The familiar worlds like you’ve never seen before.

Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire and Ultima: Worlds of Adventure 2: Martian Dreams are available now on GOG.com for free, courtesy of GOG.com and Electronic Arts.

Lord British presents two adventures you would never think are possible in Ultima universe. Players of the Ultima series may recall that the black moonstone the Avatar found at the start of Ultima 6 can be used to teleport you anyplace and anytime. That is why ORIGIN Systems have, using the Ultima 6 engine, sent the gamers worldwide on two unexpected journeys in both space and time.

First, the Avatar travels to the time-lost land of Eodon, where dinosaurs still rule and ancient mysteries abound. Basically, Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire is Ultima meets The Lost World with simplified RPG elements; it’s a fun jungle epic with a change in pace you will welcome with open arms. If you’ve never played any Ultima games, The Savage Empire is a good place to start. Explore jungles and wastelands, cross lava flows, encounter stone-age tribes, and battle the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex right now for the unbeatable price of absolutely zilch.

Ultima: Worlds of Adventure 2: Martian Dreams takes the Avatar and his friend Dr Spector to the year 1893 to witness a launch of a space cannon aimed at Mars. No, you haven’t forgotten some important lessons from history--this is an alternate universe version of Earth, but you will definitely recognise a lot of the people in it. You will interact with many historical figures as Marie Curie, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, Theodore Roosvelt, H.G Wells, and dozens more. After reaching Mars, you will have to survive the hostile environment and battle strange plants and monsters as you explore the surface of Mars. Enjoy this historical world of adventure, completely free of charge and free of any DRM only on your favorite distribution platfrom, GOG.com.

Check out these free games, but also be sure to check out the rest of the Ultima series, if you haven’t gotten in on GOG.com yet, because there are thousands of hours of incredible RPG goodness locked away in these titles, and it would be a shame to miss a single minute of it.

Those release would not be possible without help from Joe Garrity, and Steven "Xe Dragon" Dengler, Marc "Sergorn Dragon" Charlot, and Pix. Thanks!

OptimusHun: both are using my favorite sci-fi themes: Dinosaurs and Mars! :)
So this would make a game about dinosaurs on Mars like your favourite game ever? Hm... intriguing... to the devcave!

oldschool: Do you have DirectX 9.0c installed? Some games will not run without this installed.

johnki: Yes, I do.

And DCT, I don't see how compatibility mode affects DOSBox?
You're right, it has nothing to do with DosBox. I downloaded the game and it works fine on my setup. Maybe there was some sort of data corruption when you downloaded your game, and yes, I'm making an uniformed guess. I hope you get it working.

Just make a game(A GOOD one.) based on that John Connor movie(Or whatever it's name is.....the one where the guy fights on Mars. NO!.....not Total Recall! :p...:).....).

Well, I deleted Martian Dreams and haven't redownloaded it yet, but Savage Empire works under XP compatibility mode, which is kind of odd.
Thank you very much!

You could always take the files in the GOG install folder and dump them into a Dosbox gui/frontend.....just a thought. :\
Thanks be to GOG :)
This may have already been answered somewhere in the thread, but who are Joe Garrity, Steven "Xe Dragon" Dengler, Marc "Sergorn Dragon" Charlot and Pix?

Some seem to be people in the Ultima fan community, from google searches.

(Maybe they helped GOG get the game materials and extras together, or get them working in Dosbox?)

They helped get EA/Bioware-Mythic the game data, I recall Paul Bartnett saying on the Giant bomb podcast about a few of the masters of the games they want to re-release were either deterated to the point of being usable or were missing so they reached out to the community for help and as a bonus they also scanned the documentation.
Thank you GOG! Not just one great game, but two of my favorites.
Nice surprise! I wanted to play these game for a very long time and they would've been an instantbuy for me. And now you give them away for free?

Thank you very much (GOG and EA)!!!
This looks really nice! Never heard about those games, but I´m gonna try them out.

Thanks, GOG!
Thank you GOG!
I'm nearly in tears. I have been an Ultima fan since Ultima for the Apple II (no number-the original plastic bag wrapped edition) but, sadly, I missed out on these games when they were released. I was in college and broke, and by the time they would have been on sale at lower prices, they were gone. Ever since I heard about GOG (through the Ultima Forever twitter) and I knew you were going to carry Ultima, I was hopeful. Every Tuesday and Thursday I went in hoping for Ultima. First 1-3 were announced. I was ecstatic and bought them immediately.

A few days later, 4-6. Once again, I bought. A few months later, I woke up, went to the site and found the Great Earth Serpent staring at me. I was broke, but this was Ultima VII. I could bend a little just for this occasion and I ordered immediately. This is where GOG's treatment of Ultima was in the forefront. It took a while for VII but they included both games and add-ins for $5.99. I bought and now had all the great Ultima games except for the missing two. (I do not mean VII and IX. They were good, but not great.) I still did not have Worlds Of Ultima. I knew GOG would get them, and I hoped for the $5.99 price tag for a combined package. Today I found both of them here. And, not for $5.99 as I had hoped, but for FREE!!!

GOG I've said before how much I appreciate your service, but I need to repeat myself. I really appreciate GOG. This was, as many have said, an unexpected and wonderful surprise. Now I need to go, as I am needed in Eodon. Maybe after that, I don't know, maybe I will go to Mars...
