Still got my boxed PC versions of 7 & 8. Not bad ports all things considered but the backgrounds and models really could do with a clean up.

Well, the background were made with TVs in mind (320x200). It would take an huge budget to clean them up (They would basically have to do them from scratch unless there are tools I'm not aware of). One of the unfortunate flaws of the pre-rendered backgrounds (love them though)

Although I wish that they could do it.

Sinizine: How does other people changing the way they play due to achievements affect you in any way whatsoever in a single player game?

SimonG: You try stuff you haven't done before. Like "ghosting" in the Thief games.

SimonG: Boy, you must really hate GOG, milking l those games again and again and again.
Again, for the third time, the dude was complaining that OTHER PEOPLE doing this stuff is what bothers him.

kalirion: Never understood all the hubbub about FFVII. I thought IV and VI were far better.

Foxhack: They were.

Sadly, this was the first console RPG for an entire generation of gamers. So they give the game a huge popularity base, despite not even being half the game the earlier six games were.
It's funny how the stature of SNES FFs have shot up in recent years. It's like the SNES FF have reached the sweet spot for age in terms of nostalgia. ;)

Stories and tech aside, I've always seen FFIV, FFVI, and FFVII as being very similar games.

6 compared to 7? Nah. No way.
Hope they make FFVI too. My favourite FF ever, probably forever.

IronStar: THIS
Chrono Cross is also awesome, I don't understand Square-Enix reasoning of dismissing game series. I know they even registered copyright for 3rd game and then...nothing. It just expired :(

DCT: Same reason why EA is ignoring any and all attempts to revive the Ultima series. They feel it's been too long and people won't care enough about a new game in said series to make it worth the investment. Plus it's not Final Fantasy or Kingdom hearts..
EA's first Ultima bombed, both sales-wise and in reviews, and they killed the series after that. Considering that they bought the developers and now use their name for their online store, I don't see an Ultima reboot on the cards, ever. At least not at the same time that EA are pushing Dragon Age as their premier fantasy-based RPG.

Not true, First EA's first Ultima was Ultima 7 part 2 and that did pretty well, also EA has been shopping for developers to do a Ultima revival for years a few years ago the IP was licensed to Obsidian to do something with but that deal fell through and a few years after words EA greenlight a DS remake of Ultima IV: Quest of the avatar but that was canceled during the early planning stages and those are just what came to light. So yeah EA wants to bring Ultima back hence why Bioware and Mythic were given the Ultima licence, Mythic is working on a new online Ultima game and they have been trying to get EA to agree to let other developers to remake and or make a new full fledged Ultima and/or one of the spin offs such as Worlds of Ultima and Ultima Underworld. The issue is EA is such a monolith of a company that it's nigh imposible alot of times it seems that as soon as one project fails then they get parinoid and start scrapping projects that are not viewed as being safe.Like I'm sure the failing of the Syndicate reboot and The old republic has EA playing it safe right now and so it's going to be hard for the people pushing for a Ultima revial to get anything done.

Also from what I keep hearing and reading from Ex employees and in the case of Paul Bartnett current ones that EA's brass aren't always on the same page so some will greenlight something and then someone else comes along and kills it or the people who backed the project get reassigned or leave and those who replace them end it because it wasn't their idea or something they backed.

Wasn't talking about GOG but Square-enix milking Final fantasy VII Franchise to the max.

I'm a long time supporter of squaresoft, and I'm one of those who believes that everything has gone downhill since the merge with enix.

I do love GOG for bringing back Good old games, but I'm fed up of Final Fantasy VII.
And btw it was never meant to be a pc game ... so no wonder the pc port was worse than the pox port.

Sorry if it bothered you in any way...
Also sorry

DCT: Now if this was FF6, Dragon Quest 5 or 6, or even Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VI is still my number one game of all time, and long overdue for some love from Square. I don't know how likely a complete remake of that game ever is, since it has been largely ignored in favor of IV and VII, but I'd buy a new system or PC just to be able to play a remake. Especially if they took some of the designs they had in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy as a starting point. I'd never expected Kefka to even be used again, much less be used well, but the did a perfect job on bringing him into the 3D realm and voicing him with that game, in my opinion at least.

Still, I'd probably buy a full on remake of VII if it were on here. If it were a Steam exclusive though... Probably a pass.

Yeah six is still one of my favorite RPGs of all time, everything about the game just felt right and honestly to me the series peaked at that game. A full remake would be nice to see but somehow I can't but feel Square-enix would butcher it, probley because of 8,10,10-2,13,13-2 .

No offense to people who liked those but I just couldn't stomach them and were(well 8,10,10-2 anyway) the main reasons why I picked up a Xbox 1 and a gaming PC back in the 2000's and got KOTOR, Morrowind and so on and haven't looked back.
