The biggest announcement in GOG.com's history is a fact! Electronic Arts grants access to its deep back catalogue of classic franchises via yours truly GOG.com!

In a ground-breaking, earthshaking, and jaw-dropping deal we've managed to sign with EA and will be releasing more than 25 legendary classics from the globally renowned publisher. With today’s announcement three widely known and much awaited brands get the revival treatment from GOG.com: Wing Commander: Privateer, Dungeon Keeper and Ultima Underworld 1+2.

We will be adding more than 25 titles from EA over the next few months, so the games will be unveiled gradually, but we can already reveal that the next upcoming titles from this huge deal are: Crusader: No remorse, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and Magic Carpet.

While the agreement between Electronic Arts and GOG.com brings back many acclaimed and well known franchises, it doesn’t include the much anticipated System Shock or Syndicate series at this time. After releasing the first six Electronic Arts classics, we will take a break from the concentrated awesome until later in the summer.

saluk: As the EULA only applies to EA games, it doesn't apply to GOG at large. It's a fallacy to say it does. Steam would like every game to support steamworks, but they still sell games with games for windows drm for instance (which is really annoying, to have two overlays). That doesn't mean that Valve supports games for windows and they plan to have more games for windows games on steam :P

It looks like the only way they could get EA, was to have the eula. Pretty lame, but if that's what it takes, that's what it takes. At its worst, it could open the door to have a similar EULA to get other publishers on. Does EA not realize that all of these games can be downloaded very easily off of abandonware sites? And run with dosbox? We want to have the ability to give money, but if it is shackled with legal stuff, it feels like the value is not there. We are not asking to buy chains, but to buy freedom.

GameRager: Actually I loved your post, but just wanted to say this: EULAs are on every gog game, and no i'm not talking about gog's EULA when installing. Each of those games you install is still bound to some or all of the original EULA conditions as when it was published.....you just don't see an EULA screen for the publisher when installing but most of it is still in effect regardless. EA just went one step further and wanted it SHOWN to everyone who bought the games, is all.
Which is completely illegal under German law and thus void. :)
Sometimes even this hopeless country is getting things right.

But more importantly, if the EA games come with no DRM like anything else on gog.. what difference does it make? Then it is neither controllable nor enforcable.
Thank you all so much for preserving these monuments of gaming history. I play all of these games so much and have gotten so many hours/days/years of enjoyment from them. Thank you all again!

Sincerely,
Mal
o.O
I would love to see them release Earth and Beyond on GOG. Admittedly there might not be a large call for it, but it could probably be done fairly easily for them.

Crusader and Alpha Centari have me incredibly excited.

I haven't played Crusader since I was a kid. I played it on the harder modes and got so mad because I couldn't finish the first stage. I am now good at video games so I'm really looking forward to finishing it finally.

Alpha Centari is the game that should have made it instead of Civ, IMO.

My only gripe is about Dungeon keeper being the DOS version, expansion-less and no Direct3D.
old EA can be a good thing. Wonder if this will include the westwood games?

Blade Runner on PC, anyone?
*deep bow*
I´ve a lot of old games from EA. I will love to see at least some come back thru GOG

If both System Shock come back.. well, I´ll be waiting for news...

This is the beginning of a new era for GOG ^_^
Excellent inclusion of Crusader: No Remorse!!! No more 'dosbox' emulation!! :) Hopefully to be followed by No Regret as well.

They are using dosbox, actually. They just tweak it to run optimally and strip out drm, and add their own easy installer.

Darsain: Is there any chance that "American McGee's Alice" will show up in GOG's repertoire? And - as I'm new in here - how's my change of getting an answer for this question? :)
With the sequel to Alice scheduled to be released, I would say that Yeah, EA would want to stir up some interest in it by making the original available again.

CalamityRanger: Unfortunately I think SimTower would prove tricky since if I remember correctly it didn't have a DOS version. I'd *love* to be able to play that game again though. I spent so much time on it as a kid. :P
You are right, the version of SimTower I have seems to be a 16 bit windows exe and won't run on Windows 7 x64.
Gog, please bolster your Sports category by asking EA to allow release of either Radio Baseball (the Infocom-like all text one) or even better, Earl Weaver Baseball . I want to pit the 1927 Yankees vs, the 1961 Yankees again !
Wow, I'm totally shocked GOG managed to make a deal with EA of all publishers. Also share disappointment for no System Shock, and yay for Alpha Centauri.
I'm really excited about this. I'm hoping the rest of the Ultima games get some love. I've been wanting to play through them again.
Crusader: No remorse? Seriously? Day one purchase for me, that's for sure!
