I was able to play gog saves on steam games when I owned both gog & steam. I don't remember the opposite.

If you mean add it to Steam, you can make a non-Steam shortcut and launch it from Steam. You're pretty much buying a DRM-free copy and there won't be a Steam key to add it to your Steam account with DLCs, if that's what you mean.

I mean by gog connect. I know that i can just add a non-steam game, but those steam achievements dont work that way.
Good point: The base game and the dlcs MUST be from the same shop.

I'm afraid it won't work that way then. GOG Connect usually adds games from your Steam account to your GOG account when they have an offer. I don't think GOG Connect adds GOG games to Steam. Sorry to say it doesn't work that way.

Hi ernis350.

Steam and GOG.com track achievements separately and achievements from one store account cannot be transferred to the other.
Since GOG.com introduced "GOG Connect", ownership of certain games on your Steam library can be imported on your GOG.com one. It depends on the developers'/ publishers' decisions, which games will be included in the "GOG Connect" initiative and the offer's timeframe lasts only for a couple of days, while you have to pay attention to the announcements and grab them manually, by logging in to GOG Connect.
Up to this day, only the base games are offered through "GOG Connect", without DLCs being included. Finally, it doesn't work the other way around, meaning you can't import games you own on GOG.com to Steam.
Regarding the save files, they can be used/imported regardless from which store you bought the game, as long as the version of the game you plan to import them, is the same as the one where you initially created them.
I recommend buying on GOG.com. Not having to run Valve's client on the background at all times, just to be able to run the game, is a huge plus for me.

Cheers.

No. GOG Connect is one way: from Steam to GOG. Buying the game here does not give you a Steam key.

Hi again.

Ownership of a game works roughly this way.
Bought on GOG.com-> Owned on GOG.com-> Updates received from GOG.com.
Bough on Steam-> Owned on Steam-> Updates received from Steam-> GOG Connect program (when it offers the game, if it offers the game, without DLC)-> Ownership of the base game on GOG.com and Steam.

Steam allows you to create custom shortcuts of games you own outside of Steam, but will not keep them up to date or track achievements and synchronize save files. It just adds a shortcut in your Steam library, that allows you to run that non-Steam game through the client's library.
But GOG.com D.R.M. free policy leaves little doubts on what I would choose. Plus, GOG Galaxy 2.0 will be released sometime this year, or the next one at most, and will include a function similar to the Steam's, mentioned above, as well as more unique features.
Hope this clears it up for you.

Cheers.
I've seen this question come up so many times. I guess GOG hasn't made it clear how their GOG Connect offers work.

I think most here hv sort of ans that qn already. GOG Connect only works ONE way, i.e it gives u a DRM-free copy of a game u already owned on Steam, less any DLCs.

I do hope that GOG Connect wld one day b able give the DLCs as well but as of now the DLCs on GOG is not as complete as on Steam 4 many of the games so we can only hope & wait with abated breath.

GOG has made it very clear, people just can't be bothered to RTFM that's right there on the Connect page...

What wrong with just buying the dlcs twice?

Oh, yes, some people want a free ride, GOG connect for Witcher 3 & huge discounts for every game ASAP.

The Steam API GOG uses to check for ownership of Steam games doesn't list the DLC ownership so unless that changes, it won't .
