What about the X-Com series? :)
SSI( bought by Ubisoft, methinks) - Warhammmer 40000: Chaos Gate
EA/Mindscape - Warhammer: Dark Omen
MIndscape - Warhammer : Shadow of the Horned Rat
These games were released somewhere from 1995 to 1998.
They all got something in common: they don't work well or don't work at all under winXP and newer, so obviously they need some polishing.

Windows Games:
Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic
Dungeon Keeper 2
Joint Strike Fighter
Kohan Game Of The Year Edition
Stronghold Warchest
DOS Games:
Might & Magic 1-5
Syndicate Plus
X-COM Collector's Edition
Outcast from infogrames and The Nomad Soul : Omikron from Eidos Interactive
I couldn't agree more about all of the adventure series posted.
Kings Quest, Police Quest, Space Quest, Leasure Suit Larry, Even some of the more obscure Sierra ones like Laura Bow would be cool.
I would like to see a few more turn based strategy games as well, like Alpha Centuri and Caesar III.
Also, the Monkey Island series is an absolute must have!

UK_John: Sorry to be the mature one here. But I doubt you are going to get any DOS games being sold here, because I cannot see how they could guarantee they would work unless they did a deal with DOSBox (a utility that allows you to easily play DOS games in an emulator). It may be difficult legally to charge for a game that only runs because it has a freeware utility included that runs it.

Hello UK_John,
I'd like to clear things out. Yes, we already support Descent and M.A.X., both runs under DOSBOX. You can purchase and play without worring about compability :)
We also have some other classic titles that are going to be released on GOG.com soon.
Thanks to support from the DOSBOX Team games running under DOS mode are not a problem for us!
Our thanks to Them are here: http://www.gog.com/en/thanks/

Belua: Elastomania
Why that one, when a DRM-free Windows version can be purchased from the original author (the best way of buying a game there is)?

UK_John: You have to be a clever consumer though, as some of the games mentioned are now freeware, or there is no way to know now who owns the copyright and therefore are considered 'legal abandonware'.
The problem with who has the legal copyright for these old DOS games would make it impossible for G.O.G. to be even able to approach anyone to get permission to sell.
Yes, it would be really difficult and time consuming. GOG.com still looks like the best chance we have these days.

UK_John: no one would expect steam to carry free games.
In fact, Steam does offer a free game (not that it's not a demo of another title, though).

Belua: Wasn't Descent 1 a DOS game? I'm not completely sure, but that would give us hope GOG can also offer us DOS games ;)

derailedition: Yes, Descent 1 and 2 are DOS games. They use DOSBox for the emulation here.
That's a disappointment for me. It was a disappointment when I bought some DOS games from Steam, because I thought it would be so cool to have them run in correct screen resolutions and fully support Windows gamepads. I guess nobody has the power to port them nowadays.

FRANC: I got all those Warhammer 40k games working on my XP machine. Generally all you need to do is google, for example: 'running Warhammer: Dark Omen on XP', and you will find installers or patches that allow the game to run on a modern PC. Shadow of the Horned Rat runs as is on my PC with no glitches at all, so for me that didn't even need a google! :)
SEMON: I would vote for Outcast, but it would be a 1GB+ download that G.O.G. may want to stay away from in the short term. I would also say that some publishers are going to be very difficult when it comes to licensing titles, and I would put Infogrammes at the top of that list with EA.
LEXX: The X-Com series have been licensed by Steam, so won't be available on G.O.G. I can see the follow up's like UFO Aftermath, etc being available on G.O.G
SAMOSAsAN: All of the Police, Space, King's Quest and Leisure Suit Larry games have been released by Sierra as compilations late 2006 updated to run on modern PC's..
HAWKEYE: I'll add my vote for Battlezone and the Red Odyssey expansion as well, but they might be difficult to get working in XP and Vista as I remember there was some grief running them in Win98!
Battlezone is a good example where the devil is in the details. Initially Battlezone was 3DFX only, and a patch was needed for D3D graphics. Some of the titles mentioned above were 3DFX games, and they are going to be very difficult to make compatible with the latest ATI/NVidia cards.

Well glad to hear it and be corrected. Just assumed it would be difficult having a freeware product as part of a 'for profit' title - from a legal point of view.
Anyway, thanks for clearing it up.
But another question: Can I assume you could also deal with the old 3DFX games too, like Battlezone and others, regarding making them compatible?
And of course, it doesn't change the fact that getting hold of the copyright holder to do a deal with for these older DOS games is going to be a hassle, if not impossible in many cases So i'll watch this space with interest.

Hard to read the whole topic from the beginning but I think that some old adventure games would be a nice addition.
I don't want to name certain titles but I think that all of us love to play old good games of Sierra or Lucas Arts ;)
The old LucasArts point and click games
Early Elder Scrolls series
Diablo series
Shivers series
Gex series
The original Black and White
System Shock series
Hoyle Casino/Classic Board Games
Oregon Trail
House Of The Dead series
I'm sure I'll think of more later.

YES!
Outcast! Best game no one heard of! I still have my boxed version, it's workable on xp, but can't get it running on vista.
Also, I'd love to play the original Resident Evil on PC.
I also would like to play Tomb Raider 2 again.

Three games have come to my mind:
-Outwars (was an interesting hybrid of action and tactical game, from Microsoft game studio I think, not very well known, but it was fun).
-Shadow of the Comet
-Prisoner of Ice
