hedwards: I figured this thread deserved a bump.

Started doing my thing on the exercises a bit more seriously and finally got around to shaving and a few other healthy things.

Totally looking forward to trying shoulder stand squats and vertical pulls.

On the downside, knuckle wall push ups kind of hurt my knuckles, just not as much as doing them flat palmed would.
knuckle push up is better for wrist\hand as not damage sensitive area, flat palmed push up slowly damage wrist.

also never lower shoulders below elbow, is eventually bad for shoulder socket, no need to go chest to floor.

i am using pull up bar a lot now, i cannot do full pull ups though so i am doing negatives as well as holding myself up and bringing my knees to my chest, is good exercise.

Nice, dude. I fell off the bandwagon last week (:P), but I'm going to get swimming and walking everyday (except Saturday) until school starts. Food is a little bit too much of a temptation, but I know I HAVE to do something to counterbalance that, even unfortunately they won't equal out in the end. The tastiness just adds so much joy to watching Family Guy or South Park on my computer.

Nice to get some confirmation that my habit of stopping at that point is the wise choice. It never seemed to me to be a good idea to go beyond that point. The first day or two my knuckles were really sore when I was doing them, but they seem to be getting less sore as I go.

I'm finding that my hands are already getting a lot stronger and my fingers in particular are starting to get less bony.

The main issue I was having was that I don't have the room to keep my weights and bench out right now due to a remodel and the prospects of getting even less space in the future.

Right now I'm trying to figure out where I can do horizontal pulls and I think I've found a suitable desk that's just about the right height and strong enough to handle 200lbs., of me. I've got a few tables that are the correct height but are clearly not strong enough to do the job.

orcishgamer: Hmm, cutting down to 2 mugs of coffee is rough. I think I'll feel better for it in the end though.
look for Roobois Tea, is red African tea with zero caffeine and high in Anti-Oxidants (help prevent cancers)

i drink green tea in morning then Roobois tea during day and night, i also recently stopped taking caffeine and you come good after some days\weeks and have more energy than with caffeine.

I woke up at 6am today, did stretching and pull-ups, is usually i am very slow in morning but i think removing caffeine from diet, drinking teas and taking good protein shake has given me energy.

If doing ANY exercise invest in protein supplement\shake, is very affordable and tasty but look for ones that can be consumed multiple times a day

do some research in this, whey protein is best and protein is necessary for any muscle growth to happen, also gives slow burning energy good for the day.

Hey thanks for this, I am down to one cup a day now (during my conference earlier this week I drank more because I was running on no sleep). I have been drinking a lot of Yogi herbal and green teas (they are a local hippe brand, but smell and taste amazing). I've heard a lot about Roobios I may try it out. I think I can usually do white or green tea (my rule is green before lunch, herbal after). On hot days I make unsweetened iced tea out of it, which beats a soda any day.

I've settled on Hemp protein actually (Manitoba brand, which is Canadian as you might surmise). Whey bothers my stomach. I do usually do veggie juice (juiced every morning) for breakfast. The protein is a quick snack or lunch.

I find I have way more energy after I exercise until bedtime, I try to do it in the morning but whimp out on some days and do it after work instead.

If you enjoy reading i found book Bruce Lee's: The Art of Expressing The Human Body very interesting.

Is not written by Bruce but was written by a man who was given access to Bruce Lee's study notes and workout routines.

Is interesting and inspirational, I would not take as guide on exercise but some very useful ideas\information for further study and personal testing.

Is book that has given me addiction to forearm training, when have the money i want buy a set of Heavy Hand Grips http://www.heavygrips.com

high quality and not overly expensive but i need save for studies right now.

So there's a hippie yoga place down the road (walking distance) that does Bikram, Hot Yoga, and about a 100 other varieties I don't even recognize (or recall). For 30 bucks I can go to as many classes as I want for a month, I'm thinking I may try it out.

Coffee withdrawal is an utter bitch right now, uhg.
Yoga is actually strengthening to the body, is very good and i should start some research on basic Yoga stretches.

Flexibility is something i am starting to finally work on, combined with stretching and flexing is very awakening to body.

If you go that route make sure you choose something that's appropriate for beginners. IIRC Bikram is really not a good choice for beginners.

I pestered the lady on the phone for like 30 minutes saying I wanted beginners, because I hold no illusions that that's what I am. She claimed most of the classes were appropriate for all levels, but I just decided if I get into a class that's way too hard I'm taking a nap on my mat:)

I know the Hot Yoga is done in 110 degree room (what is that, around 40 C?). That can make it way more strenuous since you're heart rate will go way up just to compensate for the heat. I think I'll avoid that one for starters at least.

If all else fails I think there's some beginners classes over by the university and I only see young hot chicks in there (which should be motivating and embarrassing in equal measure).

FYI, just as an update, using the UFC Personal Trainer every workout day and cutting back on calories, I've lost 10 pounds in two weeks. The game actually gives a really good workout if you are serious about it, and combined with changing my eating habits, I've seen a pretty good loss of weight. I know the healthy ratio is something like 2 pounds per week, but I've done this before when I was getting in shape for the military.

You can work of a hell of a sweat on any of those Kinect exercise games. The Kinect creates a full body wireframe of you so games can track all your major limbs. I've gotten sore from just doing Dance Central (and it's fun the whole time too).

I don't recall of the UFC one has a demo, but a lot of the ones, like Biggest Loser, do. Fitness Evolved may have a demo. Essentially I think most demos will give you a single, short workout, so you can see what you're buying. Since Kinect titles go on sale more often than standard console titles you can probably score one for 30 bucks if this is something one wants to try.

I have the PS3 version since I don't have a 360. The Kinect powered one would probably be better since the leg strap doesn't always work 100% and it can have some rare problems with not registering my moves correctly, but it works 95% of the time.
