GOG.com's Agreement with Team 17 ‘Worms Up’ the Cold Days of January.

2012 will be filled with great new things coming to GOG.com, and first up, we’re expanding our catalog with some of the tremendous Team 17's classic titles.

Team 17's offerings on GOG.com start with the most lovable (and lethal) annelids of the gaming world in the unforgettable and quintessential tactical artillery shooter Worms United – a special edition of Worms 1 with the expansion Worms Reinforcements for $5.99. We’re not just giving you one game today, though. You will also want to use some heavy weaponry to fight a different kind of invertebrates--the squicky space alien kind--in Alien Breed and Alien Breed Tower Assault available now for just $5.99 as well.

Today's releases should keep you busy while we bring some more goodness from Team 17 in the next week: Superfrog and World Rally Fever: Born on the Road. We’ll be bringing you more games from their catalog later on this year.

Pick up Worms United and Alien Breed + Alien Breed: Tower Assault for just $5.99 each today on GOG.com!
Great!
I hope Nightlong gets released too.
Good to see GOG expanding its publisher stable. However, none of these games seem overly appealing to me. I guess I have more time to catch up on the titles from the Christmas/holiday promo.

yyahoo: Umm, I know Team17 did some dev work for a recent port, but to my knowledge they have no publishing or IP rights regarding the Lemmings series.
avatar
Zacron: I wonder if we could say "Hey, can we Publish THESE SPECIFIC TITLES that were originally {Publisher name}" and get permission, after all, some of the games we have here were gotten that way right? Like... Apogee Software does not exist, at least not AS Apogee, but we have several Duke/Stone games that list them as the dev/pubs.
I'm not sure what you mean. Apogee Software *does* exist. It was recreated by 3D Realms back in '08 in order to distribute old Apogee titles and dev new titles based on old Apogee IP.
Sigh ... I am a bit disappointed .. was hoping for X-Com games

But they use the 3D Realms name, I have not seen the classic Apogee Logo in a LONG time. That is my point. If you got an original Amiga copy of Lemmings you will see DMA and Psygnosis, and if Team 17 owns it now, and we get a copy, it will STILL SAY DMA and Psygnosis, NOT Team 17.

So can we get a way to sell those games regardless of who currently owns the rights?

Umm, no, that's the point. You can never sell something regardless of who owns the rights.

I'm not even sure of what your point is regarding the Apogee games. They hold the rights currently which means they are the ones authorized to allow DD. No one's going to go back and recompile a new version of the game that changes who the game says the publisher is within the game just to make it agree with whoever that is at the exact time the game is being sold.

Besides Team17 doesn't own anything regarding Lemmings right now. They've only *developed* a couple games *for* Sony.

Lafazar: Nice, some real classics.

It looks like those are the DOS versions. Would it be possible to get the AMIGA versions on GOG as well? Perhaps as a bonus? I know GOG would need to license a kickstart ROM for that, but I've seen that happening on compilation discs before.

Edit: Or maybe just provide the disk images to us in the bonus section and we could figure out how to emulate them on our own. It would be awesome if there was a legal way to obtain AMIGA games in a legal way like this!!!
You can get the Amiga disk images for free on the dream17 website (a fansite for team17). I believe team17 has given permission for them to put the games up there, so it should be legit.

The more publishers the better... I have to investigate these games first before I make up my mind. I'm poor as hell.

Superfrog? :D

I'm probably going to wait to get Worms United and Alien Breed on sale some time. I already have Worms 1 from Steam, and the only Worms games I ever really cared about were Armageddon and World Party. I knew that today was going to bring Team 17 games, but I'm surprised you guys didn't just pull the big guns and start with Worms Armageddon.

Well, that'll be a good addition when it shows up. That one isn't available anywhere right now. I got Reloaded as a gift when it was new, and I have to say, I didn't think you could ruin the Worms formula, but it's inferior to everything prior to World Party in just about every way.

Now Superfrog, however... that's one I'm going to buy on day one! Frankly, it's long overdue. As long as we're getting green platformer mascots, I should mention that we're also long overdue on some games from a certain publisher that's already here. Does Epic not hold the rights to Jazz Jackrabbit anymore or something? Or anything else they published and/or developed, for that matter? We don't even have Epic Pinball..... :/

I never played World Rally Fever (in fact, I don't even see it listed on GameFAQs), but I've been watching a little of it on YouTube, and at the very least, it's got some cool music.

Epic does indeed still hold all rights to Jazz, Jill, Epic Pinball, and the rest of my Childhood, that iD and Psygnosis don't own lol... I mentioned earlier you can still buy them, but it is painfully slow, and all dumb low quality physical copies.

No! Because Sony owns the rights so they need to licence it from Sony. What's so hard to understand?

Nothing, I didn't say Contact some former Employee, I simply meant Contact sony ABOUT THOSE SPECIFIC GAMES.

But you know what, I guess I will shut up and stop with this thread, apparently my simple questions are not wanted and I don't want to be yelled at because of it.

Sorry I asked.

You said regardless of who owns the rights, which I took to mean 'ignoring whoever has the rights, can we just sell the games anyway?'

As far as I can tell, yyahoo interpreted your post that way as well. :P

No, I meant contact the current rights holder and ask about certain games.

"Hey Sony, can we sell the games that were made by DMA? We know you own them now, and you don't want us selling other ones, but what about these?"

Well now you're making sense, and I agree with you. Sadly I think Sony might be bastards enough not to be open to even the idea of selling the original Lemmings games DRM-free.
