wolfsnake: An absolute classic. One of my favourite films of all time, definitely in the top 10. Not sure what to think about the upcoming prequel. Hope they do the orginal justice!
I'm a little concerned about that myself. Part of what makes The Thing great (imo) is the atmosphere, that sense of utter isolation and paranoia. There are no real fireworks to speak of until the end.

We know roughly what should happen in the prequel. For me, it'll be all about how they deliver those events. Will it be subtle, moody, and atmospheric? Or will the filmmakers concede to Hollywood tropes and give us the equivalent of Ripley On Ice? I hope for the former, but fear it'll be the latter.

I watched Trolljegeren (Troll Hunter) yesterday. I know I liked it, whether it's a "good" movie and what you would think about it is a completely different matter though.

Last movie I watched I enjoyed was the remake of True Grit - though the girl who starred as the main character was a bit nervous in her role.

My copy of the Lord of the Rings extended editions on Bluray arrived in the mail yesterday. I'm gonna watch half a movie every day, then again with the commentary, then the special features. Haven't re-watched the movies since I saw them in theatres. I'll be ready to wait for another 10 years after this, I think. :P

Dammit, where can I watch this legally, been chomping at the bit for it for quite awhile now? If nothing is legal I may just get it on the sly and pay for a ticket/DVD whenever it is available.

rasufelle: *sigh* Compared to some others here my tastes are pretty horrible.

The most recent movie I watched is a long-time favorite of mine, "Buffy The Vampire Slayer." I know a lot of people hate it for the atrocities wreaked on Joss Whedon's writing by Fox and the film's director, but I still find it a very fun movie -- enough that I've bought it three times on DVD and twice on VHS, losing copies to being worn out or stolen by "friends" after I introduced them to the film.
That movie came out before there was a series. And fwiw I liked it too.

Speaking of Buffy, I can't stand the TV show, but I have to say that the musical episode was excellent. A masterpiece.

The last movie I watched was ''True Grit'' (2010). It was a good flick but not my favorite from the Coen's (I know it's a remake). Tomorrow I'm watching ''The Tillman Story'' with my mom.

A great film would be Nosferatu. Both the 1922 silent and the 1979 talkie color remake are very well done and some of the best horror films period. If you're going to watch the 1922 version, I implore you to try and get hold of a Eureka Masters of Cinema or Kino Ultimate edition. Most versions are crappy public domain versions with missing footage, no tint applied and the picture has scratches, dirt, tearing and is incredibly jumpy. Those dvd versions are brilliant transfers and the image is very crisp and stable.

Last movie I saw however: Femalien. Yep I just finished watching a softcore flick which as far as softcore flicks go, this one's at the top :p

HomerSimpson: Yesterday's thread about favorite space movies got me to thinking about whether or not John Carpenter's 1981 version of The Thing starring Kurt Russell would qualify as a space movie. I suppose not since it was set in the Arctic, so I didn't put it on my list. But it is a fave of mine. And sure enough, serendipity stepped in and the movie was on cable last night. I watched it and remembered just why I like the movie so much.

If you're a fan of the sci-fi genre and haven't seen this movie, do so. If you've seen it before, but haven't seen it recently, refresh yourself with it. It's a worthy 90 minutes.

I was wondering why there wasn't a film thread! :)

Oh heck yes, that movie is intense and great. I thought it was rather freaky a few years ago when I first saw it; just imagine what audiences in the 1980s thought!

Hmmm, I'm a self-described action-junkie. The Lethal Weapon series, Die Hard series, Bad Boys and Bad Boys 2 (in my top 3 greatest action films of all time), Speed, Terminator series, etc. I also enjoy some action-horror films, like Planet Terror and AvP - Requiem (which is strange because I have a hard time watching torture in movies, so I don't plan on seeing SAW or more realistic war films).

I watched the 1922 edition with a friend a couple of years ago, just after finishing the book, and really loved it, especially the soundtrack, which was only a church organ. But I didn't really know about the history of the original printings so I didn't pay that much attention to scratches and dirt on the frames, but I have to say it is a very enjoyable film for anyone interested in classic films or Dracula based films in general.

Throw Shadow of the Vampire in there as well. A movie about movies (my fave genre), it stars John Malkovich as the director Murnau and Willem Dafoe as Max Schreck. Fantastic Stuff ™.

Last movie I watched was Pontypool and it was brilliant. I recommend it wholeheartedly
