GOG.com's Agreement with Team 17 ‘Worms Up’ the Cold Days of January.

2012 will be filled with great new things coming to GOG.com, and first up, we’re expanding our catalog with some of the tremendous Team 17's classic titles.

Team 17's offerings on GOG.com start with the most lovable (and lethal) annelids of the gaming world in the unforgettable and quintessential tactical artillery shooter Worms United – a special edition of Worms 1 with the expansion Worms Reinforcements for $5.99. We’re not just giving you one game today, though. You will also want to use some heavy weaponry to fight a different kind of invertebrates--the squicky space alien kind--in Alien Breed and Alien Breed Tower Assault available now for just $5.99 as well.

Today's releases should keep you busy while we bring some more goodness from Team 17 in the next week: Superfrog and World Rally Fever: Born on the Road. We’ll be bringing you more games from their catalog later on this year.

Pick up Worms United and Alien Breed + Alien Breed: Tower Assault for just $5.99 each today on GOG.com!

Loosecannon: Alien Breed and Tower Assault bought.

Superfrog - will buy...

When do we get Alien Breed 2?
Since it never came out for DOS, never. :P

SirPrimalform: You said regardless of who owns the rights, which I took to mean 'ignoring whoever has the rights, can we just sell the games anyway?'
avatar
Zacron: No, I meant contact the current rights holder and ask about certain games.

"Hey Sony, can we sell the games that were made by DMA? We know you own them now, and you don't want us selling other ones, but what about these?"
Yeah, sorry, I completely misunderstood what you were trying to say. Regardless, I think Sony's history suggests that they're a lost cause.

Since when does that mean we won't see it? Look at Two Worlds it was Windows. We got It...

GOG doesn't sell Amiga games. Not that hard to understand.

lol... Right... *Facepalms at self fail* Sorry for the confusion.
Team 17 are another great addition to GOG. If nothing else getting a major franchise like Worms on GOG is a boon.
Yeah! Good old Amiga times are back!
Superfrog, Worms, Alien Breed, wow!
Only sad that these are (probably inferior) PC versions...

Anyway, I'll probably buy some of them just to compare with Amiga versions.

The best option would be Amiga versions bundled with Amiga emulator + ROM.
Like somebody already mentioned it, GOG could team up with Cloanto to do that.

Lafazar: Nice, some real classics.

It looks like those are the DOS versions. Would it be possible to get the AMIGA versions on GOG as well? Perhaps as a bonus? I know GOG would need to license a kickstart ROM for that, but I've seen that happening on compilation discs before.

Edit: Or maybe just provide the disk images to us in the bonus section and we could figure out how to emulate them on our own. It would be awesome if there was a legal way to obtain AMIGA games in a legal way like this!!!

Team 17 already does that.

begoggled: Team17 are not the nicest of game companies, they could have made Worms abandonware years ago.
All the more amazing that GOG managed to haul them in!
avatar
AFnord: Abandonware really means nothing. It is just a term that people apply to games that are no longer sold & supported, but from a legal standpoint downloading abandonware is still piracy.
Playing Abandonware is 100% ethically sound, and is De Facto perfectly legal. Since the game is not available, there is no "lost profit" BS to sue behind. Remember kids, the law exists to serve man, not the other way around.

avatar
icepowdah: Sigh ... I am a bit disappointed .. was hoping for X-Com games
They are on Steam for dirt cheap...how can you not have them yet? I think I paid $2.50 for the entire series on sale a year ago or so?

avatar
ArbitraryWater: Wait. Team 17 has made games other than Worms?
Not as far as the general public are concerned. Actually, Team 17 are just part of EA in the public eye.

Where does that association come from?
This site just keeps getting better and better.

I'm curious about that statement myself. Has Team17 *ever* done any dev work for EA?

Then again, this is someone who believes that abandonware is completely legal...

lugum: superfrog is awesome :) nightlong union conspiracy too.

but please no leisure suit larry box office bust
Did they release Magna Cum Laude? If they did that'd be a day one purchase for me.

They had nothing to do with that one.

Which is why Box Office Bust was worse than Magna Cum Laude.

... what. Are you talking about.

Team17 publishes their own Worm games and does contract work for other publishers. I never heard they were bought out by someone else. Do you mean this?

http://www.knowyourmobile.com/mobile-games/mobilegamesnews/418824/developers_thq_and_team17_sign_over_worms_rights_to_ea.html

The way I read it, they gave EA the rights to publish the games on mobile phones. That's it.
