If they provide a key, than it can be redeemed. The Steam version doesn't have a key and can't be redeemed. (DS 2 however provides a key)

You're wrong. Dead Space 1 (one) from Steam can be redeemed on Origin.
1. Grab key from registry.
2. Use https://activate.ea.com/applyentitlement.do

My copy of DS1 redeemed without any problems. Additionally, I can choose the Polish language, which is not available on Steam.

Just a quick correction the steam version of dead space does come with a cd key that can be activated on origin you just have to look in your regedit to find it.
