It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Last time the site went down (for the end of beta) we gave our users a free game. While we're not going to claim that this will always happen, it's true that we have another one for you guys today. But before we go into that, let's tell you about the exciting new features that we've added to GOG.com:

As announced during our presentation on CD Projekt Days Spring Conference, the update adds two highly requested by users improvements: a new downloader application and personal messages. The new downloader has been made from scratch by GOG.com developers and features multithreaded downloads for performance, automatic error checking and runs only when user is downloading something from GOG.com. The downloader is not a client application and is optional to use, although recommended for downloading big games, like i.e. The Witcher 2.

Personal Messaging, the second biggest feature of the Spring Update, is a combination of instant and private messaging. The system will have fully configurable privacy settings and just like the downloader is completely optional. Aside of those two changes, the team has introduced many various improvements to make the user experience even better - those include improved checkout system, update to work flawlessly on newest browsers and easier to use coupon system.

Finally, as the cherry on top for the Spring Update Sundae (man, we could really go for some ice cream), the we released Dragonsphere, free to all users. The game is an adventure point-and-click title by famous MicroProse and features excellent story, clever puzzles and simple yet appealing graphics. “It’s easy to lose yourself in this fresh, engaging game” according to PC Gamer. This adds to our already existing catalog of free titles, bringing the total up to five.

Have fun with the new features and enjoy your new free game (in a little bit)!

Destro: Also, what browser are you downloading this file in? Could you try using a different one and report back please?
AVG flags the file as a threat.

I'm also getting a 1.03MB file

Inside the zip, the installer file has no extension.

I'm using IE8, which is what i've always used for gog.

When I had AVG set to scan downloaded files it would...I dunno.... do "something" to files it marked as positives(even if they were false positives like with some no-cd files) that would render such files marked by AVG as unusable if marked as such by AVG.

Basically once the file is flagged by AVG(treu positive or no) it will render the file corrupt somehow(possibly a method in place to kill possible viruses in files it flags.)

Thus try disabling file checker in AVG then download again. It should work then.

Nope, disabling real time protection just disables the threat warning.

The zip file is still 1.03 MB and the file inside the zip still has no extension.

The zip file is still 1.03 MB amd the file insisde the zip still has no extension.
Did you do that AND add exe at the end and then run it?

It works on my end btw using Chrome/Iron. I could set up an alternate host on like mediafire or whatever for you and others if that would help.

Try from here...verified as working and virus free:
Gog Downloader

It's 1.03 Mb zipped and around 2mb unzipped.

KOCollins: Just used your link and it didn't work for me, I'm using the newest Internet Explorer Browser Ver 8. The Error message read: The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or Corrupted.
This is pretty weird - I've downloaded the file via IE8, clean Win7 install without even single other app installed, and still received the error message as mentioned... however when downloading the same ZIP file from the very same address via Chrome, Firefox or any other browser, it's perfectly fine and can be unzipped without any problem.

There's something very fishy going on with the IE - we'll try to figure it out tomorrow morning. And in the meantime please use other browser to grab the downloader ZIP file...

I also uploaded it to mediafire for IE users: http://www.mediafire.com/?td23otzbb90mru1

Adding the extension is useless since the file is smaller than it should be, i.e., corrupt

Your dowload link works fine, thanks. No AVG warnings (with Real Time Protection back on), the file is ok and the browser i'm using is the same, IE8.

This needs to be fixed though.

Everything is fine here with IE9.

It must be the coding of the zip file hosting site or something that dislikes IE8 for some reason.
Just a quick post to say thank you for the downloader and the free game. Everything is working fine, now all I have to do is to wait for the witcher 2 to be released, (eagerly counting down the days!).

Then put some nice Trojan in it as a bonus! :P :)

jamyskis: The messaging system sounds intriguing, not least because GOG, unlike Steam, has no noteworthy multiplayer games, and I can't say that I actually know anybody on GOG. But maybe it will develop in some kind of new and incredible direction :)

Finally, Dragonsphere looks intriguing, so I will be giving that a try later :)
*does a double-take*

What-what-what???

What in the world are you talking about? GOG carries tons of great multiplayer games. True, they don't have the same game-matching system that Steam has set up, but the GOG users have always found other means of connecting to each other.

Of course, now that we have an IM system set up for GOG, I expect that will be used for matchmaking, et cetera.
