Cloud saves.... *titters*. I doubt this'll be much of a remake or anything, probably just the pc version with better compatibility & controls. In other words a quick update to an old game.

Much preferred Final Fantasy VIII even if the last few hours of story were rubbish. I preferred Squall too as the more moody & reluctant hero and it did suit his age. Be great to see that re-released on pc. (X was my fave though, most original & intriguing story.)

mqstout: Achievements and cloud saves (which, to me, are detriments even if they're not tied to a specific system).

Pheace: How exactly? Assuming you don't care for them, how exactly do they negatively affect you?
Cloud saves: Simple: if they're there, that means the product's tied to some sort of external system.
Achievements: they alter the way people play the game in odd ways, "just to get the achievements". Also, if they're published/public/verified, see above.
Cloud saves ... Aeris?

Terpor: I hope this re-release isn't the old PC port
Agreed. I thoroughly enjoyed FF7 when I played it back in 98/99), but it hasn't aged well. It definitely could do with an overhaul both on graphical quality and the awkward controls at certain points in the game.

kalirion: Never understood all the hubbub about FFVII. I thought IV and VI were far better.
FF4(J) and FF6 definitely were better. I think FF7 is remembered in part because at the time it was released it was very impressive visually, plus gaming was becoming much more mainstream with the PSX, so FF7 was the game that first introduced many people to RPGs.

How does other people changing the way they play due to achievements affect you in any way whatsoever in a single player game?

I think it's the fact that the services are there mean that the release will be tied to a distribution system like Steam, instead of being standalone.

I understand that, he said as much in his post. But the rest of his post implies that cloud saves and achievements regardless of their being tied to a service seem to bother him. He said so right in his first post, they are detriments even if they're not tied to DRM.

I understand achievements being annoying in multiplayer games, you just want to play normally and you have some nob trying to grenade himself 10 times in one match, but it makes no sense to complain about it in single player when you can ignore it.

I see Achievements as a way to brag that you beat the game. (Though for many, often this was not done legitimately.)

I see them as harmless unless the dev made one on purpose that could never ever be achieved by anyone...
Haven't heard about the Steam release, but rumors about a total remake, that used to be just a fans wet dreams, have some backing up by the devs in recent times, who are considering of bringing the whole series to newer audience. And its no secret, that FFVII universe has not been officially closed yet, but it is still open for a reason.

You try stuff you haven't done before. Like "ghosting" in the Thief games.

N0x0ss: They're still milking the same game ? Unbelievable :/ ...
Boy, you must really hate GOG, milking l those games again and again and again.

I know it's a minrity opinion, but I don't think the game aged well, and was very much tied to it's time period. Also, without the FMV craze of the period, I doubt we'd be still talking about it. as a game, it's combat was fine, but the rest was a complete mess once you left the dystopia town.
Its a great game. I played it a couple years ago on my 40'' TV and I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

Never forget that Could saves AND crossdresses.
I hope this does happen. If it sells well could we see some of the others in the series? 8 maybe. I dunno if any others were pc releases but you know what these companies are like if theres a market for it they might try to capitalise
