JudasIscariot: Sword of the Stars: The Pit is a true roguelike :)

adaliabooks: I did think there was another one, but I couldn't recall which.
Really should pick that up at some point.

And having read your link, I withdraw my assertion that FTL might be a proper roguelike, second thoughts suggest it's just a roguelite too.
It's a great game but in the end it's a real-time space ship and crew management game with procedural planet and event placement :)

Not a roguelike :P

IronArcturus: I still argue that, nowadays, a "roguelike" does not necessarily mean that the game is related to the original "Rogue."
Yeah, these things change over time, for better or worse. From what I've heard, "Metroidvania" used to refer to Castlevania games that were similar to the Metroid series. Now, people use the term to refer to any game that is "Metroid-like", even though with the original meaning it should only refer to certain Castlevania games. Similarly, "roguelike" now usually refers to any game with procedural/random elements and permadeath, regardless of its actual genre.

And that drives me up the wall and around the corner. Seriously, it's my only pet peeve...
Oh man, one should never use the term 'roguelike' with Judas in vicinity...

Yeah, I was forgetting the real time thing. That knocks any suggestion it could be a proper Roguelike out of the park (apart from all the other things)

adaliabooks: Tales of Maj'Eyal is a roguelike (I think it's the only true one we have on GoG, though I might be persuaded to call FTL a proper roguelike..), ...
What about NEO Scavenger?

Not a roguelike although almost there :P
avatar
JudasIscariot: Oh man, the "nowadays" argument. Please, I beseech you, I'll even GIVE you an actual roguelike just so we have this hashed out once and for all :P
Would Nuclear Throne count? :) Hehe

No.

adaliabooks: But they are two different things.

Tales of Maj'Eyal is a roguelike (I think it's the only true one we have on GoG, though I might be persuaded to call FTL a proper roguelike..), a roguelite just borrows elements of a roguelite (perma death, randomisation, punishing difficulty level) and generally tag them onto a different kind of game (like Rogue Legacy for example).

It's like calling anything that uses a first person perspective an FPS.

Is there any chance that the developers could make a single installer with all the existing DLC?

Hopefully there will be a GOTY version one day and we can all pretend this never happened at all :P

I have a feeling there have been a lot of heated conversations between you and whoever is in charge of GOG's genre labels.

I'm personally more concerned about having the latest version than a single combined installer. The game needs to be badly updated first, then we can worry about a combined installer.

I hope so. Thank you for replying about that issue, myself and at least one other sent an email to support about this issue over a week or more ago but never received a reply. I hate to be pushy about it, but over a year is a long time to not have an update for a purchased game.

I really, really hope that will happen soon. To think: a single installer for SotS: The Pit; what a world we would live in! :P
