The familiar worlds like you’ve never seen before.

Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire and Ultima: Worlds of Adventure 2: Martian Dreams are available now on GOG.com for free, courtesy of GOG.com and Electronic Arts.

Lord British presents two adventures you would never think are possible in Ultima universe. Players of the Ultima series may recall that the black moonstone the Avatar found at the start of Ultima 6 can be used to teleport you anyplace and anytime. That is why ORIGIN Systems have, using the Ultima 6 engine, sent the gamers worldwide on two unexpected journeys in both space and time.

First, the Avatar travels to the time-lost land of Eodon, where dinosaurs still rule and ancient mysteries abound. Basically, Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire is Ultima meets The Lost World with simplified RPG elements; it’s a fun jungle epic with a change in pace you will welcome with open arms. If you’ve never played any Ultima games, The Savage Empire is a good place to start. Explore jungles and wastelands, cross lava flows, encounter stone-age tribes, and battle the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex right now for the unbeatable price of absolutely zilch.

Ultima: Worlds of Adventure 2: Martian Dreams takes the Avatar and his friend Dr Spector to the year 1893 to witness a launch of a space cannon aimed at Mars. No, you haven’t forgotten some important lessons from history--this is an alternate universe version of Earth, but you will definitely recognise a lot of the people in it. You will interact with many historical figures as Marie Curie, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, Theodore Roosvelt, H.G Wells, and dozens more. After reaching Mars, you will have to survive the hostile environment and battle strange plants and monsters as you explore the surface of Mars. Enjoy this historical world of adventure, completely free of charge and free of any DRM only on your favorite distribution platfrom, GOG.com.

Check out these free games, but also be sure to check out the rest of the Ultima series, if you haven’t gotten in on GOG.com yet, because there are thousands of hours of incredible RPG goodness locked away in these titles, and it would be a shame to miss a single minute of it.

Those release would not be possible without help from Joe Garrity, and Steven "Xe Dragon" Dengler, Marc "Sergorn Dragon" Charlot, and Pix. Thanks!
Thanks GOG, Joe Garrity, Steven "Xe Dragon" Dengler, Marc "Sergorn Dragon" Charlot, and Pix
Thanks guys. You all help make GOG the best service on the web.

Cheers.

Oh really, there it is, a map! Well I suppose if I print it and remove the legend so I can do my own, proper exploration, it should replace an automap. Thanks!
Thanks a lot GOG and all that helped get these here...and free!! :-D

SimonG: Na, you lost any goodwill with me by releasing a game on Monday....

Structure is important!
That actually surprised me as well.

But hey, great games for free! I really loved that Jules Verne style retro sf. Thanks a lot! Really appreciate that gift.
Awesome, just awesome. I know someone here that's going to be very happy about this news. I remember these titles when they came out but never picked them up. All I need is Ultima 9 and i can be in Ultima heaven. Awesome!!
Aww. It's like EA is trying get old customers back.. it's cute, but i ain't working :)
Martian Dreams is closing right after the DOSBox window opens. The game isn't even loading up. Running Win 7 64-bit. I'm assuming since it passed the file integrity check, that it should work?

Didn't change anything, unfortunately. :/

Do you have DirectX 9.0c installed? Some games will not run without this installed.

Yes, I do.

And DCT, I don't see how compatibility mode affects DOSBox?

As with all DosBox games, start with the following steps.
1) Try to run the game in windowed mode, by setting "Fullscreen=false" to the game's config file.
2) If that doesn't work, try changing the graphic output to opengl, or any of the other choices (either run the graphics mode setup program, or modify the config file manuall)
3) If neither of these solve it, you'll have to prevent DosBox from autoclosing, to see what the error message (if any) is. Open the configuration file, and at the end it will probably have the following 2 lines
cls
exit
which clear the last screen (cls) and then send the exit command to dosbox. Remove those two lines. You will also need to modify the game's shortcut to remove the -exit part at the end of the target line. Once you do these 2 steps, once the game finishes running (or in this case, once it crashes), you should have an error message on DosBox, which can help identify and solve the problem.
You will need to run notepad as an administrator to modify the config file, or even better, copy it on the desktop first, modify it, then copy it back. It would also help to keep a backup of the file, just in case.

I don't see how it would either but that is what others trying to run the game on 64 bit windows have said worked for them
