Krypsyn: My reaction to trentonlf voting for Bookwyrm627: Okay, I can see it.
My reaction to flubbucket voting for Bookwyrm627: Huh? I don't get it.
My reaction to mchack voting for Bookwyem627: Yep. In-line with expectations.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I just got what you meant like 5 minutes ago. Thanks for spelling it out, though. My bad.
avatar
mchack: uhm. they were both 2 person scum teams in the situation I'm talking about. this decision I was musing about (who goes for the conversion shot) was taking place N1 with two teams each 2 persons. I don't see how you comment fits what I said.
avatar
ZFR: We are talking about a hypothetical situation where the scum team is considering whom to send in case that their conversion fails and there is one 1 scum left on their team.

I can see how that discussion went:
Adalia: I think I should go in case the conversion fails. You're well hidden and no one suspects you.
Hunter: No! If you go and the conversion fails then not only you'll be putting the other scum team in bad light, you could also be putting innocent townies in suspicion.
Adalia: By golly, you're right! You go instead. If you fail, we'll be in deep shit, but at least we'll know the other scum team is safe and no harm comes their way.
Hunter: Hooray! Hooray!
while indeed funny (we'll be able to look it up post game in their night chat) I don't think this is how it went.
How are they in less deep shit with adalia going for the conversion and failing? he does have support of idk he said around 6 people with his theories and lynching him for being scummy didn't work yesterday why would it now? (his assumed thought not mine. I think he should have been lynched yesterday and I hope he will today) whereas hunter was rather lurky and had way less support to choose targets to lynch and in the same vein you and others are going after leonard (for what being not as scummy as others? lurky?) the lynch of hunter could have easily happened.
so no. still not buying that in the case of adalia + hunter being a team, adalia would risk going for the conversion.
avatar
adaliabooks: Wyrm (no idea why he is being voted particularly)

Bookwyrm627: Because Statistics is an invaluable branch of hard science that has never, will never, and can never be misused to say or imply anything that is incorrect.

The correct question to ask about Post 773 would have been "Did you manage to type that with a straight face?"
The answer would have been "No. No I did not."

Good thing I didn't pull a coin out of my pocket, or I'd be dead already.

----------

I figure Trent and Flub have a higher than average chance of being converted simply because they have put on the appearance of being Town Vanilla. Why aim in the dark when you've got not one, but TWO candidates right there, ripe for the WIFOM pickings?
So why Trent and not Flub? And if trent flips town then it's Flub tomorrow? And then lemme think we're on D4 then you go looking for the scum doing the conversion? When they used up their conversion shots? When they likely control the vote? (which they might by then, unless we start lynching scum (preferebly Original Scum) now...)
Not a townie play, I'd say but I get it if you are scum...

avatar
Bookwyrm627: Perhaps that's what happened to Hunter. He picked one of them, and they were actually scum. Nothing like convincing the opposing scum team to suicide on you. Keeps them from growing, remove one of their conversions, and possibly help town eliminate them the following Day while you focus on growing.
Ah, so now you believe trent was actually scum yesterday? Really?
Or are you talking about Flub? (why vote trent then?) What in his play yesterday made you think he was scum then?
the working/begging to be lynched? the asking adalia to have a baby with him when he tried hard to get flubs lynched? What gave his scum play away?
avatar
adaliabooks: Which is fine, but far more likely to come from scum then town (sure, he may wish to avoid a conversion by pretending he already has been, but I'm not sure I'd count that as a pro town play here). [...]
Not sure I follow, elaborate?

avatar
adaliabooks: [...] You'd think if he was so important and scum were so desperate to remove him they would have NK'd or converted him... [...]
Well, if he was town Yesterday, he may have been converted over Night.

avatar
ZFR: [...] (Though to be honest, if I were Hunter's partner, I think the inexperienced newbie would be more expendable than him). [...]
Heh.

Having said that, and generally speaking, it actually depends on more factors than just the amount of experience/number of games played. A good example is Dessimu, who rolled scum in his very first game, and proved a natural; he's a better scum player than a town one, imo. He's got very few games under his belt, but he'd not be expendable to me were I scum and he my scum-buddy in this game on the mere basis of him having played less games than me.

avatar
flubbucket: I'd have been a better lynch Day One. However I'm still a safe lynch now. Not the best lynch but a safe one.

At this juncture I'd rather lynch scum. [...]
In spite the reassuring preface, you saying you want to lynch scum, even if it's an honest statement, doesn't necessarily make you town.

avatar
dedoporno: He's not avoiding conversion now, though. He's avoiding lynch so to speak. I wouldn't say that approach is equally as good in that situation.
[emphasis added]

Could you elaborate?

avatar
dedoporno: [...] (unless Hunter was NKed in which case his buddy may have been the convertor and the conversion may already spent, [...]
If I'm reading this correctly, is there anything in the setup/rules that prevents Hunter65536 from using his conversion AND getting NK-ed?

And does OG stand for Original Goon?

avatar
dedoporno: [...] A bit off-of-topic: I'm sick and it doesn't seem to get better. I'm around but every now and again I fall asleep so I might not be always on.
So it's you that deprived me from a full recovery, and not only got me sick all over again, but even worse than a couple of weeks ago!

Jokes aside, I feel for you, I woke up sick, again, this morning, and it seems to be getting worse. I should probably stay away from the game thread, as, from cross-reading it so far, some things make me groan and some others chuckle, and neither is helping with the nasty cough I have.
avatar
mchack: Ah, so now you believe trent was actually scum yesterday? Really?
Or are you talking about Flub? (why vote trent then?) What in his play yesterday made you think he was scum then?
the working/begging to be lynched? the asking adalia to have a baby with him when he tried hard to get flubs lynched? What gave his scum play away?
This I have to agree with. It makes no sense to me that flub with his play was scum and let's face it, we know trent was Town at least Yesterday. One of them getting converted overnight - sure, but being an OG? I don't think so.
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Could you elaborate?
Adalia (I think, can't go back to search for it now) was saying that trent might be acting differently to push away a potential conversion attempt. My point was that, if he has to be pushing something away it has to be the lynch first and only then worry about the conversion. Acting as he might have been converted by team A to scare off team B might work out conversion-wise but when it comes to lynch it's a whole lot worse of a strategy.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: If I'm reading this correctly, is there anything in the setup/rules that prevents Hunter65536 from using his conversion AND getting NK-ed?
I don't think there is. That's a scenario I didn't consider.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: And does OG stand for Original Goon?
OG stands for Original Gangster (I think it was coined by Ice-T back in day, pretty sure he had an album of the same name), seemed like an appropriate abbreviation.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: So it's you that deprived me from a full recovery, and not only got me sick all over again, but even worse than a couple of weeks ago!
I was steady as a rock 24 hours ago, not sure where that came from. I low-key blame wife and son, though. I'm sure we'll be up and kicking in no time. Get well soon!
avatar
Lifthrasil: 2) This is one little detail that Town has no way of knowing and which I won't reveal.
Well. So much for open setup. :P

avatar
mchack: uh, nope all of scum were on my wagon
Wow, there's quite a statement.

avatar
adaliabooks: The very fact that you have to ask why I might not having been willing to vote a particular player in this set up suggests you are not paying any attention or are completely blinded by your read on me.
And saying/implying something here is helpful, how? If mchack is scum as you are so intent on, then he would obviously be fishing for as much as possible before he gets lynched. As it is, I'm quite certain you are not a mason, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

avatar
Leonard03: [...] Unless they were as indecisive as us and ran out of time, lol. [...]
avatar
HypersomniacLive: How funny. More so since N1 didn't last a full 48hrs.
Ooh, ya got me there.

avatar
trentonlf: I have a case! What’s in it? Can I eat it?
PB&J

avatar
ZFR: Because I'm thinking it might be easier to "hunt" (hehe) down Hunter's partner. For starters, mchack, yourself (?) and anyone else who was in a bad situation would be exonerated, on the premise that Hunter was laying low and was the safer bet to remain hidden. So we could start by looking at the other "safe" players and see if we can narrow it down further based on Hunter's posts.
And yes, I do realize that puts me in the potential suspicious list. (Though to be honest, if I were Hunter's partner, I think the inexperienced newbie would be more expendable than him).

^All that assumes going for Hunter's partner is a good idea. I wouldn't want to reach a situation where we're screwed because the other scum team got stronger.

^And all that assumes that it is indeed a 3-1 scum situation that we're now facing.
I think it might be better to bring down the 3 team scum rather than eliminate one team. With both teams alive, it's more likely for them to step on each others toes and kill/be killed by each other.

avatar
Bookwyrm627: snip
Ah, I get you now. Possibly they even make up 2/3 of said 3-man cyborg team.

LOOSEN UP!
Ok, completely off topic. Am I the only one who never quite got this part of the movie? What exactly where the Gold 5 or Red 5's (luke) wingmen supposed to do. And why didn't anyone fly in behind them as backup or something?

avatar
dedoporno: Probably still moving or dealing with the follow-ups to that. That said, I also hope she'll be back to us sooner rather than later.

@adalia, what is your take on Wyrm's wagon? Same question to Krypsyn and Leonard.
It's, unfortunately, very bad timing.

Not a huge fan, not going to join in.

avatar
ZFR: Anyway, having re-read Hunter, I think the most likely candidate (if we assume he died of a failed conversion, and wasn't NKed) is:

vote: Leonard
lol, this is ironic after writing the above. Anyway I think it's interesting to note that Hunter had only one vote last day, RVS from Bookwyrm, only other player with that low a record is dedoporno. Close seconds being yourself and me.

avatar
Krypsyn: My reaction to trentonlf voting for Bookwyrm627: Okay, I can see it.
Mkay.

avatar
dedoporno: sick person
avatar
HypersomniacLive: other sick person
Take it easy you guys, hope you start feeling better soon.

Man, this is a real mess. We really shouldn't have no-lynched yesterday, it really puts us behind the 8-ball.

Oh I fully expected that, I just am a little surprised not just to see mchack on the list, but for you to place a vote on him with little or no provocation.

So it looks like we do have one more vote for mchack then yesterday. Anyone up for a lynch?

avatar
mchack: not so much for the lynch all we are reasonably sure that they're vanilla to leave less room for conversion thing
That wasn't quite my point (although I'll admit I did express similar things). My point was that anyone who openly claimed vanilla was then a prime target for conversion. trent claiming too made things both better and worse, it complicated the choice for scum but it also means we have two players we can't really trust and can't really afford to lynch.
So yes, I still believe we should have lynched flub when I first suggested it.

avatar
mchack: In that same vein you flipping town would cast a bad light on me (or wouldn't it it in your logic? would everyone go oh well we lynched adalia because mchack made a big fuss all the time and now he's flipped town. ah nevermind let's not look at mchack now. adalias flip doesn't reflect on others, he said so himself)
Either of us flipping town would reflect badly on the other, but wouldn't guarantee that the other is scum.
But flipping scum in this game doesn't tell you an awful lot. Scum can still genuinely scum hunt because there are two teams, they can suggest pro town things to get 'town points'. Just because Hunter flipped scum doesn't mean that you aren't because he voted you.

To suggest that everyone who happened to agree with the idea of someone else who flipped scum is tainted by association is ridiculous.

Leonard03: I'd vote you as well, if people are up for it.
Actually, wagons I'd vote for are: adaliabooks, mchack, HSL, and trentonlf if need be.
I still think going for Hunter's partner (assuming he was mafia originally and not a townie) is the "easiest" option, since that's where we have most information. I've written why I think you're the most likely, but I'm honestly open to suggestions. I'm thinking H's partner won't be adalia (he'd have gone for the conversion instead of Hunter), mchack (ditto), Bookwyrm (Hunter wouldn't have voted same as Bookwyrm in the dying moments of D1, preferring to distance himself from him). Other than you, the second most likely would be... Kryspyn (I can see Hunter being the one sent in a Kryspyn-Hunter team).

Or we could go for the convertee, flub and trent being the obvious 2 choices. Of the two, I'd rather go with flub because (a) there is a tiny chance he was an original scum; he would have been able to pull off this bluff apparently and (b) there is a small chance trent was hacker.
But I think going for the convertee is mcuh less rewarding; I'd go there only if the alternative is a no-lynch.

Now regarding the mchack/adalia situation, there I'm... completely lost. I'll be honest I'm not sure who is who there.

But

I'm sorry but I can't shake off a mental image whenever I see those two go at each other. Looking at mchack I keep seeing a Resistance game with a newbie, who is part Resistance, and is very vocal in trying to convice the others so, but the more he talks, the more he digs himself into a whole, and the more he accuses everyone else of being a spy, which only worsens his situation. Adalia on the other hand is the extreme opposite. Cool, composed; when I voted for him the very first time on D1 he was "good job; you're doing very well." And I've mentioned this before; here I get a mental image of a spy saying this to a newbie.

I don't know if I could draw paralells between Resistance and mafia here, but that's just what I get subconsciously. What I really wish for is to have someone who is more experienced, and played with those two before, help me analyse their behaviour.

But yeah, if all else fails I'm happy to go either mchack or adalia if it helps us get more information on what's going on here.
avatar
Krypsyn: You don't understand why trentonlf would vote for Bookwyrn627? (understanding =/= agreement)
Now that's a good question. There are certain possibilities I can see trentonlf voting for Bookwyrm, but I'm not sure how likely they are.

Btw, mchack is not voting for himself.
avatar
Leonard03: Btw, mchack is not voting for himself.
Yep, should have been adaliabooks. I can't tell you how many times I have made that mistake (typing the voted instead of the voting), bit caught it before/while posting. About time I missed one (I bet it was screwed up in the underlined mess yesterday too).
