folder command definitely will. Note that your new copy of Galaxy, not knowing any better, will scan all your games to see if they're up to date. This is harmless but time-consuming if you have a lot of games.

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't relishing having to re-download The Witcher 3. ;-)
Having an issue here...

Since the last Galaxy update, usually 2 minutes after closing Galaxy, I'll get a windows pop up saying something along the lines of "Galaxy Communication Service has stopped." This shows up in taskmanager, and does stay open after the rest of Galaxy's services have closed.

Anyway, starting yesterday, Galaxy no longer connects. When running it, nothing happens for a couple of minutes before starting in (presumably) offline mode. Turning off my antivirus (Webroot) allows it connect and open normally, so naturally I'm trying to whitelist it in the firewall/allowed programs/whatever. I've done this for the 4 main .exe's in the GOG Galaxy folder; GalaxyClient, GalaxyClient Helper, GalaxyClientService and GOG Galaxy Notifications Renderer but this hasn't fixed the issue.

Are there any other services that should be whitelisted? I'm not seeing any blocks for it in my firewall or quarantine but since shutting down Webroot allowed it to work properly, it's clearly the culprit.

I did try a reinstall yesterday and that didn't solve the issue either.

Edit: here's the errors I'm seeing http://imgur.com/RuZj9pp

Double Edit: Got the connection fixed; still have that error about "Galaxy Services has stopped working" a few minutes after exiting galaxy, but that's no big deal.
