necrofile: Is Galaxy no longer optional? I can no longer find links to download my games without Galaxy. When it was first introduced it was stated that Galaxy would be optional. If that is no longer the case then I will no longer do business with GoG.
Yes it is still optional. They just moved the links. Click on the game in your library and you will see a big blue button to install via Galaxy. Below that you will see "Download Offline Backup Game Installers". Click the arrow and a drop down will appear containing the offline installers.
TL;DR How does one use Galaxy as a backup engine for purchased games.

I like my have my purchased games downloaded and stored locally. Currently, I simply download them via GOG Downloader and keep them on my NAS. However, this makes updating already downloaded games a chore. I was curious if Galaxy helps in that aspect...

More specific questions:

1. Can Galaxy download an update incrementally (that is, not to download the whole package but figure out what assets it already has on disk)?

2. Does it care about package consistency (i.e. my current version on disk has setup_foobar_1.2.3.4.exe; if the updated package has setup_foobar_5.6.7.8.exe instead, will Galaxy be smart enough remove the previous .exe file?)

3. Is there a way to download one platform, all platforms or some platforms (e.g. I want to have a backup copy of Windows and Linux versions but not both)

4. Is there a way for Galaxy to automagically monitor which locally backed up games need an update and initiate such updates.

Thanks in advance!

Those links install Galaxy.

Edit: I was mistaken. It added the games to Galaxy and launched it after install but I can run them without it. Apologies.

Hi everyone,

is it possible to keep the game installer after galaxy has finished downloading it, i.e. Is the installer temporarily stored somewhere? I would like to backup the installer but I don't feel like downloading it again.

Thx in advance

Galaxy does not download the offline installers by default. It downloads the game files directly, and unpacks them onto the hard-drive.

However, you can go to your library, click on the game, click MORE -> Backup & Goodies, and download the offline installer likes those found on the site. Manually run the installer and then if needed import the folder. Hopefully GOG adds a native backup feature at some point in the future.
where do you get game hints. in the old days sierra had a hint board you could dial up
Having kind of a weird issue, all my games are downloading at full speed in Galaxy, except Xenonauts which is downloading at a crawl (like 0.1 or 0.2 MB/s). It's weird. As soon as I move another game up to the top of the queue it shoots back up to full speed (around 5.0 MB/s).
Hi how do we change our profile pictures with the new update?

Along these lines, I just picked Ziggurat up for free (thanks, GOG). I noticed that a large blue "Download with GOG Galaxy" button is quite prominent, and I had to search for the game files. I noticed that such is the case for several other games that were not previous on Galaxy. Is this a transition to having Galaxy associated with every game out there and, eventually, making it impossible to avoid? It certainly seems to be heading in that direction.

This change is related to our recent introduction of web installers. You can read more about it in its topic. In particular, here:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/introducing_web_installers_for_all_gog_games/post1
and here:

TL;DR: web installers replace the Galaxy-bundled installers. The "classic" offline installers are not going anywhere :) You can find them in the dropdown below the big blue button (click "Download offline backup game installers").

Thank you for this explanation. Would it be possible for announcements such as this to be placed in the vertical scrolling marquee in the lower-left section of the main page? Many of us would appreciate that, with links to the appropriate forums. Otherwise, we're just sort of caught off-guard in a very off-putting way.

No offense intended. Simply a request.

TheTomasz: We are working on a fix, it will be probably released next week.
We're a little late on that aren't we? Good thing you went with probably. :P
GOG Galaxy is deleting my shortcuts in the start menu and replacing them with shortcuts to open GOG Galaxy rather than the game directly.

Personally I think this is crossing the line with intrusiveness. The reason I buy from GOG is so I don't have to have a "client" running all the time.
