JoeSapphire: Game #57 over! Mafia win.

Trent! You're up.
Nope, he's eliminated.
First thing, the news about my daughter is extremely positive. They ran a CT Scan (?) and checked some marker levels in her blood and everything looks good so they determined that no more treatments are needed for now. They will check things again in about 6 weeks and if things are still looking good they will just monitor her closely for the next year, running tests and checking her markers. Hopefully all stays clear and no more treatments are necessary. So now we just focus on her weeding that will be June 23rd of this year :)

As for a new game, I can not start one until probably next week sometime.

My game:
The place is Gogville in Northern Colorado and the year is 1884. The gold rush brought hundreds of thousands of people to the west and new towns came and went overnight. One of those towns is Gogville, a place that showed promise that never truly came to fruition as a somewhere to find gold. The 130 or so people that have stayed did so as they didn't really have the means to go elsewhere and start over again or they just liked the area enough to call it home. A gentleman by the name of Tom Flannery, an old grizzled miner that everyone loves and someone who has been all over these mountains for the past 5 years, comes to town late one day with several large sacks of what appears to be gold to sale and the rumors start flowing that he has found the vein that brought this town into existence several years back. He chooses not to say if he has or not but does give a knowing smile when questioned about it. The bank has already closed so Tom gets a room at the hotel of his brother Jake and settles in for the night preparing to go in the morning to sell his gold. Right before dawn several shots ring out awakening the whole hotel. Jake knowing Tom has all that gold and fearing the worst sends his two sons to check the outside to make sure no one is seen sneaking away or climbing out of the upper floor windows then rushes upstairs to Tom's room. When he enters the room he finds Tom very much dead and full of holes. He searches the room and finds no gold.

Storming back downstairs Jake gathers his sons and determines no one has left the hotel. He post one of them outside to make sure no one leaves and then he goes with his other son to bring everyone down to the dining area. He glares at the crowd and with a voice full of anger says "Some low life has killed Tom and stolen his gold!" He starts pacing and points his finger at the crowd "Now someone here is guilty, and there will be hell to pay for the person that did this!. No one is leaving till the killer is brought before me and justice served"

The patrons immediately start yelling and swearing "You have no right!" "It wasn't me, I was sleeping in my room all night!" "Who do you think you are!" "This is bullshit, you can't hold us here!".

Jake draws his pistol and fires a round into the ceiling "Quiet!!" he yells. "There is no marshal or sheriff here now, and since Tom was my brother I have every right to see this murderer brought to justice!" He glares at them again "Now I am not an unfair man, I will let ya'll decide among yourselves who is guilty or innocent. I will not encroach on someone's privacy until a consensus is reached, and when ya'll have reached that consensus bring them to me and I will search their room and possessions. If I find the gold they will be shot, if no gold is found they can leave unharmed. My sons will be positioned outside so if anyone has any ideas of trying to leave this place they will be shot on sight because only the guilty would try. Everyone will bring me their firearms and then will be here in this dining hall to discuss among yourselves who I need to check first"

This game will be open to anyone who wants to play, it will be a closed setup, there will be flips, and there will be no cult or bastard elements in the game.

I will start a signup thread sometime this coming weekend.

Good health, upcoming wedding, and upcoming Good Mafia game!

What a wonderful thing to read this morning. Thanks Trent! I'm super happy for you all, and excited for MAFIA >:)
I think we need to have a talk about a couple of mechanical aspects of the game, specifically mafia win conditions and voting mechanics.

1. At some point along the way the mafia win condition seems to have been over-simplified to "mafia win when their numbers equal those of the town", which is often the case but it isn't actually how they win. The mafia win by having control, if the town don't have the means to kill any more mafia. Often the mafia have complete control when they are 1:1 with the town, but not always.

As an example, let's say the game is at 2v2 and the town have a vig and a doc/blocker/jailer, that's a perfect example of a situation where the mafia still don't have full control. If they can convince one townie to vote for the other then they have won, but other than that the day may end in a no-lynch. That night, the town have a chance of killing one of the mafia as well as blocking the night kill. If both of those things happen then they may be able to win.

The game can only truly be called when the variables are eliminated.

2. I think the prosecutor role needs clarifying. My understanding (and expectation) is that anything affecting the number of votes in play also affects the number needed for a majority, see the "brig" mechanic from Poppy's BSG game for a precedent.

I think we need to discuss this, try and find a consensus and clarify the description in the role list, either that it does or doesn't affect the majority.
Happy to hear about your daughter's condition improving, Trent! Also yes, I would love to be added to the same list as Microfish.

Anyway, I came to comment just to say...

Why does that sound eerily familiar...it sounds as if...it's talking about this we-
Nevermind. I just had a strange memory, there's nothing out of the ordinary, I assure you.

...I'm glad Joe mentioned a wedding, because I read this and assumed ya'll were helping her with her garden or something. o.o

My fat fingers and a phone equals lots of misspelling of words LOL
Great news, trent!
And your game idea looks interesting, but I will take a break from Mafia. I noticed during play that I had a hard time to invest myself in the game and after my death I didn't care at all who won. Which is a sign that my interest in Mafia overall has waned. So it's time to take a break.

I disappeared for four years when that happened. >_>

It's a surprise, but he got her a copy of Stardew Valley.
@trent: I'm glad to hear that things have taken a good turn. If time allows I might even partake your game :)
Trent, this is fantastic news about your daughter, I'm extremely glad for you and your whole family.

As for your game, sorry, I didn't bother reading the intro as it's too many words and I just want to ask if your game will be flavor heavy and if that will be at all important. The past game kind of solidified my fear that I've become too lazy and unwilling to spend as much hours reading tons of long posts and weeding out all the fluff from what's actually important as I used to do with vigorous interest a few years ago when we started playing together. I have to admit that I was somewhat relieved when I got knocked out so early.

Anyway, depending on what the game will be like and some other factors I might join. Worst case scenario - if you don't have an assistant mod already and you should need one I'll be more than happy to help out.

Not flavor heavy, and flavor will have no bearing on the game. It will be there for those that want to read it, but any pertinent information on flips or NK’s will be at the beginning of the post.

I am also considering changing it from a closed setup to one where people bid on the roles they want from a predetermined list (like JMich did in the past). That can make for an interesting game :-)
