Most decent psu companies will front the cost of items damaged as a direct cause of the psu. I suggest you contact them directly and politely tell them that you believe it has caused significant damage to your system, they will ask you to return to return the psu for testing.

In the meantime take some photos of the damage in case they request them. Sadly all power supplies can fail, though full 'meltdowns' are very rare with quality psu's as they have multiple safeguards as do motherboards.

Another thing to remember in the future is that with power, more doesn't necessarily mean better. There's a sweet spot with psu power. Higher wattage supplies waste more electricity and produce more heat when they're under-utilized.

His PSU is filled with white, melted looking stuff. I think you came to the right place.

Yeah, that sucks.

I also had an Antec power supply that died out on me. In my case though there was no explosion or melted residue, it just shorted out somewhere along its circuitry and blew out two internal fuses as it died (it may have been due to an overheated capacitor).

My motherboard all all the rest of my components were left unscathed and I was lucky enough that everything worked when I replaced it with a new PSU.

What they don't tell you is that you really have to pay attention to the ambient temperature when you're running at full load on these power-pumping things, because they tend to run rather hot even in idle mode.

In my case it blew out on a hot summer day.

You might want to turn on the AC when you're putting in hours of non-stop gaming on it next time or at least improve the airflow inside your PC case (it will also help the PSU in the long run).

...
So is this Antec supposed to be a quality brand? Normally a 750w power supply should be able to handle any single Nvidia card just fine, unless it's a cheap-ass PSU brand.

Good luck OP -- here's hoping your GPU and other components didn't take any damage.
From what I`ve read, Antec are meant to be a really good brand.
That is why I opted for one month or so ago when my last PSU started to sound like a moped & they`re quite cheap & very quiet.
They are a good brand if you ask me. The internal structure of the PSUs I had at least was electronically sound and robust.

Considering the amount of PSUs that Antec sells, perhaps we're just part of the odd bunch that have had terminal issues with them.

In any case, regardless of the brand, high-wattage PSUs + system under full load for a long time + hot ambient temperatures = unpleasant surprises.

My replacement PSU was also an Antec and it still works like a charm (it's been in use for 2 year so far).

I probably wouldn't recommend having intercourse with electronics. But I have no experience, so that's just a hunch.
Yep that's why I left the case side off for better airflow I'm going to need a new chassis I can pick up a cougar chassis for about 40 bucks the old chassis is for a Micro ATX and it's really skinny (about the width of an normal male adults hand!) I wish I could photograph it to show you!

I Have Had the Pc for about 3 and a half years now I dust it out REGULARLY the New chassis also supports Micro ATX but it's Physically Larger then the old one the old one was SO CRAMPED up I was amazed that the Geforce GTX 980 JUST FIT cables were everywhere because some Moron Pc shop that I got it off 3 and a half years ago pop Rivetted the back of the case where I could have tucked the cables into. >:(

Things got very warm the 3d card under load was 80 degrees Celcius I'm sure as Hell that isn't normal.

80 degrees celcius is 20 degrees celcius off BOILING POINT 100 Degrees Celcius is Waters boiling point!

We also Live in a Very Wooded area I look out my backyard and I see FOREST Literally.

This place is so old they have Wooden telergaph poles and my phone line is a shared connection With the ENTIRE STREET! it's a Little black box on the telegraph pole outside.

Australia really is a Shitty place to live where downloading a 12 gig game takes 3 days nonstop day and night It pisses me off at how slow it is.

My phone downloads Faster then my Normal connection my normal download speed is 450 kbps my upload speed is 39 kbps Yeah it's WORST in the world even third world countries are better then ours!

My street is full of Alcoholics and Drug addicts and everyone in my Neighbourhood is Heart attack material seriously an SUMO would look skinny next to some of them.

So angry still My Mobo is Cooked I don't know if the CPU is dead Hopefully the CPU is Okay they Cost assloads over here for a simple quad core you are looking at about 300 bucks they aren't cheap Ram is also Very expensive 200 bucks for 8 gigs, but Pc cases arent and Niether are Mobo's at AUD $39 for a PC case and AUD $89 for a Motherboard Consecutively.

A MSI Military Class 4 Mobo I'LL be getting! so no more worrying about Moisture in the atmosphere we live near a lake Lake Macquarie Yeah it's at the end of our street all the junkies hang around that area and Litter the area with needles, Empty grog bottles and used condoms it's Disgusting! We Live in the Trashiest part of town and we are stuck here!

To the contrary, I hear they specifically design a wide range of electronics for that very purpose.

Just don't use electronic devices designed for a completely different purpose, such as a toaster.

All the more reason to try and get your money back. Is the GPU all right at least? If the PSU fucked up the rest of your PC, then there ought to be some way to receive compensation for the damage.

Now I want to make waffles, but I'm lazy so I'll just make some instant miso soup instead.
