People should know what DRM-Free means before posting this stuff, not only the OP doesn't make sense but it's also full of false accusations.

Well, I don't use Steam (don't even have an account), so can't actually related, but I can understand, to an extend, your train of thoughts.
As far as I know you don't have to play the games from the client (though I have no idea how the "achievements" thing works), so you could still use it just for downloading/ updating.

Perhaps you could try GOG Galaxy on a better day, or if you're sure it's nth for you, forget about it, forget about this thread and carry on like you did before on GOG; no reason to keep beating up yourself, just enjoy playing your games.

Just what the fuck do you suggest as an alternative business model then? Maybe GOG should just ditch accounts and trust people to download only what they've paid for?

The games, derpy. It's the games that have to be DRM-free. Not the fucking client.
