BKGaming: If you have preview updates enabled still, I think it will still say beta...
avatar
armitom: I unchecked the "test upcoming updates" option on settings and relaunched and it doesn't say beta anymore
So yeah, you are right :)
Ok that is strange IMHO if you have no Beta version installed there shouldn't be BETA written on it.
(Preview updates activated) would be better.

Btw is anyone having this problem: The friend list always appears on the top left after restarting Galaxy => the friend list position is only remembered for the currently running process.

Edit: checked mantis this has been reported since v.1.1.1 >_>

Didn't you say that this update would contain customization options for the FPS counter and such... I don't see any. Or is that in the next update? Thanks.

EDIT:

I see you said " in the next updates" so I guess that means 1.2.7 or 1.2.8 will get this... that's cool then. Sorry. xD

yongra: I cannot connect. I just got updated to 1.2.6 and it keeps on saying cannot connect to GOG Service and GOG Galaxy shutdown.
I have one computer that has no trouble at all and another that does, and exhibits this exact same behavior. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled Galaxy to no avail. BTW, only one computer connected at a time to gog.com.

When I try to start the GalaxyCommunication service manually, I get the following logged in the Windows Event Viewer:
Log Name: System
Source: Service Control Manager
Date: 4/25/2017 11:57:55 AM
Event ID: 7000
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: ASROCK3
Description:
The GalaxyCommunication service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.\

Running Build 15063.138 of Windows 10 Pro v1703 if that helps. Remember, it is working fine in my Windows 10 Home computer, same version and build.

Just tried a third computer. That installation of GOG, just like with the first computer updated itself to the latest version by itself. It works fine now also. Here's the twist: the troubled computer told me to download the latest version of Galaxy from the website. I did. I installed it on top of the older installation. It is not working now.

Update: This problem is not going away. I suspect there's a problem in the registry.

I see it in overlay mode (link to present supported games in OP)

Yes I know it's in the overlay, but that's not what I am referring to... many of us were hoping to be able to customize it to show even when the overlay is not open. Venom said a day or two ago customization options would be in the next patch but I don't see anything different than what is was in 1.2.5 unfortunately.

EDIT:

Actually he said " in the next updates", so it may come in 1.2.7 or 1.2.8 then... xD

:Probably a stupid question:How do you enable cloud save for a GOG game? or does it do automatically if you open the game in Galssy?
And does the Galaxy browser automatically update to the latest version?
avatar
pigulici: So, I must uninstall old version <snipah>

Seems to work a-ok nao. Looks identi-similar to before, tho-tho.

It's usually enabled by default if a game supports cloud saving. To check whether a supported game has cloud saving active, go to the game in question in Galaxy, click "More" then select "Settings" from the the "More" drop down menu and you should see the cloud saving setting there.
Mmm... my performances are worse than before with the Overlay enabled.
In The Witcher 3 I have a lot of stuttering and the cloud saving is very slow.

For now I think I will not use the Overlay.

Is anyone else experiencing issues with the install process after the update? It always fails during the DirectX setup. I tested three games so far: Fallout Tactics Classic, Jade Empire and Mount & Blade (running Galaxy as admin).

Edit: A warning pops up saying "invalid command line option".

I am not sure but perhaps running Galaxy as admin may have something to do with it? Can you try to reproduce the problem without running Galaxy as admin, please?

Just trying to eliminate variables with my suggestion :)

Erm, not all the games listed as having overlay support actually currently work with the overlay... are these awaiting manual updates by GOG or is this just a mistake/bug/etc.?

You can tell which don't work because there is no actual overlay checkbox in the game page settings.

skeletonbow: Thanks GOG for restoring the ability to configure where backups/extras downloads go to! I'm testing it out right now and if all goes according to play I'll be able to use Galaxy for downloading once again. Very much appreciated!

Indeed it would be great to have the friend list integrated directly into the main window on the right hand side similar to how the Discord chat software has it, whether it is the default or as a user configurable option to have a docked friend list. I think it would be best as an option though, so that people can choose whether they prefer it as a window or integrated into a pane of the main window.

If it were an option, I'd definitely prefer to have it integrated as a right side pane in the main UI for sure.
avatar
Loose_Control: I would also really like the option to get rid of the friendlist&chat window. The UI is nice enough for both of them to be on the main application window. I also thing the same goes for the settings window.
Yeah, on full high-definition displays and higher resolutions the client's default use of pixel based metrics to define the width of UI elements/panes and the content area itself causes a large amount of horizontal screen real estate to go wasted that could be better used.

On my main display at 2560x1600, the left sidebar only uses 300px of width when there is a lot more width available and it'd be useful if it used more and scaled the sidebar to the horizontal resolution by using a percentage of display width instead of a fixed size of 300px. The main content area is then roughly 2260px wide with 650px of unused space on each side of where the content displays, meaning that 1300px of horizontal space is unutilized which could potentially be used to hold a right hand sidebar pane where the friend list could appear, as well as increasing the size of the left sidebar.

On a 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 display, the left sidebar uses a fixed 300px width as well, and has approximately 330px of unused space on both sides of the content area. Again, that's plenty of space to provide an optional docked friend list which could be disabled by default and we could enable in settings if desired. It'd also be nice if the left side bar defaulted to using a percentage of the width rather than 300px hard coded, and also it would be nice to be able to grab a pane border and resize it to a larger or smaller size within some sensible range boundaries without having to hack the CSS files up manually.

Looking at the discord chat client, the friend list is approximately 240px wide by my measure, which includes people's avatars and some white space. It'd be nice if Galaxy had the option of a right side friend list pane that was no smaller than 240px as well, but preferrably a percentage of the screen. That's 12.5% of 1920 which seems reasonable. This would leave 460px of available width to be split 230px on each side of the content area at 1920 display width, or 1060px of wasted space still at 2560 resolution split to 530px of wasted space on each side of the content area.

So it's definitely doable and the user interface would easily be able to handle it. It could scale to the resolution of the window, and if the window is resized too small, it could simply dynamically turn the friend list display off so that it looks like it does now by using responsive design techniques. Resize it back up to the point where there is enough wasted horizontal space and you get the friend list pane visible again if you turned it on in settings.

I really hope they make such an option available in the future as it'd be one more value-add that Galaxy has over the Steam client which does not have a panelized friend list either, and users that do not want it or do not even use the friend list feature wouldn't get it by default anyway so it'd be of no consequence to them that the feature is present. Some of the other non-Steam clients do have a friend list pane integrated into their UI and it works nicely. :)

I've attached 3 screen grabs to demonstrate for GOG and others. The first two are screen crops taken at 2560 and 1920 width display sizes to show just how much pixel real estate is wasted, and the third shot is a mockup I made to demonstrate how an integrated friend list would look at 1920 display width. It'd be nice to be able to customize the colour scheme to make it match the left side pane's dark theme, but the shot demonstrated that an integrated friend list would be nice for people that would like to have it as an option, and there is certainly enough space for it. Bonus points if they implement it and allow the pane sizes to be adjusted by the user using a grab bar.

I've added a feature request to the Galaxy wishlist, so if others would like to see this as an available optional feature in the future please vote for it:
