It was an awesome opportunity. Many years after the worldwide economic crash following the events on Citadel Station and the fall of Trioptimum, humanity has rebuilt the economy and scientific breakthroughs have been made. To a degree that faster than light travel is now possible. Imagine! The stars are in reach! The only thing better than that mere fact was, that you all had been chosen to travel aboard the Von Braun - the first FTL ship ever. You were among the first to ever leave the solar system, together with the billionaire genius Korenchkin. The only drop of bitterness is, that the government doesn't trust you. Or any corporation. After Trioptimum almost destroyed the planet, all big corporation have been under close watch and this expedition is no different. You will be accompanied by a military ship, but you can be damn sure, that your little community of space travelers has also been infiltrated by secret military agents. As if you couldn't be trusted ...

But then something even more amazing happened. While in FTL flight, your ship picked up a broadcast from a planet orbiting Tau Ceti. ... An alien life form intelligent enough to use radio! You were not only among the first to leave the solar system, you would also be the first to make contact... or so you thought. Until you arrived. The broadcast turned out to be an automated signal from a jettisoned part of the old Citadel Station. It must have traveled here through some freak wormhole. So, human-made after all. ... But the alien life on the planet! Oh boy! So very alien and scary and fascinating. You would bring home material to research for decades! ...

But then everything went wrong. First, people started to change. Strange mutations appeared on some, others just went crazy and started helping those mutated patients escape the quarantine station. And then ... something ... took over the ship's computer systems and more people changed. Some even turned into terrifying combat cyborgs. And the voices! Voices in the communication systems, voices in your dreams. Someone called SHODAN promises to save you as does someone called THE MANY. Those two seem to be at war ... which is bad, because you are the battlefield. And the dying started...

Now there you are. The last survivors of the human race, stuck on a stranded ship 12 light-years from Earth and any help. You have barricaded yourself on the bridge. There is food in the mess hall and there are weapons in the emergency armory. ... But there are also traitors among you. Someone or several someones are murderers. This 'morning' - for the artificial day-night cycle of the ship still works - you found two bodies. zeogold and JMich have been murdered by something that entered their brain and destroyed it. Apparently the two 'gods' fighting for your ship and your souls have managed to turn some of you into willing slaves, who will not stop at anything until all resistance is wiped out. Now your only hope rests on those hidden military agents you resented so much. They probably have been indoctrinated well enough that it is impossible to turn them into traitors. ... But they CAN be killed, so as long as murderers are around, not even these Hackers are safe.

There is only one way out of this. From investigations when all of this started, you know that those turned into traitors have their brain altered. Those working with the mutants - mutants themselves - always had tiny, disgusting worms in their brain. Steering them, even if no external mutations were visible. And the cyborgs working for SHODAN had similarly altered brains, altered by nanites. The only problem: you can't take a look at someones brain without killing him. So, gruesome as it is, you will have to kill members of your group one by one until you have found all traitors and no one still works for those two 'gods'. And THEY will keep killing you ...

RULES POST BELOW.
Post edited October 17, 2017 by Lifthrasil
This is an open setup, detailed here:

Rules:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The unbreakable three:

1. Cryptoclaiming is forbidden.
(Ask Krypsyn what that is, but in short it is having everyone fullclaim in some sort of (preferably nearly unbreakable) code, which makes it all but impossible for the mafia to win.)

2. Betting among players is strictly forbidden.

3. Real Life issues and situations should and will always take priority over what happens in the game. If a player presents a real life issue as a reason on why they need a bit more time or are temporarily unavailable to partake normally in the game that reason should be accepted and respected by everyone else (including the mod). Everyone should always treat real life problems/situations in a gentlemanly manner and never try to make accusations or gain leverage in the game based on that. If these issues become too overwhelming the incapacitated player should inform their mod and ask for a replacement as soon as possible or if they are unable to do so the mod should take steps in finding a replacement for them. Everyone should be playing the game for fun and treat each other with the necessary respect. Therefore we shall always assume that every real life reason for inefficient participation in the game is 100% real and has to be taken as such. We shall also count on everyone playing the game to show proper respect and sportsmanship to their fellow players and the mod by never abusing this "free pass". If someone is caught taking advantage of everyone's good will they will be immediately allowed to find another place to play forum mafia.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. The moderator of this game is me, Lifthrasil. Should you need to contact me, you can reach me through the chat system of this forum. You can also write bolded questions to me in the game thread. The assistant moderator position is vacant for now.

5. All players have a vote, which they may place upon any player. An existing vote has to be withdrawn by unvoting before placing another vote. Once a player has more than 50% of the votes, that player will be lynched. No amount of unvoting can prevent a lynch from occurring once a majority is reached. If you don't unvote, only the previously active vote will count.

6. A player may also vote nolynch. A majority of nolynch votes will end the lynch phase without a lynch.

7. Please remember to bold your votes and unvotes like this: unvote Sparkly Fountain, vote Rusty Horseshoe.

8. When you are dead, you are dead - stop posting. A single "bah"-post is permitted and encouraged.

9. If you are not player or moderator please refrain from posting in this thread.

10. Don't edit your posts! This is very important! Editing a post is grounds for being modkilled. Remember that the forum software will consider any post within less than 10+ minutes from the previous one as an edit and will combine them. Accidental one-time vilations will result in some form of entertaining restriction but a repeated offense will not be tolerated. Do your best to avoid this or you will be modkilled and laughed at.

11. Do not discuss the game with anyone outside the thread, except for people specified in your role PM, and then only at such times as the PM specifies. It applies to RL as well. If you know some other player from this game, don't talk to them, do not spy on their roles, PM, quickchats, anything.

12. All players should post at least once every 36 hours. If you expect to be unable to post for longer than this, please notify the mod directly even if you already shared it in the game thread. If your most recent post shows "posted 2 days ago", you will be prodded both by PM and in the thread. Modkill or replacement is possible if the situation warrants.

13. If you can no longer participate in the game, let me know and I will try to find a replacement.

14. All players on the winning team win, even the dead ones, assuming any other win conditions have also been satisfied. Anyone who is modkilled loses, no matter what team he was on.

15. Important: The length of Days varies. The artificial day-night-cycle on the Von Braun is a bit unstable. I will aim for 'a week per Day', but if I get the feeling that the game slows down to a halt, I may announce the Deadline early. But you'll get a 48h warning before the Day ends.

16. Remember it’s just a game. Be polite and remain calm. Anyone not being polite is just trying to get you to make a mistake so they can lynch you. Don’t fall into the trap. Politely lynch them or night kill them for their rudeness.

shame there never is a PET-Scan nearby when you need one :(

ZFR: First
as if ;) well at least now I can repair my butchered link: MRI even better than pet scan for looking at brains (you'd see worms and shit there in an instance ;)
Well, that was embarassing. And I couldn't even add an "EDIT: ninjae'd by mchack".
Well, you looked around, but the bridge doesn't have an MRI. Maybe the sickbay has one, but that's far away through the war-zone that the ship is at the moment. Sure, you could try fighting your way there - but you'd probably die on the way. So these are your choices: either kill some members of your group. Or die in an attempt to avoid the killing. Grim times you live in. Grim times indeed!

The traditional RVS (Random Voting Stage) welcome for newbies ;)

Yeah, it's unfortunate we never have any useful scanning equipment that could tell us who was scum without requiring any messy killing people...

Haha, yeah.. don't say that out loud... it's got me killed on at least one occasion XD

You should be alright for an RVS vote though.
ZFR used random.org to vote! Kill him now!!!

Is it just me, or is anyone else getting the impression that Lift really wished he was a brain surgeon? Always with the cutting open of heads...

Or a serial killer...

Nah, it's just a hobby of me. I wouldn't want to make that a job. If I were a surgeon, people would complain when the 'patients' expire due to the surgery. It's much better to do that in private without surviving witnesses!

Damn. adalia is on to me. We should meet some time, adalia, some place secluded, to have a civilized conversation and a meal and wine.

there, there I found our first mutant! :D Praise me!
