There’s nothing like a good old virtual pounding from time to time. That's why we are more than happy to welcome two exceptional fighting games, Mortal Kombat 4 and The friends of Ringo Ishikawa, on our DRM-free ring.

Mortal Kombat 4
It was the year 1997 and all game magazines were booming - Mortal Kombat goes 3D! The series created by Ed Boon and John Tobias already had cult status, but everybody was curious if it would survive such a revolution. Abandoning the traditional digitalized 2D graphics known from the previous Mortal Kombat games indeed seemed risky. Eventually, it took Tobias and Boon three years of hard work to create Mortal Kombat 4.

The final result was warmly welcomed by the fans, who liked the turn into the more dark, bloody direction of the Mortal Kombat franchise. For example, creators focused on the brutal Fatality endings to the fight, excluding humoresque elements like Friendship or Babality. Popular characters, like Johnny Cage, Raiden, and Goro, returned after some time of absence, while new fighters - Quan Chi, Shinnok or Tanya - quickly garnered many fans.

Just like its predecessors, Mortal Kombat 4 remains extremely fun to play even after many years since its release. Thanks to GOG.COM you can enjoy this game and its sheer dynamic playability once again.

The friends of Ringo Ishikawa
Remember that magic sound made by the coin inserted into the old arcade machine? Among many cult arcade games, side-scrolling fighting titles were very prominent. The friends of Ringo Ishikawa from yeo is such a game, yet combined with an open world and an engaging coming-of-age story. The main character of this title, a high school gang leader Ringo Ishikawa, has but one goal - to live through his last autumn before graduation.

With best friends by his side, he travels through the city and school grounds engaging in a brutal fight from time to time. As its creator describes it, The friends of Ringo Ishikawa is an existential open world beat ‘em up game with some school sim elements. It gives you quite a lot of freedom in exploring the town which undergoes the day-night cycle and has a lot of NPCs.

Apart from the game's story, elements like the hand-to-hand combat or mini-games (e.g. ping-pong and video-poker) will keep you immersed in The friends of Ringo Ishikawa for long!

As you can see, with two mentioned above releases we are not pulling any punches. It’s up to you to choose your favorite contestant or sidekick and pulverize all enemies standing in your way into smoking dust!

Thank you for MK4! Never thought I'd see the day. :)
Weird, I can hear someone screaming?
Someone falling down...
I can still hear that, decade and more later.

lol this game :D

I remember how I could do Reptile's fatality by pausing the game with start, unpausing, and mashing the up button :D

low rated
Mortal Kombat 4 is a shitty game and probably a terrible port. Let's not pretend that isn't the case.

The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa is actually a hidden gem. It's also got some great music.

One man's trash is another man's treasure or so they say.
Thanks GOG! I will absolutely get 4!

Still though, the best in the series is Trilogy! Please get trilogy, eh? This is the one most people and Good OLD Gamers are really anticipating, ne?
INsta-Bought faster than Rayden Lighting!!!!

It is pretty bad, but I have some weird nostalgia for it. Which is why I insta-bought it. XD And it seems to run just fine with nglide from what I've seen so far.

Seriously though, I look back at MK4, then I think of MK 9, X and XI and realize how far this series has come since then. XD

Only just purchased, but assuming that it's the same version I have on CD, it's actually a pretty decent port of the arcade version. Opinions will vary about it - I honestly think it's the best MK game other than everything from MK9 onwards, but I do think it made the jump into 3D a little too soon, coming at a time when fluid twitch gameplay was still not really feasible in 3D.

It was, at the very least, better than the terrible PC ports of MK1-3.
This is pretty cool, more stuff from WB. We got Stranglehold a few months back but nothing since then. I'm also looking forward specifically to Area 51 2005 FPS, and more Midway and WB games would be great. (Psi-Ops, FEAR 3, etc.) Hopefully MK Trilogy can still show up, even at the 9.99 price point if need be.

Is it prepackaged with nGlide? I knew nGlide supports it but I didn't know if the GOG version used it.

*pulls wishlist out of pocket* btw you aren't alone, MK4 had nearly 1k votes. (you can complete the wish btw GOG ;)

Trilogy's an interesting conundrum, and quite honestly, I think nostalgia doesn't quite live up to the reality. The PSX and Saturn versions were both a metric ton better than the horrendous PC ports, but in its own right, it's a terribly unbalanced game.

The DOS version ran at a greatly diminished resolution for some reason, was rather juddery and had countless control issues (not counting the usual problems of DOS gamepads seldom supporting more than four buttons in a game that relies on having six).

The Windows version had problems on even hardware of the time (refusing to run on Windows XP properly despite releasing just four years prior to it), but there are two unofficial patches floating around. CubanRaul (who did a bang-up job getting Blood Omen to run properly on modern PCs) is the author of one of the patches/installers.

Completely agree with this, but I would still prefer Tekken 7.
Strong Yu Yu Hakusho vibes from The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa. I'll have to keep an eye on it to see what the reviews say.

Yes, the release runs via nGlide, and it does so very well, i.e. it's just at the right speed and framerate. The only thing I need to figure out is how to redefine the buttons on my gamepad. They're a little all over the place right now.
