Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

Hi everyone,

we've released the 0.7 version a couple of minutes ago, here's the changelog:

- Back/Forward navigation in the Store section
- Import Folder - it is now possible to import a game which is not compatible with the client, by clicking the game in the Library section and choosing ‘Import Folder’ from the More dropdown
- Startup page option - it is now possible to decide if the client should start on LIBRARY page, STORE page, or continue previous session
- Search option - you can press enter in the search field to continue searching in the Store
- Option to Show Game Folder added to MORE menu
- New sidebar sorting options (sort by name)
- External links will now be forwarded to the system browser
- Wishlist option added to the LIBRARY menu
- Community option in the STORE menu
- Forum Replies option in the ACCOUNT menu
- Option to keep saves, when uninstalling a game
- Windows: starting the client when another instance is already running should now open the running instance (rather than displaying error message)
- Improved ‘Last Played’ information, which should now show the time of the user stopped playing the game, rather than started playing the game
- Fixed uninstallation issues on Windows
- Fixed an issue which prevented using Paypal, when buying a game
- Fixed an issue which prevented from displaying Terms and Agreements when registering new account
- Fixed some issues when installing and uninstalling DLCs

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Is Galaxy still joined with games?
I'd like to have a look at the standalone program.
(even if last versions weren't compatible with my ancient pc)

tostaszewicz: It seems that beta release will be correlated with Witcher 3 release (May 19).

I noticed that Galaxy client for games that I played more than month ago sticks label "Not yet played". More accurate should by something like: "Played more than month ago".
This seems to reset with every update. I had games I played the day before an update getting the not yet played status after.

That's a bug of course that will be fixed :)

dragonyu: Seen achievements are same as Steam, can we sync achievement to Galaxy?
That is a fantastic idea!
So far so good, not sure what is on the agenda for features that are still planned but a ability to manually sort your library would be nice.

As for nitpicks so far it would be nice that when I change the default Dosbox on some of the Dos games(so I can use things like Composite CGA or Roland MT music in my games) that the GOG client doesn't just automatically "update" them back to the default it's done that to me like 5 times already with Ultima 2,3, 6 and Underworld 1 and 2.

Oh and if it's possible could you make it easier to download games that you for whatever reason just stick into the extras like the Dos version of Wizardry 7, the classic versions of Broken Sword 1 and 2 or Outcast classic. It just seems silly to have to click on the game and then click download extras to download a version of a game, why not just make them separate entries like they often are on Steam?
I know you can't do that for Alone 2 and 3 but I don't get the Dos version of Wizardry 7 and some of the others.
I hope the upcoming beta will feature at least profiles, achievements and friendlist.

Aleenik: Any word on when the next batch of invites will be sent out? :)

Destro: Between mid-week and a week after. It will be sometime around the next alpha build release - which very likely will be also the last alpha before we go into beta mode (and yes, we do have some new stuff planned for the beta if anyone's wondering :)
Thanks for the response! I look forward to testing out the client.

Achievements is the last thing I want here how would you want this functional with the old DOS games?

You also know that - if GOG ever does this - would mean that the games are tied more or less to the Galaxy client?

I can imagine that GOG provides an API layer to hook into steam achievements to reduplicate them here, but this would also mean that the Galaxy client will be mandatory for playing the games and this will cost the company a big chunk of their userbase if they ever try to do that.
Achievements will be optional. Nothing to worry about : )

No. Achievements can be either tied to the game, or tied to a client. Even if the achievements are tied to a client, it is possible that the game doesn't require the client to run. There may be a problem getting the client to recognize game based achievements, but that is game dependent.
I am sorry if I sound retarded but I never managed to make the client show up and work.

I was part of the alpha when GOG Galaxy launched and since then I am wondering what I did wrong.

I become more curies now because I found some nice and nifty program called www.launchbox-app.com/, its a:
"Portable Box-Art-Based Games Database and Launcher for DOSBox, Emulators, and PC Games"

If anyone tried both of the programs I would like to know how GOG Galaxy compares to this program.

If no one tried then I would like some tip to make the client work at my PC so I can compare them myself.
My last usage of it was when installing AvP and trying to make the Galaxy program to run - but nothing happend.

Thanks for your time guys!

When you say you were part of the Alpha when GOG Galaxy launched, do you mean back when AVP was given for free? If yes, then, that was not the Alpha, but merely a component of the Galaxy client, responsible for the online multiplayer.

If you are still interested in the Alpha, you can sign up here. You might have to wait some days (or even weeks), though.

Thanks for the info... For some reason though, I do remember applying to the alpha via this very page.
Maybe I am just not part of the lucky ones that was chosen to test it.
