1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

Venom: As you've said, only a few games are not yet compatible with Galaxy, and usually it's due to an issue that requires extensive engineering to build a workaround. All new games that arrive on GOG.com are of course compatible with Galaxy.
You should be a bit more careful with your wording here. Being "Galaxy compatible" can mean (or at least be interpreted as) anything from "can be (un)installed with Galaxy" to "has Galaxy Multiplayer/Matchmaking/Crossplay/Achievements/...".

What would be nice is if you guys could offer a configuration option as to where to put temporary files and perhaps default it to %TEMP% but allow the user to override it to somewhere else. Knowing there's a potential workaround is good to tide things over for a future update with the goodies you indicated are being worked on though. :)

To be honest, I'm surprised that you know enough about Windows to know junction points yet you have never heard about the temporary directory. :-)

That's the place where all Windows programs are supposed to store (and delete, once they are finished with it) temporary files. And as you can imagine many programs aren't very good at cleaning up behind them and the directory gets bigger and bigger over time unless you clean it up yourself.

Programs are supposed to get the location of the temporary directory from the environment variable and it is of course possible to set it to a different directory on a different harddrive. Not through a shell though because setting environment variables in a shell will only change them for this shell, IIRC.

Go to "Control Panel/System and Security/System" and click on "Advanced System Settings". Go to the "Advanced" tab and there you will find a button named "Environment Variables". Click that and you can change the environment variables that are set for your logged in user and globally for the system (provided you have admin priviliges) to your hearts content. You should be careful with what you are doing here though if you don't want to screw up your system royally.
So, I've noticed that Galaxy notifies you in-game about achievements now.

The pop-up window is absolutely disgusting. It's too big and dis-attached from the actual game. Even U-play pop-ups are better and less screen-invading.

I can't imagine this being implemented the way it is right now in the official release.

I'm well aware of the temporary directories that Windows uses. What actually uses one of the particular temp directories and for what purpose is up to a given software developer however. With the Witcher 3 patch there was absolutely zero user visible/identifyable reason for the patch to fail, and no indication that the C: drive was being used at all.

I don't want to change the location of the TEMP directory for the entire operating system. In this case I would want to change the location of it for a single invocation of a single 3rd party executable, much like you would do the following in Linux:

TEMP=/some/other/directory ProgramToRunOnceUsingTheOtherTempDirectory

or in a shell script:

#!/bin/bash
TEMP=/some/other/directory
ProgramToRunOnceUsingTheOtherTempDirectory


The Windows equivalent of that basically. In order to know the workaround for the problem being encountered is to redirect the TEMP directory elsewhere you have to first know that that is what the problem is with the app in the first place. That was not previously known until Destro provided the information.

I wasn't about to run the Witcher patch inside a debugger to figure out what was going wrong, I'm not being paid for that level of digging into things.
So, I downloaded the installer files for Wasteland 2 Director's Cut from GOG.com instead of Galaxy, as that appears to use far less data (so much less harsh on my data cap). However, when I opened Galaxy to add it, it said there was a 7+GB patch it needs to download. I aborted that, and downloaded the patches from the website, then installed them. But Galaxy still says it needs to download the 7GB update. Is there any work around for this, or are the patches from the website out of date?

I have it on manual updates now, but there's that big blue dot there, taunting me.

[Edit] Reading posts from a few days ago, this seems to be a known issue. Guess I'll just keep it as-is.

You could try to use the following tool by alka_setzer. Apparently the issue is the installers don't update Galaxy's table data. Have not had a chance to try it myself yet, but if you do try it let us know how it goes.

I'm thinking about trying Galaxy. I'm only interested in using it to install and update my games when I want. I don't care about achievements, etc..

Does Galaxy modify the game exe?

I'm planning to install several Morrorwind mods and AFAIK it's a problem if the exe has been modified?

If I use Galaxy to install my games, does it have to be running to play them?

I'd like to be able to start and play my games WITHOUT Galaxy running in the background on my old machine. Is this possible?

Yeap. If you want to install on more than one machines though, it might be preferable to download the stand alone installers and install through those. That may be preferable either way, since the installers are compressed, while Galaxy downloads uncompressed files, at least for now.

I ask because I'm running an ancient single core P4 2GB RAM 32bit Win 7 PC until I can get a new system.

No idea. I'm currently downloading and installing some games through it, and task manager reports <3% CPU usage and ~20MB memory usage. The GalaxyClientHelper service though (all 3 instances of it) seems to take ~100MB of RAM as well.
So I have a question here about the installing, using GOG Galaxy.

If you use 'galaxy' to check your library, and then click 'install' it will download from GOG.com, the game files, and install.

However, my question is, can I tell it to use the installer I've already downloaded?

I spent about four hours downloading the 'x' series I just got from the fall sale, and I don't wish to have GOG galaxy re-download them just to install.
I would like to tell 'galaxy' where I downloaded the files, and use those to install.

Can GOG Galaxy do this?

If not, can it be updated to do this? I download/backup all my GOG library games, for when I chose to install/play them.
