This is some great news, I hope someone here can leak some FFX HD news.

Snickersnack: Stories and tech aside, I've always seen FFIV, FFVI, and FFVII as being very similar games.

GoodGuyA: 6 compared to 7? Nah. No way.
Yes way.

* Same ATB battle system system
* same inengine cutscene digital puppetry
* same blank slate character development
* relics are like materia
* both have limit breaks (though triggering is different)
* both worlds are going to be destroyed by a madman with angel wings

etc,etc, etc...

The most unique thing I found about FF6 were those scenarios where you had to deploy 3 parties at the same time to defend an objective. I loved those but they were pretty rare. :(

aurizen: FFX HD
Unless there's actually some new content and/or it's the international release I'm not really interested. Same goes for the re release of 7 with cloud saves and achievements, if I wanted to play it I'll just go with the old disks I have.

RayRay13000: Oh I got her...I just wished I left her. She's really just there in the game and doesn't contribute that much of anything. She just sits there in the background with your other characters, hell she just wastes your time throughout the game.
If you take the time to level her up – the extra sidequests her presence unlocks helps here – she'll eventually have one of the strongest melee attacks of anyone in your party, regularly hitting the damage cap by the time she's level 35-40.
I hope GOG can make a deal to get Final Fantasy 7 released here as well, but from the looks of the leaked info it seems like it will be on just Steam for now...

DCT: Yeah six is still one of my favorite RPGs of all time, everything about the game just felt right and honestly to me the series peaked at that game. A full remake would be nice to see but somehow I can't but feel Square-enix would butcher it, probley because of 8,10,10-2,13,13-2 .

No offense to people who liked those but I just couldn't stomach them and were(well 8,10,10-2 anyway) the main reasons why I picked up a Xbox 1 and a gaming PC back in the 2000's and got KOTOR, Morrowind and so on and haven't looked back.
I actually like VIII quite a bit, although it certainly wasn't as good as IV, VI, or IX, just because of how different it was in terms of story and style. I've never quite understood all the hate it gets aside from the terrible magic system. I'm still holding out hope that somewhere we'll see a return to the glory days of FF in story and gameplay, with the smooth graphics of modern systems.

Though I doubt that will happen just as much as seeing KOTOR 3, FF Tactics 2, or even a new Suikoden now. At least Morrowind will last forever will Tamriel rebuilt and the thousands of other amazing mods.
Aw, come on, FFVIII had a unique magic/junctioning system that worked really well. Considering the enemies all leveled with you, you had to learn how to junction properly. If you were good enough at it, you broke the game, but that's why the system was implemented in the first place.

I love VI, enjoy IV (but less so, they always fail at their task at hand!), and am playing through VII right now on PC with enhancement mods. Something I don't quite get about SE is their remake pattern/style, why have they redone/re-released 1, 2, and 4 a boatload of times a piece, but only given 5 and 6 two releases (PS1 ports and GBA remakes)? It's disappointing the amount of stuff they could do improve them.

Also, I am interested in the possible VII PC release just so I could have a digital copy of my own. They might be milking the franchise dry, but it was the first FF I got introduced to after Mystic Quest so I'll keep on grabbing whatever they release for it.
I still have my original copy and the PSN version. (Via PS3) Unless they truly do a proper remake, I can't say that I'm all that interested.

The problem with it was that it rarely achieved a balanced gameplay scenario. People tended to either powergame and exploit the system, easily trouncing everything, or they just tried to play naturally, and ended up finding the game quite difficult (due to leveling up actually punishing the player). The junction system was a neat idea, but just wasn't implemented well in practice.

Aside from the junction system, I think that another reason the game got criticism was that it basically tried to turn teenage angst into an artform, which wore thin pretty quick.

The first time I played FF8 was without a strategy guide and I actually got stuck near the end of disc 3 I think because of my lack of understanding the junction system and the unbalanced level scaling you mentioned. Once I got a guide though, I didn't have too much of a problem beating it. As tedious as the junction and draw magic system can be, I actually didn't have to grind drawing magic too much once I found out about hidden draw points for the Ultima spell and such and how those points restock after awhile. Of course I never tried to beat the optional, more powerful boss near the end which probably would have required more grinding.
I wouldn't say FF8 was a bad game, just "odd" in all of its aspects compared to the other installments, especially the story. Still, I kinda liked that about it. Also, I had one of the most dramatic, closest wins i've ever had beating that game.

Square Enix Denies Final Fantasy VII Rerelease Rumors

Well, let's be honest we kinda expected this.
Funny thing is that they (almost) admit they forgot to make games. I find it hard to understand why is it so hard to re-use winning formula but, hey, it's their call.

I always love it when something get's leaked out and publishers or devs start acting like Officer Barbrady from South park. Seriously who are they fooling.
That link seems barely related. He was asked about a remake, not a rerelease, which are totally different things.
woooohooohoooo O.O -> http://finalfantasyviipc.com/en

edit: nevermind, haven't seen the new thread. But who cares, FFVII is coming back to PC -> woooohoooohooooo

I really liked ff7 a lot.
I still have the original cd, but I cannot even install it on a new pc.
Do you know how to do this?
When i get it running on my pc its great.
If not, I will most likely buy the remake.

I told gog that I wish they sell ff7+8 but looks like this wont happen.
