Last time the site went down (for the end of beta) we gave our users a free game. While we're not going to claim that this will always happen, it's true that we have another one for you guys today. But before we go into that, let's tell you about the exciting new features that we've added to GOG.com:

As announced during our presentation on CD Projekt Days Spring Conference, the update adds two highly requested by users improvements: a new downloader application and personal messages. The new downloader has been made from scratch by GOG.com developers and features multithreaded downloads for performance, automatic error checking and runs only when user is downloading something from GOG.com. The downloader is not a client application and is optional to use, although recommended for downloading big games, like i.e. The Witcher 2.

Personal Messaging, the second biggest feature of the Spring Update, is a combination of instant and private messaging. The system will have fully configurable privacy settings and just like the downloader is completely optional. Aside of those two changes, the team has introduced many various improvements to make the user experience even better - those include improved checkout system, update to work flawlessly on newest browsers and easier to use coupon system.

Finally, as the cherry on top for the Spring Update Sundae (man, we could really go for some ice cream), the we released Dragonsphere, free to all users. The game is an adventure point-and-click title by famous MicroProse and features excellent story, clever puzzles and simple yet appealing graphics. “It’s easy to lose yourself in this fresh, engaging game” according to PC Gamer. This adds to our already existing catalog of free titles, bringing the total up to five.

Have fun with the new features and enjoy your new free game (in a little bit)!

FiXato: I liked being able to download the games using my Mac without wine/VM so I could play them later on

Fujek: You can still use the browser to download a GoG game, which should work just fine in most every case, shouldn't it?
Maybe but I worry about failed downloads when dealing with something as large as The Witcher 2 or the Witcher for that matter which is 9GB in itself. The downloader can resume I'm not so sure about resuming a failed several gig part via the browser. I guess I'll see when those games are released.
Awesome, thanks guys! As others have mentioned, some of the icons are a little wonky on the new tab, but I know you guys will get it straightened out soon.

Keep up the good work!
@GOG, there is an empty box bellow the buy / add to wishlist buttons?
Is it me or have GOG made it next to impossible to find the new downloader to well download. I have the link http://www.gog.com/download/GOGDownloader.0.9.0.1336.zip supplied by LordCinnamon from another forum entry but I just expected to find a link for it pretty prominently displayed on maybe the games support pages or off my account somewhere.
Ok just noticed you get a popup when you add a game to the downloader with a link to download the downloader. Still I think there needs to be a prominent link to it somewhere else for all those folks who go searching for it first. Seems counter intuitive to add your game to download with a downloader you don't have yet. Maybe it is just me.
Look forward to using the new features, thanks as always GOG!

There is...when a person now clicks download using downloader a box pops up showing info on the new downloader and a link to it as well.

Forced browser cache refresh (ctrl+f5 few times) should have fixed that. Can you please post a screenshot showing this icon problem?

Try downloading some of the bigger games on a wonky 1mbit connection... Resuming browser downloads on GoG usually failed for me..

Yes I realised that half way through typing my post "Ok just noticed you get a popup when you add a game to the downloader with a link to download the downloader. However I spent 10 minutes or so before that looking for the downloader, so I wonder how may will do the same not realising you have to select to download the game with the downloader before you get the link.

I'm just thinking about the next guy / girl / gamer that may not be reading the forums.

Destro: snip
I was wondering if you could add an option in your catalogue to buy a code for 9.99 / 5.99 game, so the buyer could send the code to the recipient, and the recipient could choose a game he/she wants.

GameRager: Actually to get the new game you might have to snag it from the catalog.
You're right. I had to click "download now" to add it to my library. Strange, but at least it works.
Also, you might have to clear your browser's cache to see the PM button when hovering over people's posts.
I swear, I did that some hours ago. Didn't work. Now I did it again ... and it works. Kind of a WTF situation.

Thanks for your help, dude.

It seems that the games Gog offered for free at the time you joined Gog are the ones you'll see in your account....to get any added for free after that you have to "buy" them.

Also, de nada. (No problem in Spanish I think)
just the update to the downloader sold this to me. not to say the previous one was horrible, but there was a lot to be improved. hopefully this one will be great. tell you what, i love this site.
Anyone has problems downloading the downloader? I got a 1MB zip file, but it seems it is corrupted.

I was just about to post re this. I cannot get to the DL to DL correctly. I get 1.03 Mb not the full 2Mb. Is there another place other than My Account to find the DL?

Also, when I try to unzip it I cannot do it. Probably because I don't have the full file.
