It used to be quiet in the small, medieval town of Bourne Of Old Krampus.

Sadly, the town had been seeing an alarming increase in the murder rate in recent months. The assassin's guild had experienced a split at some point, and the war was finally reaching this peaceful place. The residents demanded the town council do something, so a small mercenary group was hired to help deal with the problem. Things quieted down a little more after that, though not to the level the old men in rocking chairs claimed existed back when they were young.

The tensions bubbling below the surface suddenly exploded last night. Fires broke out in the Foreigner's Quarter; there was mayhem and rampant rioting in the streets. The militia were rapidly mustered and had their hands full just keeping the violence contained to the Quarter. Very, very few people were still alive come morning.

There are guards all along the walls surrounding the Quarter. The mayor has issued a sharp decree that until things settle right the heck down, you lot are on your own. Lieutenant Bler has been assigned to maintain the strict quarantine, deal with minor issues, and make sure no one else can go on a rampant killing spree. Adaliabooks, a minor bureaucrat looking quite the worse for wear, has been assigned to act as your liaison with the outside world if such is necessary. Several of you would have sworn you saw his corpse last night, but he seems to be moving around, albeit stiffly.

The mistrust in the air is palpable, especially after the noose and chair were placed to deal with anyone the majority accused of breaking the peace. The mayor has declared that you only get out if everyone comes to a consensus that they'll keep the peace, though he'll accept two consecutive days and nights of non-violence as tacit consent.

-----

General Rules:
1. Cryptoclaiming is strictly forbidden. This is claiming or otherwise passing information in some sort of unbreakable code. Don't do it. If in doubt, ask.

2. Betting among players is strictly forbidden.

3. I, Bookwyrm627, am the Moderator of this game. My word is law. Adaliabooks and Bler144 are assistant moderators. Their word is law.

4. If you have a question, send one of the mods a PM. Alternatively, bold your question in the game thread. If you PM an assistant mod, and they aren't sure about the answer, then direct the question to me. If I haven't answered within a day, then give me a PM poke. If I haven't answered in 2 days, then I'm probably dead, and you guys should elect one of the assistant mods to take over. I suggest Bler, since Adalia is always scum.

5. The roles were distributed randomly. I have done all of the dice rolling I'm going to do this game. The rest is up to the lot of you.

6. All players have a vote, which they may place on any player, including themselves, or which they may place on No-Lynch. A vote may be withdrawn by unvoting. You may not change your vote without first unvoting. This is absolute. Votes will be ignored if they weren't preceded by an unvote.

7. All votes must be bolded, like this: Unvote Bookwyrm627, Vote adaliabooks. This is absolute. Votes will be ignored if they aren't bolded.

8. Once a player acquires more than 50% of the votes, the player is lynched. Nothing will prevent a player from being lynched once he has received more than 50% of the votes. Likewise, if No-Lynch receives more than 50% of the votes, there will be no lynch. First come, first served when determining who gets lynched.

9. If the deadline is reached and there is no clear majority, then a No Lynch occurs.

10. The next deadline will occur roughly 6 days from when dawn starts a new Day.

11. When you are dead, you are dead. Stop posting. One “bah” post is permitted and encouraged once you've received a link to the observer thread. Your "bah" post should have no useful information.

12. Don't edit your posts. This is important. This is so important that your score is tied to this. For each edit that is judged to be unintentional, points will be deducted from your score. Increasing numbers of mistakes will incur increasingly large penalties: the first mistake will cost you one point, the second mistake will cost you two points (cumulative with the penalty from the first mistake), the third mistake will cost three points (total of -6), and so on. In addition, do not make two posts within 10 minutes of each other, or the forum software will merge them, creating the appearance of an edited post. TO be safe, if your post is the most recent post in the game thread, then wait until the timer on that post says 11 minutes. Be wary of the "New Page" bug when deciding whether it is safe to post.

12b. If you deliberately edit a post, you will be modkilled and your score will be set to -3. This will place you at the bottom of the leaderboard, period. This is your only warning. An exception may be made if a mod specifically requests (or grants) you permission to edit a post in a specific way. If you don't have that permission in hand BEFORE you edit, then you're toast.

13. Don't discuss the game with anyone outside of the game thread, except where/when you are permitted to do so by your PM.

14. All players should post at least once every 36 hours. Let's try to keep the game thread more or less alive during the Day, shall we? If you need to be away for a day or more, please let me know so we can work something out.

15. You ARE allowed to quote your PM as much or as little as you wish! Just keep in mind that there is one or more someones in the game who would have an easier time if you were dead, and careless quoting may tip them off.

16. The purpose of this game is to have fun! Please do not take anything said as personal. If someone is being rude, vote for them and convince the rest of the players to lynch them.

---

Scoring:
1. Everyone will have their own personal objectives; each member on a team will have the same objectives as their teammates, there are no traitors. In a sense, everyone is a neutral survivor. It is up to you to select who you are willing to trust, and to reevaluate your alliances as the game progresses.

2. Every living player earns a two point "Living Bonus" at the dawn of each Day. Teams will only earn 1 point, but they earn that point as long as at least one team member is alive at dawn.

3. Unlike vote counts, the mods will not be providing a running tally of points during the game; it is your job to track this during the game. You will have (or be able to attain) all of the information necessary to keep an accurate total of your points. I'll post the scoreboard at the end of the game; if you think a posted score is inaccurate, you may present your reasoning and ask for a recount.

4. If a player is killed and then revived, they may continue trying to earn points for their objectives as normal. However, they will no longer earn the Daily 2 point Living Bonus. Also, any objectives that specifically target that player will only be worth half the normal number of points.
Ex. Bler is alive, so he gets the Daily 2 points and is worth full value if one of my objectives is to kill him. Adalia has been killed and revived, so he no longer gets the living bonus, but he may continue to try and accomplish his objectives for full score. If one of my objectives is to kill Adalia for 6 points, then I only score 3 points if I make the kill after he has been revived.

5. The objectives are generally targeted at scoring a total of 20 points. If you earn this many points, then you may consider yourself to have won (regardless of the leader board).

6. There is a nominal cap of 0 points at the bottom end of the scale. If you end the game with fewer than 0 points, your score will be set at 0. Edit penalties will break this cap: mistakes have a lower end cap of -2, while intentional edits set your score to -3. I'm reserving the -1 position in case I forgot something.

7. Your teammates will not be penalized for your edits. If you edit a post and they do not, then your end game score will be lower than their end game score. Other than that, your team scores as a single unit.

---

The game will end when one of the following conditions is met:
-All Living players (revived and dead players are ignored) have met their win condition or are unable to meet their win condition.

-2 Day/Night cycles have passed with no one dying. This count always begins with Day: if Day 2, then Night 2, then Day 3, then Night 3 pass and no one has died, the game will end. N2, D3, N3, D4 passing with no death will result in a N4. This is primarily to prevent a group of players from just running up score off the Living Bonus.

This post is reserved for the questions and announcements that are bound to come up during the game.
==========

-For reference, I'm running on EST. Major mod actions (ex. fully opening/closing a Day, kicking off the game, daily vote count) by me are likely to occur between 7-10pm EST (midnight-3am GMT). I do tend to haunt the forums during the day (my time), and I'll try to be responsive to questions, but I may wait on the major actions if I think I need the time to put something together. I don't know why it surprised me, but flavor writing takes longer than I expected.

-To randomize the roles, I used random.org's list randomizer. The first list was everyone's user name, which was then copied into an excel document. The second list was all of the character names, copied into an adjacent column of the excel document. You got whichever role name ended up in the same row as your user name.

-Everyone is alive at the dawn of Day 1, so everyone got the Living Bonus. If you are solo (no teammates), then you have 2 points. If you are on a team (have teammates), then your team has 1 point.

-Lynches can only occur to active players. You are free to vote for a mod, a dead player, etc, but they cannot be lynched. A majority vote on an illegal target will have no effect; the deadline clock will keep running until a valid lynch is achieved or time runs out.

-Any gender references I make will refer to the player's gender (as I know it, and I think all the players are male this game). Please be advised that this disclaimer should NOT be interpreted as confirming/denying any player's claimed gender. I'm not dodging around that possible issue for the next month; flavor writing is going to take long enough as it is.

-Be wary of your assumptions.

True. Still, I have to put my random vote somewhere!

Also, I doubt the moderators are secret players, the OP is too open about their 'roles'.
Vote yogsloth just because it's not he same if I don't ;-)
Interesting notion...

Are we allowed to kill the moderators?

Also Vote flubbucket cause he's fancy.
[Vote:JMich]

He is just so scummy!

Krypsyn: [Vote:JMich]
Interesting...
More proof JMich is scum! He somehow made me screw up my bold tags!

Vote: JMich

He is a witch, burn him, burn him!
Vote Count:

Flubbucket (1) - A_F_P
