Haven't seen any thread about it, so I'm starting one myself, to share the good news.

Square Enix registred the domain finalfantasyviipc.com 4 days ago. For a short ammount of time you could enter the page and see this -> Google cache or screenshot.

What do you think? Did Square finally woke up? Are they really going to re-release Final Fantasy VII for PC? I think it sounds quite realistic, looking at points like cloud saves (now, THAT'S a joke), achievements and (prepare for casual gamers demands) "character boosters", to increase HP, MP or Gil.

At the bottom of the page it says "BUY NOW PC Digital Download £7.99 / €9.99". Sounds pretty reasonable and like a perfect game for gog's catalouge (hint, hint).
I do hope so... playing FF13 at the moment, and I don't like the fighting system they introduced.
Cloud saves, yeah.
But that seems like Steam features. The price sounds way too low, I mean, how much were they asking for the Last Remnant?

They're still milking the same game ? Unbelievable :/ ...

Although a remake rather then a re-release wouldn't be refused.
A PC exclusive re-release!? It doesn't make sense.

A DRM-free release on GOG would be fantastic. Original PC copies are getting scarce.

I wonder if they recruited one of Qhimm's FF7 hackers or if this is built off the original source.
Hopefully they also take the time to refresh the game. Come on Square, it's 2012, I'm sure you can afford to proofread the script.

Probably a combination of both: Aali stopped new releases of the OpenGL driver he/she had produced for the two games a few months ago, so it's quite possible that Square Enix took him/her on to deal with the technical aspects of the re-release. While it may be a coincidence, Aali had ultimately developed something that enabled Square Enix to exploit their most valuable IP. I don't think they'd let that opportunity pass.

It's not a PC-exclusive re-release though - PSN has had it for a while now, and it wouldn't surprise me to see a port of the PC version on Xbox LIVE in the near future.
As reboots are quite popular these days, I'd be really happy to see remake of this, as it's my favorite game ever. It would make sense, but it does for last zilion years :P
If you do it, just don't change battle system to this new BS please.
Hmm, sounds like this is going to be a Steam re-release I recall sometime back someone found FF7 in the steam registry of course that normally means jack and squat but with the site and the selling points being cloud saving, achievements and so on which are things Steam offers. It seems this is going to be the case.

Personally I'm not that excited, I loved FF7 back in the day but now it's one of those games I find hard to get excited over now, I still like playing it I just don't find it as great as I used too. Now if this was FF6, Dragon Quest 5 or 6, or even Chrono Trigger on the other hand then I would probably be marking out. Plus this game is readily available on the PS3 via PSN and I could still pop in my original disks and play them or boot up a PS emulator and play them via that so being able to play what was considered a so-so PC port on my PC with cloud saving and achievements doesn't get my motor running, but that is just me though. Still cool for those who actually want this though.

THIS
Chrono Cross is also awesome, I don't understand Square-Enix reasoning of dismissing game series. I know they even registered copyright for 3rd game and then...nothing. It just expired :(

Same reason why EA is ignoring any and all attempts to revive the Ultima series. They feel it's been too long and people won't care enough about a new game in said series to make it worth the investment. Plus it's not Final Fantasy or Kingdom hearts..

I don't know about the Dragon Quests, but FF6 and Chrono Trigger are also on PSN.
I guess getting games put out on GOG is a little more complicated than telling the developer "look at all this money you can get with very little investment". If it weren't, we'd have LucasArts by now.

Though, as far as reasons not to put your game out where anyone can buy it goes, doing a refresh is a pretty good one.

Well I think why they(Square-enix) are not re-releasing the PC version of FF7 here is because they may view that it would hurt the sales of the Steam version. Silly I know but when it comes to big companies you can't normally expect what we considered logic.

I'm quite sure Chrono Break would make them shitloads of money, if they would do it right. For Ultima...I'm gonna get lynched for this but I don't give a damn about it.
